Thanks for your reply. Honestly, on this low limits I am not really interested in playing 100'000 hands just to have the limit "beat". It is a long journey but if my bankroll reaches 150$ I will move up to NL5 (or I just go broke by playing NL2 until then :-D). We'll see. I will think about the coaching nontheless because I know that I have (of course) several weaknesses in my play.
Yea, and I absolutely agree that you shouldn't play 100k hands just to know if you beat the limit ![]()
Who knows, maybe you would be good enough at NL5 even though your winrate isn't awesome in a small sample @ NL2. So definitely when you have big enough bankroll take a shot at the higher limit. Otherwise you might be wasting your potential by playing the smaller limits.
when you feel destroyed after 5k hands of losing and on top of the world after another 5k hands of winning, you should try to get a better grasp of variance.
thinking about moving up now is premature. you should work on your game, get and implement a better chart (3% 3-bet!) and start working on a postflop gameplan. it should still be very possible to beat those stakes w/ a 10bb+ WR and it would not hurt to get that skill playing 2NL.
Thank you Pokamon for your valuable feedback. To make it sure right away I am absolutely not thinking about moving up to NL5 at this point. I have a bankroll of less than 20$ right now and I wrote above that I will move up when I reach 150$. Having a WR of 1BB/100 you can calculate yourself how many years I will play NL2 before I hit that goal ;-).
The main focus of my post was to highlight exactly what you are mentioning. Variance is hard to describe but maybe it helps others to understand it better which are going through the same struggle as I do. Hopefully it helps. Maybe it does not.
Do you have any valuable information about better charts regarding 3-bet? I know that I have to improve my 3-betting. This is what I worked on the most during the last week. Within the last 2k hands I have a value of 5.2. Can you give a range for a good 3-bet value from your point of view? That would be really helpful.
To sum it up: Hard work required but the ship is still sailing.
Good to know, Bernasconi!
There is a site, somewhere, where you put you winrate, the number of hands and it shows you the risk of ruin and how probable it would be, for you, to run way higher or way lower than the expected winrate.
It also shows you the minimum bankroll required to have less than 5% chance of going broke (literally).

Is that really necessary for NL2 FR, Pokamon? Against the regs of this limit, 3-betted pots are very straigthforward and for beginners (like myself), I'd advice against going too fancy in those spots or increasing your range too much.
For beginners, increasing the amount of 3-betted pots it's a way of losing more money rather than learn how to play small pots first, IMHO.
We'd probably better increasing our CO and BU open and calling range, improving our board reading skills and working on our postflop plans.
Maybe, an improved 3 bet range (other than the default 3-5%) is something for NL5+ or for the specific situation of reastealing in NL2.

there is no default 3-bet range. it depends on the initial raisers range. usually its around 1/3.
i would disagree w pguest that it would be burning money to 3bet much. it is true, that the pots are big, but also the ranges are small and easy to handle. of course it is important to work w them and see how those ranges hit certain boards.
I would also start 3betting a bit more, I think it should be profitable. You don't have to go super wide. And I would do it with a linear range. Especially on the blinds and if you are in position against the raiser. They make a lot of mistakes in 3bet pots and IP with value heavy range it should be just fine.

Agreed. Makes sense.
