This can't be good for poker in my neck of the woods:

Sophon Sek, 30, of Cloverdale, who won the B.C. Poker Championship on Sunday at the River Rock Casino, appeared in court today on charges of manslaughter and break and enter.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says details of Sek's role in (gang) killings will come out at trial...

Sek won the grand prize of $364,364 from the BC Poker Championships. RCMP have asked the River Rock Casino to hold the prize money for now.

He was part of the slayings that happened in the tower in Surrey, not too far from my house... I am glad that they have continued to investigate this one of the innocent murdered was someone who went to my HS and in matter of fact he was my volleyball coach when I was in grade 8. :f_cry:

On a lighter note nice to see another person from western canada here

Wow that's a little crazy. Gang violence is such bs.

On a separate note I'm from Alberta myself.

Justice should be served no matter who suffers from it.

The poker society in Canada should just stand up and say stuff like: this guy who won the tourney might be a good player but is a bad person and should suffer all the consequences of his former actions. Give him a fair trial and if he is guilty imprison him for the rest of his life and be done with it.

Absolutely , no person , regardless of her function should be punished accordingly for any kind of fellony, especially murder. One has nothing to do with the other. They should donate those money to charity or something.

and yet celebrity's seem to get away with pretty much anything these days.

They find drugs what do they get? they get sent to a rehab instead of jail like a normal person would..

on topic.. kinda sad.. why did he kill the person? sounds weird to kill someone right after you've won a huge tournament though.

Lawl, always in surrey aint it...
