Oh -- and congratulations on great results.
I admire your discipline in holding off taking a shot after your downturn.

All the best,

I am surprised by myself to be honest. But I am glad I waited. I feel a little bit more prepared than if I just jumped through limits. It is about creating a realistic plan and then sticking to it. Which is what I am trying to do. And since I dont have any ambition to make my living with poker I dont feel any pressure whatsoever. Simply when the pinpoints of my plan are achieved I move on. If not, I just wait. :f_thumbsup: Not gonna lie though. When I found out I was just like 50bb away from the next limit I tried to chase it and dropped 4BIs. Because even when there is no pressure, the feeling from beating a limit is still great :f_rolleyes:

Thanks so much guys :f_love: Comment and criticize as much as you like. I will only appreciate it :f_biggrin:

Anyway started with my game analysis. With focus on NL5. I will be going slowly one by one throughout the list. Starting with biggest losses and wins. I wanna know if the spots where I lost stack were just variance or whether I spewed it. The same goes for wins. By biggest losses and wins I mean spots where I lost or won 80bbs or more.

So there were 42 spots where I won 80bbs or more and 16 where I lost. Thats quite good. When I get involved in a big pot I am like 2,5x more likely to win it than to lose it. But I am not sure about the whole number of large spots. Shouldnt I go AI more often than just 58 in 19k hands? Thats like AI once only every 330 hands. That seems a little too scarce. :f_eek: Anyway:

Losses:
Out of these 16 losses there were in my opinion 12 badbeats, suckouts etc. and 4 overplays/spews. And some of those badbeats were really hard ones as I complained in my previous posts :f_biggrin: In those 4 overplays I could have saved 3,5 BIs. That is not much over 19k hands but all of those were stupid mistakes. In 2 cases I underestimated fast plays of ultra passive fishes on dry boards and gave them my stack with overpair or TPTK against set or 2 pairs. Once I check/shoved river with a full house in a spot against a reg where I think I wont get called by worse and once I just missed a value Cbet on a flop and it hit me back with villain hitting a set OTT and me overplaying my TPTK.

But overall definitely not a tragedy and I can safely assume that I am not a spewy player :f_biggrin:

Wins:
I divided wins into 3 categories. Standard wins - I got a better hand and stacked my opponent. Outplay - where I think I made some move that made my opponent spew and I wouldnt win the stack in a standard way. Lucky wins - I won that pot simply from variance being on my side. Like a preflop all in against a better hand etc. In a way standard wins are also lucky wins but by lucky wins I mean those games that I possibly did not play the best and won anyway or where my odds werent that great even if I played well. There is of course an overlay of many hands since some of them can be put in more categories.

Standard wins - there were 35 hands I would tag as a standard win. Where I just got a better hand and my opponent payed me off with a sort of a good hand as well. Some of villains plays are of course very overplayed or too ambitious. But I wouldnt say I outplayed them.

Outplays - I would tag 7 spots as outplays. Where I made a move on my opponent and he took the bait. Most of them are a check OTR to induce bluff.

Lucky wins - fun fact. In 19k hands I havent found any large wins that I consider just luck in a bad luck situation. Literally there is not one single large pot where I would go all in as an underdog and ended up winning. When I won a whole stack I was always ahead already when the all in happened. :f_ugly:

So a few take outs and insights from this small analysis:

:club: I dont play spewy (most of the time). Keep it on!
:club: Fishes dont mess around on dry boards. Even when it makes no sense to check/raise K82r with your 88 to 5x, they just do it. So give them credit and fold even and overpair.
:club: I am not doing that bad when it comes to big pots and variance. Sure there were some outrageous badbeats but not too many tbh. But most of my strong hands held on to the river. So I shouldnt complain as much. Could be much worse!
:club: Variance still owes me a little though. Especially with AA where I am terribly below EV. And some luckbox spots would be nice too.
:club: Let the fish spew. Especially on the river. Unlike regs, fishes are not afraid of huge river bluffs when they sense weakness. It has worked quite a few times for me when I just checked on the river and the fish went crazy immediately. I am sure I won like 5BIs this way at least.
:club: Fish overplay wet boards for some reason. Many big wins were from hands where I just played my hand straight forward and a fish payed me off on a wet board even with medium made hand. So I think I can widen my stack off range on wet boards to hands like TPGK profitably against fish.

Next time I am probably gonna take a look at my stats. To see where I could work on my aggression etc. :f_drink:

I honestly love your approach to the game, especially the studying part. People always underestimate the benefits of analyzing their sessions regularly, even though it is an essential part of self-improvement (as a poker player).

You have all the potential to succeed in achieving your poker goals, just keep on doing what you're doing. When I sit to the NL25 tables this evening, I'm gonna tell them you're coming.

Cheers! :f_drink:

Haha, made my day :f_biggrin:

Anyway it is difficult with the real life stuff again. We are about to move to a different city which means setting up new internet connection as well. Things are also intense at work. I worked until 23:30 yesterday :f_ugly: Not much time for grinding now. I will also be from Saturday to Tuesday away from my gaming PC. So in the next one or two weeks it is gonna be more about studying and analysis than playing. But I will squeeze in a session every now and then.

I am hopefully back at the tables. Today I played after like 9 days. But in the last 9 days I definitely did not ditch poker. I regularly post in the HJ forum, read articles and watch videos on daily basis for several hours. I just didnt have neither time nor energy to play. In the following week I have a vacation to unpack stuff in our new apartement so its grinding time!

