Anyway, best of luck and a great end of 2022 for you :f_love:

Was thinking the same.

FriskyArt cmon man. You struggle to beat nl2. This limit could be beat in a month, less if you are lucky. This should ring some bells. You are doing something very wrong and it's up to you to deduce what is it. The most common and likely reason is that you are lazy and not dedicated enough to the game.

but success must come eventually right?

Without effort you wont achieve much.

Hey guys! Yes, it's pretty sad right? The crazy part is that I actually did put in a lot of effort trying to improve. I knew I was an idiot but didn't knew I was THAT big of an idiot, seemingly unable to beat the lowest limits. Maybe I stop limping under the gun with the 6-high-off-suit-three-gappers :f_biggrin: That's a joke obviously but some costly mistakes can't happen any longer.

Thank you for your honest comments! Best wishes for 2023!

You lazy lier :f_biggrin:. You improve nothing. You just whine, mumble and do absolutely nothing.

My dear FriskyArt. Poker is not a game of feelings and hope. Poker is about skill and improvement. Without effort you will achieve nothing. If you are hoping for success you will achieve nothing.

Well, it actually is my business, and I would ask that you read our forum principles and abide by them.

Constructive criticism offers suggestions for improvement. Your comment have recently been mere name-calling.

Best Regards,

My critism is very constructive. FriskyArt will understand it.

suggestions for improvement

Forget it. No suggestions till he shows that he is ready to put effort and stop fooling us around.

I know i am harsh. That's the point. He's a bit out of line so some "verbal slapping" seems okay. Otherwise he will never learn.

Harsh is occasionally fine. Rude is not. If you can't at least be polite, don't bother commenting at all.

Everyone chill out. I fall into the group that doesn't see Napoleons criticisms as harsh or rude. Some of the things he's said I've listened to them and have started applying them to my game, with varying success

Poker is a hard game and a lot of hard work is required, I like how honest he is about it. :truestory:

I thought carefully of what I was going to reply to this because it was a pretty rude comment, however I like to believe you mean well and I love honest advice! You have a weird way of motivating people and the thing is I really did put in a lot of time and effort trying to improve but somehow I didn't succeed so far.

I totally agree that poker is a though game and requires hard work in order to be successful. I'm not sure what went wrong, I might have been focusing on the wrong things and maybe even tried too hard with advanced plays while my standard play is not solid enough. Other times tilt was a major issue so that definitely needs more attention too. Playing for too long also seemed to be doing more harm then good. I fall into a robotic state of play where I fool myself into thinking I will win pots when good cards come but all I do is slowly drain all my chips.

So the plan I have for the next couple of weeks is to play short sessions trying to always bring my best game to the table and focus more on analyzing my play and look for those weak spots.

It should be the opposite. Play more, study less (brick by brick). Practice is the best teacher not theory. If you study too many things and then try to apply them this will have bad effect on your game. Because it will exhaust you quickly and eventually you will collapse mentally.

More wars were started on the wrong words than on the wrong actions.
With that said, I think Napoleon words should hurt anyone less than a buy in burnt on bad plays (even in NL2).

@FriskyArt, study is good. Study is necessary. BUT only by playing you can develop your "poker senses". What I mean by "poker senses" is that, even if your brain isn't poker wired, repetition of situations will force your brain to adapt to them, recognize them and exploit or avoid them. Your day has 24 hours, as anyone's does. if you spend more (or more than you should) time studying and reviewing than playing you are failing to familiarize yourself with the situations.
I completely understand that when one is loosing, it feels safer to study than to play. Play slower, verbalise your thoughts. Don't play tighter, play more conscient.
In the end either if you grind 20bbs/100 over 10k hands, 10bbs/100 over 20k hands or 1bb/100 over 200k hands you'll know you have enough edge on that limit to consider it a safety net (ok, 1bb/100 in NL2 is better than losing, but boy, game will need some work).

I can't stress this enough. Cards have no memory: They don't know your AA was cracked and you now deserve a suck out yourself. They don't know you've been card dead for 2 hours, just take advantage of your image.

GL @ thye tables. May 2023 be your year

This worked for me, and then I slowly built it up to longer sessions. But I keep it at 4 tables, I don't want to switch to "auto pilot"

If I am playing with a mind to study the session later, I play until I have marked 5 hands. That can be 50 hands or 500, depending on how many unusual hands happen — and on what game I'm playing.

The more you become familiar with a game, the longer you'll go between hands you want to study. So start with short sessions, but as you get more comfortable, your sessions will become longer.

Cards have no memory. I like it and I'll remember that the next time I take 2 or more bad beats in a row.

Part of the studying I was already marking hands of which I believe needed attention. Truth is after losing €207 in 12 weeks at NL2 (terrible result I know) while trying my best I pretty well realize what my problem is. There are actually 2 major problems I struggle with which lead to this poor result. The first one is what I said before and I'll say it again there is just almost no more fish anymore. I know a lot of people do not agree when I say this but there's simply no denying that the absolute worst players are gone. I remember times where NL2 played almost like play money. These days are long gone by now. Everybody seems so serious and solid you really have to battle hard for every € 0.01 it's laughable! And that brings me to the absolute number one major problem what caused me to lose so much: tilt! Playing for tiny amounts for hours and hours just to break even, barely beating the rake and then you finally get to set up the perfect trap for villain who you get to play for all his chips when you are a 65-80% favorite, and of course that is the perfect time the pokergods decide he hits that out on the river! After working so hard away from the table, focusing hard on every action on the table to get a good read on the situation and making perfect decisions. Only to end the day once again with a losing session. What kind of zen monk does one need to be not to tilt in such situations? At least I learn and try to look at this experience in a positive way. It's a good lesson for later stages in a hopefully better poker year in 2023 and a good lesson for life in general.

As for the BR Challenge:

BR Challenge 2023 Week 1 (02.01.2023 to 08.01.2023)
Start BR: €123
Last Update BR: €124
Current BR: €106
Result: -$18
Target: €2000

Evaluation:

I made a false start with some big mistakes and we move back at NL2 until we have BR €140 again which is going to be my first step to success for 2023.

*************************
The updated game plan for 2023:
**********************

My main poker challenge remains the same from 2022 even though It's most unlikely I will achieve this goal in 2023 but at least we will be on our way:

Have a BR of €2K at PokerStars starting at NL2. Since it's so complex, uncertain and so many variables that come into play it's nearly impossible to set a time limit to this goal at this moment. It's just something I want to achieve, the sooner the better obviously but I will be very satisfied to just complete it someday.

However, just as the SMART approach suggests the big goal is divided into intermediate goals:

1. Beat NL2 and have BR of €140 (This really shouldn't take too long)
2. Beat NL5 and move up when I have BR of €250
3. Beat NL10 and move up when I have BR of €1000
4. Final step. Beat NL25 and have a BR of €2000

Specific: Starting out with number one: Beat NL2 and have a BR of €140 in order to move up to step 2.

Measuable: Play on average 1hr per day, that's the equivalent of about 75 hands per hour per table. We are only comfortable of playing 2 tables at this point so we aim for 150 hands per day.

Attractive: Considering that about 90% of the players are losing players or break even players at best, being at the top 10% would give me enough confidence and motivation to move up to step 2.

Realistic: Every variable considered a winrate of 10bb/100 would be a great but achievable goal at NL2 in the first part of 2023.

Timed: 1st of may 2023. With an average of 30 cents per day the deadline would be 112 days from now which is 2023-05-01.

This step is considered completed when I reach BR €140 (34 profit starting from today) and then I move up to the next step.

Also we keep working hard away from the table. Studying, analyzing, discussing hands, and the usual. It's pretty f** insane doing all this effort for so little reward but I have to do it and I have to do it like this in order to achieve my long term goal. One day all of this must get me rewarded, I mean it has to be right?! I like to believe that maybe by the end of the year all of this gave me enough experience and a strong foundation to climb faster then others. Either that or maybe poker gets banned by the end of the year and all of this was just a waste of time haha :f_tongue:

Anyway thanks for reading the large post and for all your support. Happy grinding to all!
