I think the worst might have been with Mental Game of Poker. We worked for two years on it and then released it on......Black Friday.
In terms of poker it was I had JJ, flop is J22, money goes in, dude has KQ, the turn is a 2, the river a 2, his king high kicker wins

It actualy depends on the site. Some sites have the 1st place payouts are the exact same as the 2nd place payouts (and the winner gets a bigger prize because they get the final bounty + their own bounty). For these sites do something similar to normal MTT bankroll management. PokerStars and party do this payout method.
If the site has 1st place getting a bigger payout than 2nd before the bounties (GGpoker do this), then you need to be way more conservative. This is because the 1st place prize is much more top heavy than a regular MTT, so playing for the win is massive.
Some people wrongly think that you can play with less bankroll management because you win more small prizes, but in a PKO the top prizes are often way more than a regular MTT and this should shape your BRM.

I'm a bit of a nerd so I actually have thought a lot about this. I think I have spent 300 hours per book from idea to completion AND the initial marketing. So far I have cowritten all my books and reckon my co-author spent a similar amount of time. So the four books I've done are probably 500-600 hours of work. Mental Game of Poker 1 was probably closer to 1,000.
A book like Modern Poker Theory I think must have taken even more, 2,000 maybe.
Of course if you know your stuff and are a quick writer, I'm sure somebody could knock one out much quicker.

We actually have a pretty comprehensive guide to this in the book, the bigger the bounty the wider you can go, but for starters when you cover somebody near the beginning 5.4% looser is a good starting point. The shape of your range changes too, high card + suited hands go up in value, smaller pairs go down in value a little.

We assumed most Germans spoke really good English so less of a need for it.

A freeroll PKO? Or a freeroll satellite?
If its a PKO then go nuts, nobody folds anyway so you can go wide for a bounty. If its a satellite then the biggest difference is you wont know what the target stack will be until after late registration. In a normal satellite if its a 1 in 10, you know you need roughly 10 starting stacks to win a seat (we actually say closer to 60% of that so six starting stacks) but in a freeroll the prizes dont change with the number of entrants, so wait until late reg is over, then divide the chips in play by the number of prizes and that is the stack you need for the bubble.
