Back To Basics with a $100

__________________________________________________________

I'm back with a $100! Some of you may know me already and alot of you probably don't. Anyway i set myself a goal to reach that magical $100 mark, and that i wouldn't update my blog till i did that. Today i acomplished that.

For those of you that don't know me.

This is the third part of my blog, this was how back to basics was supposed to be. But unfortunately 2 weeks after that i quit poker. I did play a little poker in those 4 months that i had quit. Wasting the little $22 bankroll i had till i was left with a bankroll of $3,83.

23 April the grinding began. Back to the $0,25 45man sng's, My 12 buy in bankroll was more then plenty at this limit. I suffered from several very nasty downswings, they didn't last very long. Only about 50-75 sng's, but it still sucked badly. With my ROI of 100% in those, having a downswing is basicaly breaking even. Here the graph:

Bankroll Start: $3,83

I kept a little log of my winnings and places:

$0,25 45man sng's
1ST : 10
2ND: 8
3RD: 9
4TH: 12
5TH : 3
6TH: 13
7TH: 9

Total games: 222
Cashed: 64
Busted: 158
Percentage cashed: 28,8%
Bankroll start: $3,83
Bankroll end: $58,40
Profit: $54,57
ROI: 98%
Days played: 15
Games/day: 14,8
Profit/day = $3,64

Bankrol after 222 $0,25 45man sng's: 58,40

On that same day, i played in a $100 freeroll. My win also got mentioned in this week's Community Round-up

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Bankroll after freeroll: $77,40

So after the freeroll i started playing $1,40 90man KO sng's, the play is honestly not much better then the $0,25 45man sng's. After playing 14 of them in total in 3 days. With 4-6 tabling. I cashed in 1st, 2nd, 10th and 12th. profit: $28,49. Which is about 145% ROI. I might be on a heater, but i don't think my ROI is very far from this. As when i get a bigstack at the final table, I completely crush them. After i busted in 5 today, and won the last one my bankroll reached the magical $100 mark.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Bankroll on 16-5-2010: $106,44

So if your wondering, Why my Graph drops $20 at the end it's because i played 2 $10 Heads up's vs wuttehhell. And the winner was going to give the money back. Please don't ask how they wen't.. :f_p: So that's why my graph is so messed up right now. So instead of Heater - downswing - heater. It's ONE BIG HEATER. A fish on a heater to be correct :f_love:

I'm also going to make some changes to my blog.

Changes:
:spade: More pictures
:spade: Song of the week
:spade: Random youtube vids
:spade: VOI system
:spade: Update once or twice a week

Goals:

:spade: Practice 200 hands in ICM every day before playing.
:spade: Read poker books and articles.
:spade: Post hands in the hand evaluation forum after every session

Short term goals:
:spade: Get HEM
:spade: Reach $1000 Bankroll before the end of the summer

Long term goals:
:spade: Reach $10k Bankroll before april 2011
:spade: Become a good sng player
:spade: Change from sng's to cash game player
:spade: Become a good tournament player
:spade: Learn Omaha

My version of JuiceQuadre's Voi system for sng's:
-Every read or reread article gives me + 2 VoI
-Every video watched or rewatched gives me +3 VoI
-Every live coaching gives me +5 VoI
-Every hand posted and discussed gives me + 1 VoI
-Every 10 Multi table sng's played gives me + 1VoI
-Every book read gives me +20 VoI

I'm going to start from 0 because it will take a long time figuring out what my current VOI is supposed to be.

Song of the week: I always play this song when i started getting annoyed by bad beats. I just keep it on repeat, and it helps me from tilting. And i also play better.

note: Song of the week will probably not be rock/metal although that is about 80% of the music in my itunes library. It will be mostly old songs from when i was younger and just plain awesome songs

Took me 3 seconds to realise this was a joke... Atleast I think it is??

LOL, it's actualy not. I really like that song

man. that song would put me on an uncontrollable monkey with a down syndrome tilt for as long as my bankroll would last if I would not be sitting out right now.

[x] turns off the poker software

I wont comment much this time. None at all, actually. Except that I kind of liked your long-term goals part where it says "Learn Omaha".

If you want to play Omaha some time in the future, well, start NOW? :)

really, and I REALLY mean - quite a large % of fishy players there. Including me.

haha that song is mad. sounds like old school venga-boys.

Thanks for infecting me with Dum da di do for the rest of the day X(

Hey there.. so you own a 3 digit BR now :P... I'm not much bigger then you atm... wanna race to 200$? :P

@MrEnig I still have alot to learn in Hold'em, and i think it's better to learn it one at a time. So i'm probably going to play sng's till they stop being veryprofitable. Probably around $20 buy ins then switch to NL cash games and then also learn to play PL omaha cash games.

@lessthanthreee LOL venga boys.. now thats old school I recognized all those annoying songs when i looked them up on youtube :f_p:

@personwhoruinedmygraph lol :f_p: just joking, but next time we should do the heads up in play money sng's Don't you have $150 right now? that's quite a lead. I mean if i keep running hot i could win it, but i can just as easily go the other way.

Taking a little break from poker. Just played too much the last few weeks, probably around 3-6 hours a day.. And i'm just sick of poker atm. Also just been playing bad at the 90man KO's and running bad today. So i really need a little break.

Anyway, back in a few days!

You call 3-6 hours/day too much?

I can't sleep if I haden't played at least 3 hours that day lol.

