I also play in micro limits, and could it be that villain was either a LAG or even a maniac? Considering that he was just protecting his blinds, he may have hit something on the flop probably a 6.

He is definitely NOT LAG or maniac. He is loose passive, and when passive guy bets it means he has something good. What is good in his eyes we can’t know, I guess something between top pair and straight ;-) Problem with your hand is you have only 6 outs to make top pair, and it may be no good, so you have no reason to continue.

Hero made top pair on the turn; so, if villain had top pair after the flop--the best that he may have had in my assessment--he later on had to chase. I don't think that villain was just loose passive. I think, his hole cards were in his calling range, not raising range preflop--both are wide. His bet could just be a statement that he had hit something, probably top pair. There are many players like villain in micro limits. They lead to block a larger bet because they are drawing, or to make a statement that they have something, and other reasons that I probably haven't noticed yet. And, when you just call, they may see it as a sign of weakness and make a larger bet after the turn. I see this a lot. Many of them who play in such way are definitely not a calling station.
