hey guys,

its been a while for me but i felt like sharing my poker journey that happened this month. obviously i have played before and the fact im without a job for now i thought it might be time to play some poker again. originally my plan was to go for $1k in august. i decided to start with around $300. at first i was trying to climb playing the 45man mtsngs on stars and add mtts. in the past i was always doing well but this time everything went so wrong. i was streaming as well for the most time. i think that and run bad kept me away from reaching the results i was hoping for when i started. i dropped to around $100 after like a week. motivation was really down and i wasnt sure what to do. next 3 days i managed to break even at least. i took a day off firguring out what to do and decided to try plo. ive played that in the past but my weak mindset was always holding me back at some point.

i took like $40 of the remaining money and gave it a shot. on august 12th it started and i played like 200 hands on plo2 just to see if i felt like doing it. i wasnt really motivated and i kind of wasted a lot of time although most of it i guess i was watching plo content. next day was better. i put around 1k hands of volume at plo5 and was up 5 buy ins at the end. money almost doubled . next day played around 1,6k hands and a nice heater.

Spoiler

next two days i put 5k hands of volume in and i was literally running like shit. i had reached $250 bankroll at some pointbut the run bad was always present. at the end of august 17th i was officially a losing player. i was kind of crushed honestly as i was almost running $250 under ev which basically were all my possible winnings. look here.

Spoiler

i was thrown back all the way to all the times i felt so crushed when trying cashgame. stuff like "i dont understand why im always so unlucky at cash game" went through my mind all the time. i was in the state again where i was convinced i shouldnt be a cashgame player. anyway, i kept grinding with some success i guess. i was slowly climbing.

Spoiler

with some $ from a chest here and there i managed to get to around $250. i decided to take a shot at plo25 as the games were super soft at the point. i played a huge session and finally the rungood started for me. in one session i managed to not only chase all the ev i was missing but even end up over ev after all the hands played. was a great feeling.

Spoiler

on august 21st i actually reached the $1k mark. i actually managed to turn $40 into $1k within 9 days, what a great feeling .

Spoiler

of course i kept playing. i did a lot of table selection and aimed for almost anything that looked really juicy. i always did content on the side, disussing hands and watching videos. at some point i kind of realised my style was really different to most regs. im playing 24/13 with 4% 3bet. at the start i was playing like 30/18 but quickly learned to tighten up on the micro stacks due to the big rake distribution. i would say a week ago i was mostly playing 21/11 with 4% 3bet while recently (plo50+) im more at 25/15 6%3bet.

august final result.

Spoiler

im obviously super happy. my mindset is still super weak. just last weekend i kind of threw away at least $700 after i went on a $500 downswing. made really stupid decisions. im surprised my mental state allowed to bounce back from it after all. ill take time for the last two days and find material on how to build a better mindset as i feel this is needed on higher limits where swings obviously hurt a lot more. i could post a lot of hands of really big whales that sucked out on me in the craziest ways imaginable. i even reached a point where i punshed myself in the head. silly i know but its hard to accept losing to someone playing 98/53 44%bet (not even joking he played like that for around 144 hands and was only down 2 buy ins in the end. he was even up 7 buy ins at some point which was super hard to accept). i kind of feel blessed that variance was on my side especially towards the end. ill try my best and to continue like that in september :)

most of my knowledge comes from watching phil galfond videos and jnandez videos. especially from jnandez i learnt a lot especially regarding preflop play and overall strategy in plo. should definately check out jnandez youtube channel.

i barely streamed this month because ive been really lazy and also scared because im running a decent amout above ev. ill take poker very serious though during the next two months, bought a second monitor for streaming as well. ill try to stream 6 days a week starting next month. wanna see if poker can still become a legit source of income and if ive matured enough as skill wasnt the problem whenever i tried to be serious about it. we will see though.

In '96 I got a second monitor at work, and about a week later I bought one for home, too.
I came close to buying a third this week just for streaming.

My ideal for streaming would be to have poker tables on one monitor -- I can do up to 4 tables while streaming -- OBS Studio and support software on the second one, and chatty and more support software on the third.

Because of the computer problems I've been having, I run Open Hardware Monitor to keep track of CPU/GPU load, MB and CPU temperatures and certain voltages. I've tried a few other hardware monitors, but I keep coming back to this one.

Cheers,
VS

I know you already admit that your mindset is weak.

But just look at your stats, you have ~20bb/100 (assuming PLO50), ~10bb/100 of those running over all-in EV. That's a pretty good heater I assume (no idea how soft the PLO game really is). And you still have the mindset as if you were running bad, getting sucked out on constantly etc..

Everyone knows the feeling, especially getting beat by stupid hands by whales. chasing their gut shots vs 2 overbets or something. But your 20(10)bb/100 comes from somewhere. Mindset probably should be your first priority at the moment.

two is more than enough imo. so far i managed doing it on one. was even 11-tabling when playing tournaments. i will use the 2nd monitor to watch obs and show live session graphs which wasnt possible before.

my problem is that i cant really work om my mindset. the only thing i can do is to make playing as comfortable as possible. im pretty sure once i got like 100 buy ins for plo200 things will be so much better. you gotta get there though that will be hard enough.

Great job! It is so hard to keep your cool with the rediculously high variance in PLO.

Good luck!!

Hello everyone :f_drink:

It's been a while for me but here I am again. My poor financial situation and the fact that I need some extra money (tuition fee) for next month gave me motivation to get back into the grind. My course of study is sadly suffering from it right now but I'll be able to catch back up. Getting the money together was more important haha.

