Hey -- welcome to the PokerStrategy.com forums!

I quite like 888 myself as well

Never in my life I experienced so much bad beats as there. Sadly, that means I'm going in with good odds, but who knows when it will stop. Except that, they are shady with bonusses and in general are not providing anything special. Remember 777poker room? That was a great room. You would deposit cash and they would double it in real cash directly into your account. To unlock high bonuses in 888Poker you gotta be a madman and also go trough many, many various rules trials and tribulations.

For me it was a room -- that no longer exists -- called PKR
It was similar to GGPoker in that it had a reputation for loads of very poor players.
It also had fancy animations and other gimmicky graphics.

I could never find the easy marks.

I do fine on 888 -- but I play PLO8, not holdem, though

Yeah, PKR, I also remember that one but I didn't play it. My friend had it, was watching him play somtimes back in 2010/11. Aces would crack kings, kings would crack queens and queens would crack jacks. Fun, profitable times. Those old school rooms made some good poker players.

That's variance/skills, nothing with the room. Since i joined 888 a few months ago i'm 10bb/100 on 100kh snap poker.

That being said the room isn't rigged but i don't think it's a good room... Playing there for the only reason that the field is weak

I can go with all of the above opinions, I just guess I am not yet that good like LeRoux90 to get my rate/100. Need to work on this. ;-)
I was already on the way out of the room, but the payout to my local account from which I deposited didn't work. I guess it was because it is a mauritian rupee account.
So I find the room is quite ok. For the moment I play Snap NLH2
The bonuses are sometimes crap or useless since I will not wager $180 in the casino (will not play it anyway) to win a Dollar bonus and the freeplays are also useless when you can win a bonus which you have to get through a pretty bad wagering rate. But sometimes I wonder where that $1 blast tickets come from... Surely not from the free spin. The day before yesterday I suddenly had $2 more in my bankroll. Checking the bonuses I saw they sneaked one in on that day. Probably through this every 5 minutes up to $1000?

Have to say the bad beats are sometimes amazing. Always had issues to get my AA to the flop since everyone folds to my raise. Today I had one Limp/Allin 55 against my aces and 5 on the river. Yesterday with KK I flopped KJx vs AQs he goes allin and gets the T on the river. AK< A8. Even when it is more likely to get a split pot due to a 4 suited board on the turn, the 1-3 outs of villain will hit.
Anyway I am amazed how calm I remain, especially today after these AA vs 55. In the old time something on the desk would have gone broke. Maybe it comes with age? marriage?
Well I don't want to complain, at least not before I thoroughly reviewed my sessions. Normally if I don't find an error in my play I will look where I made an error. ;-)

The new software is the worse ever if multi tabling. The SNG section is pants. The tournament section is lacking in, well, tournaments. It seems the owners are determined to drive players away with bogus bonus offers and other scam offerings. As such I only play here when Pokerstars is down.

I play PLO8 cash on 888, so I can't comment on Hold'em in general.
However if I'm holding AA, I expect folds, since so many hold'em players like their Ax hands, and if I've got two of 'em there's less likelihood others do also.

Well they look like scammers to me. Just signed up there from the UK. New to online poker and know pretty much nowt about the various sites but 888pker has a brand name I'd heard of.

Made a large (by my standards) deposit to get the best offer on initial deposit. Put in $400 which cost me £306.99 (about £10 down on a fair rate) so that was not too good.

As I hadn't really tested the site, my bad, when I navigated around I didn't get the impression that number of games/players was right for me (this was about midnight UK time).

Next day I decided to look for something UK based, to make the most of time matching, so I withdrew my funds. Got confirmation email but then next day I get a 'Restrictions on your account' email, requesting verificatiion documents. Of course, it's all in the name of security, blah, blah, blah, but they were happy to take the cash without any verification and no mention of verification during the reeling in and sign up procedure. No doubt in the small print of course.

Finally got an 'Approved withdrawral confirmation' email telling me I'd withdrawn '284.04 GBP', a net loss of '22.95 GBP' or approximately '31 USD' without gambling a penny!

To add insult to injury, they have disabled my login so I can't even complain in 'virtual' person.

Not cool 888poker.

Hi snifferdawg,
I'm surprised that they let you withdraw at all.
Generally, when you deposit to a poker site, you must play with that money for a certain time, a certain number of hands or a certain monetary value before you can withdraw.

These amounts are in the terms of service.

Also, when depositing or withdrawing cross-currency exchange rate are rarely what is quoted by forex sites like XE.com
To make matters worse, the site, your bank or both may charge fees for foreign exchange transactions.

Before you deposit elsewhere, I recommend that you get all these numbers in advance.

Sorry to hear you had a poor experience.
Overall, 888 isn't all that bad...

Best Regards,
VS

Interesting, I'll bear that in mind. Trouble is, they know nobody (well hardly anybody) reads the small print so they have by the short and curleys!

Anyway, just another bad beat!

This happen on every room it's not 888, especially if you did money conversion. Experimented it multiple times in room transfers, cash out USD to CAD to deposit CAD to USD, losing money EVERY time

Room is trash on many aspects but you guys attribute things that are not from 888 to 888

Must say that 888 is the worst room on transparency i ever seen tho, we can't understand most of the things they offers and their support is extremely trash. I did messaged them like 2 weeks ago for clarification about gold tokens and some bonuses, still no answer and at this point i don't expect any. Plus i played 2 hours of happy hours supposely giving 50% rakeback, never received it too

Overall, 888 isn't all that bad...

I really disagree, room is trash tbh, i feel like i'm playing raw in this room. Everything is unclear and they seems to volountary want it to be unclear. It's really close to be scams sometimes

I'm on it since around a year and i could write a book on 888 cons

When the changed their bonus policy, I was confused for months, and I never did learn how it worked from 888 Support.
Every answer took over a week, and most of the time they support tech either misunderstood my question, or got the answer wrong.

Therefore, I'll agree that their support is below par.

However, I do like playing there.

Sorry but can't agree there. No multi currency, no messing about and if it were down to exchange rates it would work both ways, i.e. lose in one direction, gain in the other.

This was simply a $30 rake off in 24hrs. A scam!

Not so.
On exchange rates, they get you going and coming.

I do agree that PokerStars' way of handling currency transactions is the best in the business.
It has been so many years since I deposited on 888 that I can no longer remember how exactly I did it, nor what the fees were.

I must have paid some form of fee, since I would have deposited using a $CAD bank account, and 888 accepts funds in $US
Now, however I would deposit using an e-Wallet. Not Skrill or Neteller. Unfortunately, neither allows Canadians.

Makes it even more of a scam then. A rake off of what, 8% ish?, over 24hrs is just plain bad. Think I'll look at Paypal in the future.

The bank does the same thing (and so does PayPal, and I'm sure Neteller and Skrill also)
Currently to buy $US using $CAD

From the website of a Canadian bank:
Country  Currency/Code  Client Buys (Pays Canadian)  Client Sells (Receives Canadian)
United States   Dollar (USD)                       1.3027                            1.2307

So if I walk in to this bank and buy $US 1000 It costs me $1302.70 Canadian
If I then sell it right back I get only $1230.70 -- so $35.00 each way or about 3.5%
There will likely be fees as well.

I think that this is a well-known factor in foreign exchange trading.

Best Regards,
VS

3.5% is not 8% and as the exchange is being done as part of the 'service', it boils down to a good shafting.
