Hello dear Pokerstrategists

I am excited to start my first blog ever. I am completely newbie at this, but I'll try to do my best.

ABOUT ME

My name is Alexandru, and I am from Republic of Moldova. I'm 30 y.o. Here I am:

POKER CAREER

I started my career, as most of you with Pokerstrategy's 50$. I got interested with Poker when i was 17. Damn... this 1 year was the longest year ever. Once I got 18 y.o., I imediately passed the test and recieved in a few days my first 50$. It took me a few hours to bust :censored: xD xD

However I really liked playing poker, so I tarted to deposit myself. I am now 30, still playing poker, but it wasn't full 12 years of playing poker. I have played 2-3 years effectively, like a complete fish. Since July this year, I believe I achieved the "Strong Fish" status xD since I watched Daniels Negreanu Masterclass on masterclass.com So many things have changed since then. And i see a progress everyday, that's why I decided to start a blog.

I have now ~57$ on Pokerstars, and my goal is reach NL10 before the New Year (300$).
For 2022, my dream is building a decent bankroll to take part in WSOP events.

Looks like here are a lot of friendly and fun guys, hope this blog can motivate me follow BR management, strategies, etc., etc.

So here we go! You are very welcome!))

Hi Shkureonak,
I really look forward to seeing how you progress.

Are you doing the bankroll challenge?
See the details here:

Since you're already doing the blog part, why not join the challenge...

All the best,

Hi VorpalF2F!

Thank you.

I think i'll start a challenge, but when 2 conditions will be met. First: when I have a BR of at least 150$, because I'd like to start with NL5 at least. And second when I will be completely sure that I won't deviate from BR management. And this weekend I understood that I still have broblems with tilting...

So what exactly happened. As i metnioned I had a bankroll of 57$. As usual, I sat at a ZoomNL2 on Pokerstars. Unbelievable bad beats happened during almost half an hour. So I lost like 4-5 b.i. Then i thought, hey I need to go NL5 at least to compete the Leaderboard challenge of 300 hands. So I went to NL5. My bad beat streak continued losing another few NL5 buy-ins. So i was left with only 28$ in about 40 minutes. And I made the most retarded and fishy decision, that I allways did. I went with all my bankroll to NL25. :f_thumbsup::f_biggrin::f_biggrin:

You won't believe but I managed in about 10 minutes to earn 350+ BB, so I had like ~100$ at the table. The luckiest stupid attempt of my whole career. Anyway at the end of the day, I was left with only 80$, but hey... I started with 57$ xD

After the weekend, I am 50$ left with... So I can say that it was just a dream... At least I understand that I have problems with psychological part of the game. Untill I am sure I won't do such things again, I think I won't start a challenge...

Maybe I am wrong, and the challenge would help me, what do you think?

Well, at least you got away with your NL25 misadventure this time. :f_grin: Try not to do it again until your bankroll is ready, though. I'm speaking from experience, these kinds of things can really destroy your bankroll, forcing you to either give up or reload, which can be demoralizing. It may sound cliché, but it really is a marathon, not a sprint.

Are you using any kind of tracking software, and if not, have you considered investing in some?

And do you have any concrete bankroll management guidelines, now that we're on the subject?

Hey! glad you visited my blog!

Yeah, mate believe me I know this... I am doing this mistake for years, that's exactly the main reason why I am silver status being registered for more than 10 years on this website. And by the way this kind of actions, I do in my everyday life, not only in poker. And that's why I am where I am... I just can't learn from mistakes, and it looks like I don't want to, otherwise I can't explain why am I doing the same mistake over and over and over and over again, even if I know the outcome... nevermind

Yeah, I use Hand2note for now. But it's kind of useless, because I mainly play Zoom poker and I can't get info about people playing postflop. So i have only VPIP and PFR as a working tool.

What about my bankroll... I want to play NL2 and sometimes The Bounty Builders PKO 2,20$ untill I get 150$. Then i'll play NL5 and will add the 3,30$ version of PKO tourn. untill I reach 300$ to play NL10 and the same tournaments. So basically that's all my plan for now.

I still can't decide between MTT and Cash... Both of them actually do not fit with my "nature". But I feel like i'm more interested and motivated by the MTT's... Hope I will be able to take a decision, because I definitely should choose one discipline. Untill NL10 I think it's pretty much the same play, but after micro limits, you would better learn only one thing at a time.

What do you guys think about it?

Well, it's all just a matter of discipline in the end, and it can be learned. Sometimes we have to learn the hard way.

Your bankroll management for cash seems reasonable, but I'm not sure about the tournaments. MTTs tend to have a lot of variance, I'm not sure if $2.20 tourneys are appropriate right now.

As for similarities between cash and MTT, I don't think it's a matter of limits, but of stack sizes. In deep stack situations, MTTs may play in a similar way to cash, but otherwise, there are some other factors involved due to the limited chips etc. You wouldn't normally play push-or-fold in cash games, would you? Yet in tournaments, you often would.

What do you mean by saying that neither cash games nor MTTs fit with your "nature"?

Yeah I understand, but it happens mostly on weekends, because of the tournaments starting time. So, I think 5$ per week for taking a shot - seems to be pretty comfortable.

Well I am tilting a lot playing Cash games. I understand that everything can happen, I understand that this is poker, but I just want to be mad. I want to scream a bit, to destroy something. To go and reraise my opponent with every hand a couple of times. I just like it xD As for tournaments, I don't have enough patience, I get bored after a few hours if the game does not go well. Also, I get bored very soon if I play more than 2 tournament tables. I lose the connection with poker.

But... everything changes when I go live... I am the most disciplined human on earth. I never get bored, can play 24/7 if it is live poker. Unfortunately it is forbiden in freaking Moldova... So I am stuck online xD

What about you, do you prefer more live or online poker?

Then that should be fine. I thought you were playing them every day as part of your regular grind.

Sounds like single table SNGs would be for you, too bad they're hardly around anymore, having been largely replaced by more popular variants like Spin&Go's and the like. But maybe you can channel some of your discipline from live poker for your online play. The mental game can be learned, practiced and improved just like the technical game can.

Honestly, I have never even played live poker for real money, the few live games I have ever played were just casual. Other than that, it was all online for me.

And by now, I don't even really play Hold'em anymore, I'm almost exclusively a mixed games player.