Last time I played on pokerstars.es. Nice site obviously and very soft tables. I missed a lot of changes and realised I'm no longer allowed to play there. Since I didn't really have any spare money to deposit like 500€ on GG Poker for example and clear the bonus I was basically forced to play on stars.eu. Unfortunately I have really bad experience with PLO on stars.eu as it is not too soft or I am just not good enough haha. Either way, I didn't feel too good about giving it a shot but I had no choice.

I deposited 50€ on March 14th.

Spoiler

Start has been a bit swingy but EV was looking great and I wasn't running too bad haha.
That should quickly change of course. I mean we're talking about PLO right? xD

Spoiler

Oof that hurts. I don't remember too well what was going on but that was definately bad run and tilt combined. It still is really hard for me to grasp that even the worst players can get there in a hand. It's not the suckouts that annoy me, it's the players that play A233 rainbow and somehow hit their shit that is just annoying as hell.
Anyway, my bankroll was I think as low as 12$ or something like that. I cleared all the spin tickets I got from the chests and was lucky to get a few knock outs in the weekly 5k Freeroll. All that basically kept me alive at some point.

Spoiler

I can't even remember what happened shortly after hand 8k but it definately meant I had to play PLO2/PLO5 to avoid going broke. Man going down a limit is really hard because I tend to feel like a huge failure really quickly. Don't wanna go into too much detail but my mental game is not the best .... siiiiigh.

Spoiler

It got a little wild again. I probably took shots at PLO10 using like 40bb to start it off. Very swingy but overall going into the right direction I would say.

Spoiler

Then BOOM!
What a nice heater. I was definately taking a shot at PLO25 and obviously it worked out really well! I felt like I got into the gring finally and that everything would be fine from now on ...

Spoiler

... guess I was wrong LOL.
God damn. Why am I so stupid and weak? I was repeating this line over and over. You all know that poker can very frustrating.
It is very interesting to see the actual BB graph of this. Because this goes to show what exactly is going wrong for me

Spoiler

My BRM literally is trash and it has always been. I can't stick to any kind of plans. It is quite sad but I'm the opposit of a patient person. I want my success and I want it quick lol. It's just sad that I sabotage myself like that because in the end I'm the one who's hurt by it.

Ok, so not even a week ago I was left with 7.71$. I had wasted almost exactly two weeks where I basically didn't study at all. I had not earned a single $. The pokerstars leaderboard promo is what kept me alive honestly. I think I got a 2nd place on the PLO2 for $15 once. And some like 4$ cashes.

Spoiler

Another great example how different $ graph compared to bb graph can be. Anyway, I was running good and not playing too bad at all.
At this point I had cleared all the silver chests, earned like a $60 chest from the leaderboard and a couple 15$ chests or so. My bankroll was around 250$ I'd say until that happened.

Spoiler

Oof!
Obviously my BRM was still really aggressive and while this looks really bad I often cashed out to minimize variance. I was probably down just 100$ and not this much. Still it hurt as hell and I was crying like a bitch why it has to be me who's running bad all the time yada yada xD.

Spoiler

And this has been the last couple of days. I don't wanna use the word sadly but actually it is. The graph shows me running way aboce EV but I cashed out a ton of the pots that were 60/40 or flips. So unfortunately my winnings aren't nearly as high. I'll take it though haha.

Spoiler

Final results after like 3 weeks in $ and bb. The bb graph actually looks somewhat decent. You could think I'm doing well but the $ graph literally shows how fked up my mind is lol :f_mad:
Little recap of what happened yesterday. So my Bankroll was 844$ when I started. I play up to PLO100 but just to clear the 300 hands for the leaderboard. I buy in at 40bb and tell myself to leave when it gets dicey. Well that never happens though haha. So yesterdays session was going well. I grinded my way up to 1.030$ bankroll and was really happy. The tables were looking really soft (no wonder, it's weekend). I kept playing and sadly start running super bad. Nothing worked out, I missed all the boards and villains always had it. I was actually getting angry at myself for not stopping earlier. So what happened is I dropped to 670$. I was down 170$ for the day. Not much considering the limits I was playing but really annoying considering how soft the tables have been. I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth and got rdy for bed. It was around 1am and I had to get up again at 4am for my delivery job that starts super early.
Idk why but I decided to check out the tables again. I saw some big whales that I discovered earlier and the tables were just too juicy. I quickly dropped a little further to almost under 600$ but then the heater hit me. At that point I played PLO200 too which obviously was dumb but I got lucky I guess. I won a 100bb pot without SD with aces on a 552 flop in a 4bet pot. Then I stacked a reg with AKQx on AAJ Q while he had AJ (he overplayed imo). Then I won 3 stacks in a row vs the same reg at PLO100. The first one was flush over flush and then he got tilted and I was lucky to have it. Then a few more nice hands vs fun players and boom my bankroll hit 1.444$ :f_love:

I guess nice Cinderella story :f_biggrin:

Fingers crossed that I won't go broke

I almost forgot to add some stats that might be interesting.

Looks like the run continues :f_eek:

Actual profit was ~700$ since I used the cashout feature a lot. I just happen to win most of the flips lol. Tables have also been super soft but no surprise since it was sunday. Not gonna lie, I'm a little scared now. I can already feel the oncoming downswing:s_mad:
