CO ($93.6BB) 94bb
BTN Hero ($104BB) 104bb

Pre-Flop: (1.4BB, 6 players) Hero is BTN A♦: K♥:

3 folds, Hero raises to 2.4BB, 1 fold, BB raises to 9.2BB, Hero raises to 25BB, BB goes all-in 101BB, Hero?

Hello. So at nl2 I would be calling here without thinking. But since Im new at nl5 I dont know the tendencies of the players. Can I call here? I expect him to go all in preflop with AK, KK, AA. So can I call? Idk maybe he would be shoving QQ, JJ, TT as well.. like I said Im new at nl5 so dont know much about the tendencies of players. He looked like a reg, against a fish I would be calling for sure.

Sure! Dynamics between BTN and BB is such that AKo is a no brainer call 5bet, if you 4bet.

If you think that Villain is depolarized and 3bet/folds AQ, AJ, AT, then you shoul more often call a 3bet and play some poker.

If you think Villain is polarized, then stack off is great. Sometimes A4s might 5bet shove (5NL less often, but possible).

In a vacuum, just mix it up 50% call a 3bet, 50% 4bet/call a 5bet. And take down notes for his hands that he 3bets with. ;)

Fairly standard, I like it better with AKs though. I agree with Iscre4m that you can utilize position in this spot sometimes (more often than not with AKo). Calling here (calling his 3b) keeps some hands in that will likely fold to a shove and you can create some balance by having some super strong hands in your 3b calling range pre.

This is BTN vs BB where you should expect wider ranges. I would stack off here and not worry about it too much.

Just call and see what happens. You cannot 4b/fold AK here.

I agree. BB can 3-bet/5-bet quite wide for value here against a perceived BTN steal. He has no reason to respect your initial raise and he will know that means he can 3-bet a lot of hands against you, meaning that your 4-bet range can be a lot wider than usual. Of course, if you knew he was a super nit and would only play AK, KK+ this way, then that’s a clear fold, but getting it in against a regular or unknown player is fine.

Well, looks like I'm the only one, but in my experience, calling a 5bet with AKo is -EV in 5NLzoom. I don't know if this is zoom. If this is a regular table, I'm fine with getting it in, but in Zoom you are up against a superstrong range and you will almost never be ahead (no horrible behind either, few %'s less than flipping). The majority will only do this with AA's and KK 's, and some QQ, JJ, TT, AK. Rarely AQs.

BTW, you say you would call this without thinking in 2NL.. I think in 2NL you are looking at an even stronger range that 5bets... The higher the stakes, the easier this becomes a call.

In both 2NL and 5NL, I'm folding. (and would not 4bet that much, more like 20BB, or not even 4bet )

This is still a spot where we should expect decent amount of 3bets and we should be 4betting also quite often.

(no horrible behind either, few %'s less than flipping)

You do know that when we have already invested 25bb we have to win this less than 40% of the time to make profit, right?

Its regular table. I also find myself being behind quite often in this scenario thats why I think calling his 3bet and playing the hand in position isnt that bad, however going all in isnt bad either. So the question is which play is more +EV?

Difficult to say. Depends on villains ranges and your postflop skills. But I would still say that from these positions you should expect to see a fairly wide 3bet range from villain and 4betting this hand is totally standard. After you face a 5bet shove you will usually win often enough so folding is out of question.

Now, if you are not calling the All in, why do you 4B then? I do not like to fold such a hand...

I was hoping you'd say that.. could you give me the math for this?

Simple pot odds calculation. Bet / (pot+bet). So basically how much you have to call divided by the pot size with villains bet + how much you have to call.

76 / ( 126 + 76 ) = 0.376
