but when I use the bar to forward the flv , it stops playing it.

That can be of more reasons.

It can be because the file is damaged. It can also happen with flv files in VLC player, that the movie is not as long as the progress bar shows. Try fast forwarding in smaller steps and see if that helps.

Hope this makes sense.

Yeah usually that happens because the FLV file is damaged - usually because something happened during the download process. Happens quite often if you don't download with a download manager.
