partypoker - $0.10 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 155.7 BB (VPIP: 26.21, PFR: 19.42, 3Bet Preflop: 6.45, Hands: 105)
SB: 104.3 BB (VPIP: 37.14, PFR: 34.29, 3Bet Preflop: 15.38, Hands: 37)
Hero (BB): 127.3 BB
UTG: 109.6 BB (VPIP: 20.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 5)
MP: 100.5 BB (VPIP: 16.67, PFR: 16.67, 3Bet Preflop: 8.70, Hands: 54)
CO: 79 BB (VPIP: 21.96, PFR: 12.84, 3Bet Preflop: 1.90, Hands: 307)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 5♣ 4♣

fold, fold, fold, BTN raises to 3 BB, fold, Hero raises to 9.5 BB, BTN calls 6.5 BB

Defending blind with a 3-bet. I prefer 3-betting to calling as I will fold most flops to a cbet with 54s.

Flop: (19.5 BB, 2 players) 2♣ K♣ A♥
Hero bets 13.9 BB, BTN calls 13.9 BB

Betting here to fold out hands that missed and get value from bluff catchers and Ax in case we hit. Wondering if I ever call a shove here? My equity against Ax and 22 is about 40%...

Turn: (47.3 BB, 2 players) 7♣
Hero bets 33.7 BB, BTN calls 33.7 BB

Betting to get value from a big ace. Not sure about the bet size.

River: (114.7 BB, 2 players) 8♠
Hero bets 70.2 BB and is all-in, BTN calls 70.2 BB

Shoving to make it seem like a bluff on a scary board. I don't think checking is correct here is most hands just check behind?

Spoiler

Hero shows 5♣ 4♣ (Flush, King High)
(Pre 40%, Flop 41%, Turn 84%)
BTN shows A♦ Q♣ (One Pair, Aces)
(Pre 60%, Flop 59%, Turn 16%)
Hero wins 245.1 BB

Calling pre is totally fine too, it's a mixed strategy, and anything that makes 54s hard to play in SRP makes it hard to play in 3bet pot so I don't really see the argument lol.
Anyway nh.

I think calling pre is better than fine, and for me it is the only good option here imo. We are on BB so we have to call just 2bb more. We are also slightly deep. Our speculative hand benefits from higher stack to pot ratio. Imo 3betting is bad.

Postflop is fine.

In a 3-bet pot we are playing against a tighter defense range so post-flop decisions are easier. A lot of flops will polarize villain's range depending on what he does - for instance calling with a mid pair is almost never correct. In NL5 and NL10 I find most reg-ish villains will open the BTN about 40-60%, and playing 54s against that range OOP is very draining for me, and usually does not bring a lot of profit or results in unnecessary mistakes. When the villain only defends about 10-15% of the hands he opens I make my life after the flop a lot easier.

I don't agree at all, first we don't seek the easier thing to do at poker, or we'd always fold or shove, that's easier right, and second, I don't find it easier to play a 3bet pot versus a somewhat tight range.
I don't see what your problem with 45s is, moreover in SRP versus a huge range you can so outplay them even OOP come on. Anyway by just calling you don't need to win a lot of the time it's totally ok to give up on many spots you don't have to feel exploited at all.

I do quite strongly disagree with that also.
I disagree with that it would be easier in a 3bet pot. I disagree that calling a mid pocket pair on BB would be bad (I would actually say that 3betting is bad). And the average regular definitely steals too little, not even close to 60% range. The population actually opens less than 40% on BTN.

54s should be 3b vs btn with some frequencies. Maybe not this deep. Flop i would bet 1/2. Turn and River are pretty straightforward, nothing to mess up there. Never x otr imo :).
