888 Poker - $0.05 NL - Holdem - 4 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BB: 67.2 BB (VPIP: 42.03, PFR: 24.64, 3Bet Preflop: 6.67, Hands: 69)
CO: 164.8 BB (VPIP: 33.68, PFR: 9.62, 3Bet Preflop: 1.59, Hands: 292)
BTN: 71 BB (VPIP: 61.54, PFR: 30.77, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 26)
Hero (SB): 275.2 BB

Hero posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has A♥ K♦

fold, BTN calls 1 BB, Hero raises to 3 BB, BB calls 2 BB, BTN calls 2 BB

Flop: (9 BB, 3 players) 4♣ 3♦ 4♥
Hero bets 4 BB, BB calls 4 BB, fold

Turn: (17 BB, 2 players) T♥
Hero bets 8 BB, BB calls 8 BB

River: (33 BB, 2 players) 3♥
Hero bets 20 BB, BB calls 20 BB

Raise pre flop is standard, maybe could have been larger because of the BTN limper.
I cbet for value here as I have two overcards and expect to be ahead most of the time here. Though admittedly I should probably be betting larger. Maybe 6BB or 7BB.
I barrel the turn hoping to rep either an overpair, FD or a hit on the T (TT, QT, KT or AT). Don't really know what to say about bet sizing here. If I am betting for value with one of these hands then seems okay?
I barrel again OTR trying to rep a strong made hand from the turn, e.g. completed flush, an overpair etc.

Was I being overaggressive here or could this have worked a lot of the time?

Hi DannyHorsley,
Do you ever use the delayed CBet tactic?
You're OOP, so it works reasonably often.

I think villainsexpect you to CBet most of your range, so they float it hoping to catch something OTT or river.

If you check the flop, and they check behind, you can bet out OTT especially if it is a scare card.
If on the other hand they bet the flop you can either get out of there, or check/raise.
The second option is not recommended necessarily -- but it is an option.
If you do use the check/raise option, they may become wary when you check, and check behind more often.
This gives you free cards on your flush draws more often.

I'm curious to hear what others think about this hand...

All the best,
VS

Hi Vorpal, this is something that la55i mentioned recently. I rarely use the delayed cbet, but rather if I am OOP, I check the flop and then it checks back, I'll take a stab OTT if there is a scare card or a card that fits my range well, like you say.

Are delayed cbets best used OOP? And when we do use a delayed cbet, I take it that we often do this as a bluff or at least when we miss the flop? I am keen to add this to my arsenal but wanted to gain some info on it first.

its good to be balancing AhKh like that, but the double paired board does not favour that play.

also the BB has more 3x and 4x in his range so you have to be carefull.

i would prefer B,B,X and B,B,B on the 8h. you have to use a bigger sizing (25, jam).

I would not fire a 3rd barrel here. Delayed c-betting sounds like a decent option here.

The guy is a short stack so isn't an optimal candidate for a triple b bluff.
I think you could x this back on the flop.
When thinking of bluffs think does my hand have showdown value. If it does then try to get to showdown rather then bluff.
Ak here beats lots of FDs and SDs that could of called the flop and turn, so no need to turn the hand into a bluff.

I agree here that we should be checking with showdown value, but villain here is a loose/passive player (albeit over a small sample) and is defending his BB. His range is very wide and I think he has a lot of 4x, 3x Tx hands in his range, specifically SC's and A3, A4 types of hands. He may also have some overpairs OTF such as 55,66,77,88,99. Though we may argue that he is raising such hands.

I therefore felt it was a good spot to bluff. There was a some solid hands in my range from BTN steal such as full houses, flushes, overpairs etc.

Spoiler

Hero shows A♥ K♦ (Two Pair, Fours and Threes)
(Pre 74%, Flop 79%, Turn 7%)
BB shows T♦ A♠ (Two Pair, Tens and Fours)
(Pre 26%, Flop 21%, Turn 93%)
BB wins 68.8 BB
