[Closed] Thoughts of a Canadian SNG Stud

OK I'm gonna make a conscious effort to update this thing regularly.

Looks like the best upswing of my life has ended - I mean I'm not on a downswing, just kinda breaking even for a little bit....got sucked out on a lot today. AA in particular was definitely -EV tonight.

Its not all bad - I'm up $252 in the month of May so far running at a pretty 26% ROI. My lifetime ROI in SNGs has climbed to 11% - getting closer to the 15% goal I set at the beginning of the blog.

I think it's time to set some new goals, as the ones I set at the beginning of the blog are getting kinda old. Some of them are still relevant though.

Here is my new set of goals:
-Build my average ROI to 15%
-Build my bankroll up to $1000
-Achieve Gold membership at PS
-Earn Silver Ironman for the month of May
-Don't bluff LuborC out of position

Once my bankroll reaches $1200, I'll be moving up to the $12 turbos. As long as I don't run horribad, I should be able to move up by the middle of June at the latest.

Current BR - $783.70

Ugly day yesterday, just got sucked out on left and right. I decided to play 3 tourneys last night too, all of them were kinda out of my bankroll....but whatever, I figured I needed a break and maybe I could run good in at least one of them.

Well, no dice. I won a satellite to and played the MiniFTOPS event #1 - got sucked out on, AQs vs. A4o, Midnight Madness - sucked out on again, QQ vs. AQo, and then a random $8.80 tourney with 2000 starting chips, where I was sucked out again with AJs vs. A7o. No more tourneys for a while I think....maybe I'll satty into another MiniFTOPS event or get staked or something, but thats it. Ran my bankroll down to about $660 at one point last night. Mind you, $22 of that was moved to stars as jlhmackenzie and I made a little swap so he could play the MiniFTOPS event. Decided to play one last short session before sleepy time. Luckily, I was able to make up another $60 before I went to bed.

Just finished up another short session too, ran real good in that one too. So I'm back up to $767.90 on FT.

I might start grinding the $3.40 10 man turbos on stars too, I already had like $40 on there before I got the extra $22. Played a set of 4 of those turbos last night too after my run-bad in the tourneys, and won 2 out of the 4.

Congrats to EagleStar88 on his cash in the MiniFTOPS event, looks like he was playing well and running pretty good for the most part (up to the end!) in it.

Only in Canada can you hit a moose and have it sound normal. Surprisingly this happens way more often than anyone could amagine.

When my friend was playing in a hockey tournament in BC he was driving in a bus and they hit a 2k pound moose. The front of the bus was mashed and there was pieces of moose all over the place.

BTW, Manitoba? Ouch. Go BC!

Yeah hitting that moose was definitely the scariest moment of my life...no question haha. The people at the hotel we stayed at told us that was the first moose they've seen in Yorkton in like 12 years or something like that. Pretty insane.

Oh and BC sucks! Haha kidding, but I have heard that chant many, many times at Canad Inns Stadium and I never get tired of it.

Poker's going pretty good right now, in the SNGs anyway. Still cant seem to run good in MTTs yet though. I played the Early Doubles today, got coolered in the first one and sucked out on in the second. In the first, I got a freeplay in the BB with 84o, flop comes 10-4-4. I got all my chips in the middle with some other guy and he showed A-4 ftw. I just can't get away from trip 4's in a $5 tourney.....not a chance. Some fish would've played K-10 and A-10 the same way. In the other I lost AK vs. KQ all in preflop...Q high flop and I didnt catch my ace. sigh....

I did play a $2.50 satty to MiniFTOPs Event $15...the $20+2 turbo one. Since I normally play the turbos sngs, and I think my push/fold game is pretty good, this should be a good one for me. I did manage to squeak through and get my spot (40 entered, top 4 get spots). Hopefully the tourney goes well and I can cash....or maybe I'll luckbox it and take home a big score.

Don't think I'll play much tomorrow, I work an 8 hour shift and going straight from that to spend the rest of Mothers Day with mom and grandma. But after that I dont work till Saturday again so I have the whole week to grind.

Hey eric nice blog and very nice progress! Only a few more dollars to the 1k mark! Wish you good luck with the rest of ur poker journey I'll hit u up on skype sometime this week about sweat sessions.

I DID IT!!!!! Finally hit the $1K milestone, after dealing with some variance at the $6.50s, I decided to stop playing overrolled for them and move up to the $11 turbos. The players there are still retarded (aside from some decent regs I've come across).

But anyways, at the moment my bankroll is over $1K. I'm gonna continue to play the $11s for a while. I should also be moving up to gold any day now (I guess the next time PS updates!) so I'll get the opportunity to sift through all the Gold material...definitely looking forward to that.

I did a sweat session tonite with poker_QT....was fun! She got to see me cross the $1K mark for the first time - unfortunately my mic wasn't working and we had to work thru chat. Looking forward to the next one.

Oh yeah and I luckboxed my way to a 4th place finish in a 482 man turbo knockout MTT...busted out when I lost a a flip AJ<55. I thought I played really well though and I'm hoping to play a few more MTTS for fun.

I'm really tired and need some sleep...nite all.

I played my first live game today...played some 1/2 no limit FR cash at the Club Regent Casino in Winnipeg today. Live players suck! haha. I made about $150 in less than an hour. Will probably be back again, it was a lot of fun! I found it really easy to sit down and focus on every player at the table, taking mental notes on everything I saw - betting patterns, physical tells (brand new thing for me!). The fish were really friendly too, had fun talking to the players there. Sucks I could only stay for an hour, I had to rush off to a golf game across the city.

Had a blast golfing too, even though I confirmed that I truly suck at the game of golf. Some laughs and a few brewskis made for a good time though. Guaranteed I am going to be super sore tomorrow after playing 18 holes tonite.

As for online....my upswing on the $11s ended, it peaked at about $1330ish I think before I hit a nasty downswing, with the bankroll hitting a low of about $1050. Slowly recovering from it now, and rakeback tomorrow should help some too.

I should probably play some on stars more - I do have a deposit bonus to clear there.