In the meantime I took a look at some more points from my list of analysis I want to do.

Cbet:
My Cbet seems to be ok I guess. I Cbet at 55% of the time. And over 1 331 hands where I Cbet I achieved a winrate of 409 bb/100. So this move is probably not the one where I bleed money. But maybe I could try to find more spots to Cbet and make it up to 60-65%. I think that 55% is a little bit lower than it could be.

Flush draws:
I had a feeling that I am running bad when it comes to flush draws. And I was wrong. I am running almost as precisely as probability dictates. So I gotta look for unluck somewhere else :f_biggrin:

3bet
I am quite pleased here because in the spots where I 3bet I have a winrate of 373 bb/100. It is also kinda connected to the fact that my 3bet is very low (4,44%) so it would be a little sad if I were losing here. But still, 3bet pots are a situation where I dont feel the best but it seems so far that in reality I handle them quite well. Maybe I can start working on finding more suitable spots to 3bet and drag it up to 7-8%.

Facing a 3bet
My fold to 3bet stat is 60% which is not bad. I was expecting it to be higher. Yes, in theory it could be lower but I think that no one is going to exploit me at the micros. I am glad it is not like 80% or something.
If I call a 3bet this is a situation where I am losing. Over 251 hands where I called a 3bet I have lost -273 bb/100. In absolute number it is not that bad (like 17 dollars). But still it is a situation where I am losing money and I could focus on it.

Thats enough for now. Lets play! :f_drink:

Hey man, good luck with your new apartment :f_thumbsup:

Regarding your stats:

CBet: 55% seems alright. With a bit of study I'm sure you can easily bump it up to 60-65%. (mine is currently around 60%)

Flush Draw: I would just not bother going into those areas of analysis. The mind loves to look for reasons "why" we might not be winning as much as we "Expect" to be. The best advice I can give is Ask yourself what you control and what you do not control, and then act on the things that you do control.

3Bet: Your winrate is very good but you can definitely start to widen your ranges. Focus on 3Betting wider In late position (BBvsBTN,SBvsBTN). Generally people open too wide from BTN and defend badly. (my 3Bet wr is around 340bb/100 which is lower than yours, however my 3Bet % is around 8.5%. So you can see that even though I make less bb/100, I play almost double the amount of 3bet pots as you so my total bb won will be higher. For what it's worth I feel like I should be pushing my 3bet range to at least 12% on the lower stakes)

Hope this helps man, Good Luck =)

Whats'up brother,

you should be careful with those stats as many of them are misleading. For example your winrate after calling a 3bet...you don't want to be in green numbers there, it would actually be a leak. Your goal is to lose less than you would lose by folding (eg. when your standard open raise size is 2,5 bb, you want your winrate to be higher than -250 bb/100).

Anyway, good luck with your new apartment _drink:
(I'm actually moving this week too, heh)

I see what you saying and you are right. If I filter "facing a 3bet preflop" which involves all of the options regarding my reaction to 3bet then my winrate is -200 bb/100 which is good news because I open 3x from EP/MP and 2,5x from the rest as default. Hardly ever lower than that. As there are many limpers I also open 4x or even more sometimes.

Glad you like it. Hope you learn something but tbh I dont know what you could learn

I might have also discovered another leak of mine and that is my redline. I know it is recommended to have a negative redline winrate. But I watched Weazels video on defending blinds and he says that the redline overall should be around -10 bb/100. If I filtered it correctly (SawShowdown=false) then my redline is -24 bb/100 :f_ugly: So I can improve so much when it comes to non-showdown winnings that I dont even know where to start. Luckily my blueline is growing faster so I am not losing but it could be a major problem if I manage to get to the higher limits...one day.

I have also connected it with the "won when saw flop" stat. It should be around 50% or slightly higher and mine is only 42%. It means that I am giving up too many hands thus losing more in non-showdown than I should...or could. I think that NL10 can be the point where I start to defend more and try to improve my redline a little bit at least.

What do you think of it and how is your redline? Have you taken any steps to improve it?

Once you will start to 3bet more than 4,44% your red line will start to climb a bit.
You started to add more hands to your 3bet range already ?

?

My redline (SawShowdown=false) - 19,28 :f_frown: But winrate is 8,47bb/100, 27 500h on NL5 :f_love:

Hmmm....

I have a strict table selection, so to my right are recreational players, so 3 I bet for value, so if I bet 3 more, it will theoretically increase my winrate (or decrease it, but with redline it doesn't move much) I'll always bet when I hit and that I don't want to see foldy ...... Am I thinking right?

Often there is a fish even to my left, so I always can't steal the blind light ......:f_confused::f_confused:

GL guys!!! :f_thumbsup:

Yes this is one of the main things I am working on now. On NL10 my 3bet is almost 7 so far. I am trying to look for more 3bet spots and dont fear to play them postflop (which used to be the largest boundary). Another adjustment I am trying to make is blind defense. To 3bet more in a BvB situations, squeeze more in BU open/SB call situation and also flat more and then play more aggressively postflop instead of giving up too much. Will see how it goes. So far I am doing ok on NL10 but the sample is too small because of the moving and stuff.

I think in the days of Coronavirus you should tighten up and play less, with all the donkies wasting their time at computers instead of doing something creative.

That's actually more reason to widen your range and take their monies
