Hi Guys

So I managed to get in to a freeroll freezeout live tournament (I know why would a casino do that?) which paid out 4tkts to a $1m gtd tournament with a cap of 100 players. We started off with a 20k stack & 15min blinds. In the beginning I lost a couple of hands with AJ/AQ but then managed to stay around the 15 to 20bb mark. As the tournament progressed we were down to 33 players and the average stack was only 10bbs (60k) and I was down to 6bbs (~37k).

Action got folded to me in the sb (and I had a tight image so was only playing 2 hands a level at best) and decided to shove on the bb stack (he had ~9bbs) with KQ in order to pick up the antes and bb to which I thought he'll fold as he wasn't playing often. Instead he insta-calls! with A6o! Needless to say he hit the 6 on the flop, I hit the Q on the turn only for him to suck out as he hit another 6 on the river :f_confused:

What did I do wrong? Anyone can help?

I have moved your hand to our hand discussion board, because it's fits better there.
I don't think you did something wrong here with shoving KQ in the SB and his call with A6o is standard as well. It's to bad it didn't worked out this time.

I think what confused me the most was that he snap called which I completely didn't expect him to do with that hand.

If he's familiar with the shoving ranges of the SB a call with A6o would be a no brainer in the BB.

Hi everyone.

I will ask u first how far/close u where to bubble. If u where just few spots away then I would ask u how many players had lower chip stack then u?

A lot of players forget that on satelite u only need chip and chair. It is not about winning it but get that ticket.

If u where stil far away from bubble then this play is just standard and he should snap call u with any Ax since ur open shove should be big as well. After all it is BVB.

There were around 30 to 32 players left after I went out with the first 4 llaces getting a ticket and on my table there were 3 shorter stacks than me.

Given that they didnt shove, I thought it would have been an ideal spot for a steal especially since he was playing tight. Perhaps I should have waited for a better hand than KQo but as the antes were high by the time I would have gotten to the next bb I would have been down to 4bbs which didnt make much sense at that stage.

He's still way to far from the bubble to think about ICM I think.

30 players left and 4 places paid is just standard situation to open shove with KQo and snap call with A6o. If u are folding KQo here, u are missing a lot of value and tickets on long run. Good play.
