Yeah, the fishing was slow... caught plenty already this season... and yeah, have fried them up as well! they are good!
nice
you might have to come down to wisconsin sometime!
So played 2 sets this morning, 12 $6 sngs and im down $40 for the day ♠. Not sure if its a downswing or im just not ready for this level yet. I think I'll wear one more set and hopefully will go up, if not i'll have to move back down and work on my game!
soooooooo yesterday after last post i played one more set of 6.50's and got to $-11 for the day. But i ended up having a little of a slip tilt because of some personal problems, disregarded my BRM and lost about $300. Kind of ashamed of this, shouldn't be making these kind of petty mistakes but hopefully by posting here will be motivation to not do stupid things like this again! But then mostly last night and 1 set today, I made up about $50 back on the 3.40 18 mans. I've got about a 41% ROI over 81 tournaments, which i know doesnt mean much for only 81 tournaments, but I think it means I'm going in the right direction. So I will keep grinding back up to $600 before starting the 6.50's again.
Right now, BR at $400.
Alright well just got back from California after the last week off. Learned how to surf, drank, tore my leg up doing crazy longboarding. Was all in all a good trip ![]()
Got home tonight felt like playing just a little. Had some more issues before leaving, so am back to the 3.40 18 mans. Was up $14 today, and Bankrolls at $348!
Nice... I actually learned to surf earlier this year when I was in Cape Town... now you got me thinking about a fishing/surfing road trip
hmmm you could interest me in this trip ♦.
Congrats on becoming diamond btw!! What stakes/where are you playing??
My internets been out all day, which sucks because with my leg all torn up i can barely drive, i think i might've scraped the muscle underneath, been a pretty painful day. So was stuck in the house all day. The people here to work on the house accidently cut the cable and internet wires.. so sucked, and then once i've sat around all day doing not too much, realized I can get one of the neighbors wifi. Not fastest connection, but good enough to play poker :). Ran up a quick set and had a ridiculous amount of bad beats but nonetheless ended up +$21, not too bad for an hour! Will definately be playing more the next couple days since i'm couped up inside!
Hey thanks!
I'm playing mainly $22s and $33s on Mansion with a few $11s to boost volume, but that's only gonna be for the next couple days as I am moving to stars currently... gonna play the $22s to get a feel for it, then get established at the $33s...
So had an awesome day, up like $60 or something in 2 sets i think. Huge, cashed itm in everyone of my set of 9, was sweet :).
Then I had last night/today...
see below

For some reason it doesnt say but thats over 28 tourneys, Biggest dry spell I've had. I don't think my play has changed at all, but right now I'm going to go over all these tourneys with the replayer, then play a set or 2, and hopefully either fix what I'm doing wrong, or just get out of this downer!
I'm also in the process of setting up a more organized blog, with more goals, more learning goals. I've kind of just always played and done alright because I'm at low limits and people suck :P. But I need to start watching videos, reading articles, training on ICM, reviewing my games. I will figure this out soon, just kind of been hectic at the moment, was out of town, and had a ton of stuff wrong after vacation, some personal problems, late things for university next year (that I'm skeptical about going anyways). But I will try to get on this soon!! Might give a quick update after these 2 sets if not too tired!
BR currently at-$323
so another set of 9, busted out of first 8, had 800 chips left in last one with 300/600 blinds, 5 or 6 handed still. ended up coming back to win ♦.. felt good after such a dry day, but still negative session :(.
Hope things will turn around tomorrow,
BR-314
man hard day again. Started out ok, 2 sets of 9 was up $15. Should have been more but I had an auto sng joiner on, and was talking to dippy and was looking at the different limits, ended up having the automatic one join some 16s. gay. But still was up, then decided to play one more tonight.
10 sngs, 1 4th place. It just doesnt seem possible, i went through and heres all my busts
KK vs AA first hand
KK busted by QQ
AK vs AQ vs KQ. Q on flop
Ak vs AQ
K9s vs J9s
78s vs 73o
AJo vs TJs
A5o vs T3o
KTs vs 44
AT vs AK
These were all in preflop. Often dominated, I really just don't understand. So I'm down to $305. Hope I'll get out of this sometime!

