SB: $100 (100 bb)
BB: $109.48 (109.5 bb)
UTG: $35 (35 bb)
MP: $117.06 (117.1 bb)
Hero (CO): $179.07 (179.1 bb)
BTN: $225.60 (225.6 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 8♠: A♣: 9♣: T♠:
2 folds, Hero raises to $3.50, BTN raises to $12, 2 folds, Hero calls $8.50

Flop: ($25.50) 8♣: K♦: A♦: (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $18.17, Hero calls $18.17

Turn: ($61.84) 6♣: (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $44.13, Hero calls $44.13

River: ($150.10) 7♣: (2 players)
Hero bets $104.77 and is all-in, BTN calls $104.77

BU seems to be a reg, but tiny sample today of ~50 hands max. I'm not sure I have any other options on the flop. Ott I also think x/r doesn't make sense and that we probably can't fold.

That leaves the river.
1. What do we do on a blank? Sigh, check, fold unless we have a lot of history with villain? #
2. Do you lead a 7♥: or 7♠: in the same way that we lead our flush?
3. What about 7♦:? Check/decide or blockbet 1/3pot?
4. Suppose river is 2♣: where only a bd flush is possible - would you prefer a check in that instance?
5. Let's say villain has top set (which he had). Should he call this river?

Thanks

Wp.

1. I think on a blank without reads c/f is fine. AK would be even harder fold when you would block both top sets and no diamonds/QJ, but on average ppl tend to have more AA/KK in their 3b 3barrell range unless they're very aggressive.

2. Certainly.

3. I really hate such blockbets. I think it's hard to balance and hard to get called by worse.

4. Interesting. Two obvious reasons to do this would be he could still shove aces, kings and he could've a missed draw. Still, shoving a set on flush board gets always thinner as you could've low flush and what else are you calling with that is worse than a set? I guess Im still shoving mostly, trapping sometimes but not very often?

5. I'd say he should, unless he blocks flop draws heavily he could consider folding. Only backdoor draws completed here.

Yes to all, blockbet of 1/5 on 7♦: seems fine to me. 1/3 pot is quite big and I can see him folding.
Coming from holdem I hate block bets too and I used to punish them always but in omaha there seems to be alot of spots that they are quite handy. Is he really 2 barrel and then raise you without a flush? Is he really folding to such a small bet of 20% pot with value hands?

@Seagal
Can you explain the purpose of balancing a block bet in this exact spot? The guy 2 barreled us. So he either has strong draws with a fd or 2 pair+. Would he really 2 barrel a wrap with a single nut fd blocker? Wouldnt he take a free card on the flop or turn?
I dont think we get bluff exploited when we bet 20% and get value from 2pair+ that will check back otherwise. We have to ask ourselves so many questions to make a blockbet work but there is value in them. What do you think?

If we make really small bet on the river, how often we make it as a bluff? And if we make it as a bluff, do we really have FE versus 2pairs+? We have 2/3 pots behind, so I would just shove or check. If we bet $30, do we ever have a flush in our range when we could just shove for 2/3 pots? What does that look like? Do we ever have a flush with that sizing? And if not, are we bet-folding? And with what hands are we doing that with? Sizing is so suspicious that it's easy to exploit if we never have a flush or a bluff there.

This is a really good question. So here we're blocking a lot more of villain's semibluffing barreling range I would say (since we block flop flush and straight draws). So likelihood of his having value that will check back this river goes up, I think. So I'd like to be leading in general. Problem is that we need him to hero off top and second set most of the time otherwise we'll only get called by his b/d flushes.

Kyyberi, can you give us your opinion?

I mean blockbets in general. How often do you blockbet nuts here? How often you bet-call other hands and what are they? Do you blockbet small missed draws how often?
