The years may have changed, the game types may have changed but Tim64 is still crushing!

I know right!
Yeah man, all good here, significant career change in the last 12 months.
Glad to see some familiar faces still "don these halls" even if less frequent.
Seems like you've been doing well for yourself at the tables and have adapted nicely to all the changes in the game as well as the regulatory changes etc.
NL10 graph, from around mid April until mid May 2021:

Adj bb/100 5.76, real bb/100 13.76. Ran very well. Made $225.
NL25 graph, from around end April until end June 2021:

The first limit where I genuinely struggled. Had to do a lot of work on mental game to deal with entitlement tilt.
EVbb/100 2.5 Real bb/100 4.27. Ran well again. Made $500.
NL50 graph

This covers period from early May until beginning of August 2021 (from which time I have hopefully said 'goodbye and good riddance' to NL50). You can begin to see the signs of a more mature attitude about half way along the graph. I'd worked on my game and, at long last, stopped making so many of the "hopefull tilt-calls" that burn so much $. I think by the end I was beating the limit, to some small degree, but due to rakeback was able to move up to NL100 without yet achieving a proper sample.
EVbb/100 -4.16 Real bb/100 -5.54. Ran a bit badly. Lost $775. Able to move up to NL100 only due to rakeback! ![]()
I won't post NL100 graph until I'm firmly established at NL200, if and when that happens.
IRL, daughter just started at secondary school and, somehow, I'm 45 years old...:f_rolleyes:
Thanks and have a good weekend!
Can't wait to follow your run at NL200.... I'm hoping to catch up to you someday and see you at the tables.
I'm in a similar age bracket but my youngest is just starting primary school...
As you can see in poker and IRL, I like to take my time at things... lol
Wish you all the best.
NL100 going slow and steady lately. Got knocked back a bit to $2.5k for 25BI (and still 5BI away from NL200 shot). With luck I'll get that shot this month but so far EVbb/100 is only 2.14, so a lot of work to do.
Played a cool hand the other day which changed my opinion about another player. I find that happens quite often. I was quite sure this player was incapable of bluffing otr, but once he showed his hand my fold looks super nitty (and wrong) so it's time to change the notes!
Here's the hand:
$1 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by Holdem Manager 3
UTG: $143.57 (143.6 bb)
CO: $42.56 (42.6 bb)
BTN: $289.48 (289.5 bb)
Hero (SB): $253.39 (253.4 bb)
BB: $100.00 (100 bb)
Hero posts SB $0.50, BB posts $1.00
Pre Flop: (pot: $1.50) Hero has T♠: A♣:
2 folds, BTN raises to $2.50, Hero raises to $8.50, fold, BTN calls $6.00
Flop: ($18.00, 2 players) A♠: 7♣: 6♥:
Hero checks, BTN checks
Turn: ($18.00, 2 players) T♣:
Hero bets $6.00, BTN raises to $24.00, Hero calls $18.00
River: ($66.00, 2 players) J♠:
Hero checks, BTN bets $122.00, Hero folds
Results: $66.00 pot ($3.25 rake)
Final Board: A♠: 7♣: 6♥: T♣: J♠:
BTN shows K♣: 8♣:: (High Card, Ace)
(Pre 0%)
BTN wins $61.75
We are pretty much at top of our range I would imagine. Well AA possible. This deep I would expect 89s to start semibluffing flop to build pot as it can call x-r as well. So big hero fold imo.
I think we'll have some straights as well. But in general I agree that appart from top set we're close to top of range.
Just to clarify, I think you're saying that this is too much of a hero fold (and that we should call)?
Yeah I would have hard time to fold especially if we assume villain to bet 89 on flop which imo would be super standard.
PS: Or maybe like check 98s without bd fd and bet others.
Hit a ~20BI d/s at NL100 last week which was pretty tough. My 4th >10BB d/s since starting cash in April. However, I think I played better during it than previously and avoided compounding it too much with tilt-based losses. It began to turn on Thursday (and let's hope it sticks!). Got some bonuses which kept me afloat too, so sill only ~5bi away from nl200 shot.
Graph so far for this month (NL100) and one fun hand:

$1 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players

BTN: $38.09 (38.1 bb)
SB: $34.80 (34.8 bb)
Hero (BB): $133.68 (133.7 bb)
UTG: $107.07 (107.1 bb)
MP: $151.54 (151.5 bb)
SB posts $0.50, Hero posts BB $1.00
Pre Flop: (pot: $1.50) Hero has 7♠: 7♦:
UTG raises to $2.50, 4 folds, Hero calls $1.50
Flop: ($5.50, 2 players) 8♥: 7♥: 7♣:
Hero checks, UTG bets $3.63, Hero raises to $7.85, UTG raises to $21.85, Hero calls $14.00
Turn: ($49.20, 2 players) 5♥:
Hero checks, UTG checks
River: ($49.20, 2 players) 4♥:
Hero bets $109.33 and is all-in, UTG calls $82.72 and is all-in
Results: $214.64 pot ($5.00 rake)
Final Board: 8♥: 7♥: 7♣: 5♥: 4♥:
Hero shows 7♠: 7♦:: (Four of a Kind, Sevens)
(Pre 55%, Flop 100%, Turn 100%)
UTG shows A♥: T♣:: (Flush, Ace High)
(Pre 45%, Flop 0%, Turn 0%)
Hero wins $208.64
I'm not supposed to x/r this hand, but I also don't think villain is supposed to cbet. Once raised he has a clear call (rather than rebluffing with nfb/backdoor). I often feel poker is a battle of mistakes - i.e. who makes the last/biggest mistake. Sometimes your own non-gto play is justified by your opponent's even more non-optimal play. Otr, he tanked for a long time. It's a gross spot. Calling seems theoretically good - if you get this far in the hand...
Thanks,
Tim64
Wow... nice hand for sure.
If you don't mind sharing... what was the gameplan on the turn when you check?
Is it check-call or check raise? The 5♥: seems like a good card to let him catch up if he is chasing (straight or) flush draws, was that why or would you have done same on any turn card?
Also, down swings suck... I hope the climb back up continues and you make it to NL200 soon.
When I saw that river, my first thought -- "Oh no, he has the 6♥:"
Nice hand for sure.
I love the clickback raise OTF.
It would have been sad if he had folded it there though

Yes I think we have to check most turns because our opponent has represented a very strong hand on the flop. Basically we're: 'I have a 7'. He's saying 'I have that beat'. I don't think bare overpairs are meant to re-raise much.
I think turn is a check call. Our opponent has 88 and some A7s hands but other than nut flush he doesn't have that many hands that could call a x/r. I think we have a range advantage here. That's why his flop raise seems a bit off to me. If he does have 88 the money will get in somehow whatever we do.

Thanks Tim, the check-call absolutely makes sense to me for the reason you describe.
A couple of follow-ups if you don't mind... if Turn goes check-check, and the River card is a complete miss (let's say 2♠: ) - I assume you are still betting the river - but curious about sizing? Do you stick with the shove and hope he's holding 88 or do you bet a different amount if a
doesn't drop? And finally... couldn't he have T♥:9♥: in his range - I would think he may play that similarly?