Been there, had it happen.
Reading Nick Parks Blog showed me though that with these SNGs you need
to keep up a sick volume in order to make it through the slumps.
Im on a SNG break playing FL and it seems the same thing for me applies...
I have had sessions start out bad, I mean any time You get kings your
against Ax usually A4 - A6 and you just know the river is going to be an ace the
whole time you are betting every street and getting called ..
then the river shows up as an A and your fish reraises.....
or the other usual stuff, AA by 2 pair etc etc etc......
but when I just said forget the cash and I kept
up the numbers... now doing 6 tables at once, I was able to actually
ignore the insane ass kicking and grind right through it and the retarded
bad beats do not bother me any more because I can see that
over time I seem to be winning 2 huge pots for every one I lose to
a badbeat.
Anyhow I am writing in your SNG blog to let you know that I intend to apply
this to SNGs when I return to them, and to let ya know it can get MUCH worse
before it improves but From reading this it looks like you'll pull through NP.
Good Luck.
Hey dadude, are you still playing the $3,40?
If you are, here's my opinion: You have 100bi to this limit. When you are playing, forget about checking your bankroll, just play. Checking your hands taht your lost its ok, but i prefere going to sng wiz to see if my pushes were +EV.
These 18 sng have a huge variance, I had a 30bi downswing. But they are totally beatable, you just have to play your A-game
Good luck at the tables ♠_grin:
Hey Dadude
It happens... and it's why BRM is so important and also why mindset is so important with SNGs...
Firstly the approach to SNGs should be to play your A-game and review your results/progress every 500-1000 games... Don't focus on the short term results! when I had a 2000 game breakeven stretch I had many many many sessions like you have been describing... if you make you game solid you will get there... but you have no control over how long it will take... even at the moment I am currently down about $800 from where I was about 5 days ago... and as much as I feel like whining (and I did in my blog) I know it all will come together... just don't go bust which brings me...
to point 2... Avoid tilting... personally when I can't win a hand, when I go all-in preflop and I am dominating villain and they suckout again and again and again and I wonder if I do really win 70% of the time in 70-30 situtaions cos it doesn't feel like it! and my KK gets cracked in all sortss of colourful ways then psychologically I take a hit... I have learnt to fight through it a lot and not let it bother me, but every now and again I start feeling really despondent, lethargic, indifferent and generally pissed off... I start calling preflop that my KK will get cracked again, and yelling when it happens! when this happens, it's time to stop registering for new tournies... although I have got better at knowing this is happening and stopping earlier... but my point is that if you don't stop, your play deteriorates and the money evaporates... and in extreme cases we make STUPID decisions and play out of BRM....
When downswings hit, stop, study, post hands, watch videos, practise on the ICM trainer, KNOW that you make good decisions when you play and in time you will see the results... maybe 500 games, maybe 1000 maybe only 10000... but that is the way that it works... and when we accept this then the game really starts...
Sorry for the really long post... but it is as much advice for me as it is for every other SNG player...
Good luck!
nice post NickParkes!!
have you swiched from playing 100% of your poker time to 50% playing and 50% learning?
Not quite 50/50, but I have spent more time reviewing my sessions and tweaking my ICM play.... it needs a tune up every now and again!
Thank you for the posts, most of the time doesn't seem like too many people are reading :).
I haven't been playing too much, Saturday-Monday I was at my uncles who lives about 30 mins north of me. We went fishing for most of the weekend, caught a 6.5 pound catfish at 28 In which was pretty good catch ♦.
Then this week my cousins had driven about 30 hours I'd say to get here. So I've been with them most of the time, haven't played at all since last week although I had a session review of some past tourneys with Atoks.
Found one of my main things is I push a little too tight, especially from SB and BB, gotta work on situations where I really have to push any two!
@nickparkes/897. Thank you for the posts :), sometimes just gets a little feeling like, you start to doubt yourself when you're not winning and can kinda suck :P. just was having some personal stuff at same time, and yeah. Anyways I'm ready to come back strong and will definitely play a few sets tonight!
@Alverine Yup I'm going to grind the $3.40s and then move up to $6.50's because I like the turbos better, not sure if I will stick with 18 man or move to 9 man, I'll see when I get there :).
@flows I haven't really played too much, or learned. Just kinda busy, hopefully will get more learning there ![]()
@MaCe90 I play the $3.40 18 man turbos on stars!
So I just realized that there are also 10 man turbos, just not 9 mans (which I probably had filters on for). I'm giving these a shot for the next couple days and will see how it goes, only played one set and ended up down $0.60 but I still seem to have no luck. I'm confident I can win in these, and will keep up a positive attitude and grind through it ![]()
Also I've kind of lost interest in some other hobbies since I started with poker, its easy to spend much of your free time doing that, between the forum and playing. So I'm starting to work out again, fishing quite a bit, just signed up for guitar lessons since i've always wanted to learn etc :), think should make me a bit more balanced out!
So played quite a bit today, 5 sets throughout the day! And heres graph for the day.

Ended up basically breakeven however the first set that was all losses and one 3rd, so -$24 I believe.. I had woken up ate and opened a set of 9, filled up quick during the day. Almost second the last one opened my mom called me, she'd locked her keys in the car on the other side of town and needed me to drive over the spare set. I knew I wouldnt be back in time before blinding out, so decided to let my little brother (who has absolutly no poker experience, but has watched me once or twice play for me) figured if he could get itm in one or 2 would be better than nothing.. He ended up getting 3rd in one/9 which is better than nothing i guess hahha.. when i told him his first response was... :OOOO how am i supposed to play 9 tables at the same time????? lol but yeah, was rough start to the day and had a ridiculous amount of losses on all in where i'd dominated the villain and was starting to get frustrated in last set when i'd busted out of 6/9, then had a few suckouts myself in the late stages, ended up winning last 3 to break even for the day. I was planning on palying one more set before bed, but i think i wanna go to sleep on that happy thought :), will see how things go tomorrow!! I haven't really decided if I like these 10 mans more than the 18 mans... I will play some more and then decide!
I would recommend the 18 man.
On average they only take ~10 mins longer to finish then the 10 man,
and they are just as easy to get paid in.
I made my first ever decent profit from one single limit playing the $3 18 man on Stars.
When your table gets short, just abuse the hell out of everyone, they will mostly
be trying to fold their way onto the final table.
Dont start shoving 72os every hand or anything, but watch the other players,
and you will often find yourself on a tight as hell table trying to fold into the final table,
and when they get there they have NO STACKS to fight with.
So just shove a bit wider, and within 3 or 4 blind scoopings, you have a decent stack,
and you are ready to fight for first place when its final table time.