But that's just me ofcourse, you should take a break if you feel you need to. I'll have to take a break too for reasons that are beyond me unfortunatelly :(

wow, I took few beers.. actually not few And this song was kinda nice for me lol :P

P.S
nice graphs you have there. Keep it up dude at bigger stakes!

Not much of an update pokerwise. Playing bad, running bad. Standard variance.. Didn't play that much though. I just watched Rounders and High roller: the stu ungar story. Both pretty interesting. I really liked Rounders and i highly recommend watching it. I didn't feel like the Stu ungar story was very honest though, i think they made him look alot better then he probably was. (not poker wise but with the gambling/drinking/drugs).

wtf sad post dude!

You're a highschool graduate, no job, good poker player.... I'm sure many envy this way of life (I don't cause I'm just like you lol :P)
discipline... who needs it???

I took driving school test today. I knew I'll have to do this since 2 months ago. How much did I have to learn? A book of about 700 pages. Did I learn anything until 3 days ago? Nope ?( Did I pass it? 25 points out of 26 (22 was minimum to pass)

What that wants to illustrate is that we all have our own way like... way of learning, way of having fun, way of seeing life in general. It doesn't mean youre not disciplinate just cause others tell you so. It's your style! You have to do things your way.

I'll stop now cause I already made a new personal record at english mistakes for 1 post lol.

GL mate, and do what you've got to do! _love:

^ Thanks for the inspiring post well kinda.

So a little poker update. Ran like shit, runner runner stuff.. hitting 3-5 outers on the river..

Then finally the last table.. i get some hands.. pick good spots.. play well.. And then i blow it on the final table.. I'm third in chips. I try to blindsteal from the cut off with A-7.. chipleader calls.. 9-7-2 flop. i bet big, he calls. 4 on turn. I check he bets.. and i shove. i had about 20% of my stack in the pot.

But i can't believe why i did that. I could have been heads up so easily. And i really thought he didn't have the 9. I should have thought it over, but i almost instantly reraised him all in. Wasting a potential $20 that i really needed.

He was running like a god the whole time. in 84 hands i saw him flop trips or three of a kind 4 times.. I'm not joking he seriously hit like 80% of the flops.. And although my read on him was that he was a tight player who doesn't bluff. I still felt the need to go all in.. I just couldn't believe someone could run that good.. He went from having 5% of the total chips to 50% by hitting so many cards. It was rediculous. Although he was a TAG, he ran so good i started thinking he was loose agressive.. He went from having 5% of the total chips to 50% by hitting so many cards.

Down about 15 BI now. Hopefully it will go a little better tomorrow. I'm pretty happy about my play overall. Only 2 hands i really regret playing the way i did. But in no limit holdem 1 big mistake is enough to lose it all..

So last table right.. One super agressive player. I'm playing my A game today, only 1 hand i actualy regret. My reads are extremely good today. So i get AA raise preflop the super agressive donkey calls. 10-9-8 flop he/she checks so i check behind. He/she respected my play quite alot, so i didn't think much of it. Another 10 on the turn, a few reraises and im all in. And the player turns over 10-8.. so sick..

So im like breakeven after like 3 hours of playing which sucks so bad. Because i was playing so good, I've actualy never been happier about how i have played after a session. Too bad the results didn't show..

I'm still playing 3 freerolls today.
:spade: $1000 freeroll. players ~4500. Turbo blind levels. Needed to win: Run like a god and hope you have not been doomswitched.
:spade: $100 Freeroll. Players ~350. Slower then normal blind levels. Needed to win: play good
:spade: And another steps freeroll a total of 45 step tickets will be given. you need some luck to make it though.

I'm playing a new strategy in the $1000 freeroll i just shove or fold. Every hand. It's working out well. There just isn't enough room for postflop play.

Two good reads of mine this session.

So i have QQ, Everything going good. I raise preflop and get 2 callers. flop comes 1098. I don't really like it. Although what hands would they call with preflop that would make a straight? QJ ? any good player would not call a 4bb raise preflop with QJ.. Then again these player suck. I think for a while, and lay it down.

Here's another hand. I bet flop and turn pretty standard. I don't like the turn obviously, and he calls me very quickly. It wouldn't have been the first time i had seen people call flop bets with K high. So i check the river to be safe, which maybe was the wrong play here i don't know. So he shoves it all in, and i'm like wtf? I just doesn't make sense that he has a King to play it like that. The blinds are very low so i can easily fold it and still have a decent stack. So i decide to go with my read which was that he didn't have the King and made the call..

I also had my biggest tournament cash yet. I'll make a post about that tomorrow. I'm a bit tired and don't feel like writing a long blog post. (i wrote most of this like 5 hours ago)

Song of the week: It's hard to pick a song, I could post 10 songs every day for a year and then i'd still have songs i didn't post yet. But this time a real old school song.

So this is a song i heard on tv when i was like 5 years old. And it stood the test of time, Because i still like it. It reminds me of times where i didn't have to worry about anything.. Where fish didn't suck out on me on the final table with 10-8 vs my AA *cough* anyway.. here it is.

Me and Justkyle88 have a similar strategy for freerolls. If your hand has an A,K,Q,J,T in then you fold. If it doesn't you open shove regardless of previous action.

dont laugh at it,its a undercover strategy that many "secret" pros use

The shove/fold strategy with big hands (JJ+ AQ+) works really well in freerolls. If you notice people tightening up you can revert to normal play but as long as they're being retarded calling stations you can ship any of the hands above and they'll chip you up.
