Going to Vosges mountains now for 7 days of road cycling. No internet that week so I hope I'll come back home with a fresh mindset.

I was thinking about that a long time but I decided not to do it, just one public coaching a month (for dutch community).
So I'm back from Vosges mountains. Had a wonderful week, cliffs:
- Cycled a lot: I'm in pretty good shape atm, hopefully this power will reflect in poker as well
- No problem with having no internet for a week ![]()
- Read a lot: especially lots (2 :P) of investment books and a PLO book of Hwang (feeling like playing this game again).
- Owned in risk
- American movies/series dubbed in French are shit
Yesterday I realized that its been a long time since I made some decent money with poker. I think that I only made like 9k the last 3 months with my hourly that is actually really lame/lazy. Mostly because I travelled too much + had this thesis going on, so I decided to go in lockdown mode this week. Also my hourly during this period isnt so high, so I want to find out if I got so much worse/games got a lot tougher/etc.
Starting now, I will try to make $10k before the next sunday night.
I will play rush nl200, maybe 400 if I feel ready.
I know monitary goals arent great but I just need some motivation to grind a lot now. Also I know that I'm pretty rational concerning these things so it won't affect my game.
After this week I'll make a big post about my future goals in poker/life because after graduation I get so much more responsibilities now. I need to sort lots of things out for government etc.
Anyways, first update tonight before bed time.
g0g0g0g0g0 ship teh moniiiiez
its my last week before travelling again, so i guess i will also be in lockdown mode most of the time.

Day 1: Bad start

Rake: $686.6
Profit: $504.2+$185.22=$689.42
The first day didnt go as planned but that is what happens in poker. I feel I played good but definately not my best game. I also had lots of setup/cooler situations that weren't in my favor. Although if results keep this way, I'll need to refind my game asap.
Things I need to work on:
- When you are doubting between fold/call/raise, call is in many cases the worst option, yet I do it too often
- NonSD are really plummeting nowadays where they were be few months ago.
--> I think I create too much agressive dead money and float too often, this way I always have pretty weak ranges on turn/river
--> maybe not vbetting enough? This was one of my strongest points but I feel that in some spots I check behind too often atm
- Play better in 3bet pots with semi-premiums hands oop, when bu 3bet otherwise just 4bet/fold
- Try to limit 3betting in the blinds and increase it ip.
- Play less oop in general (sc out of the blinds)
- Pay more attention to spots where I have a good hand and get too many folds of my opponents and where I have bad hands and get too many calls and balance this spots better.
Gonna quit for today and try to get up early (in my terms).
Cheers

Opponent is very agressive, 10%3bet IP and AF of 6.0. Sample size is small I realize now, just 280 hands.
Preflop is std against this opp, not enough dynamics to go for a 4bet. Flopcall is also kinda std but I turn my hand face up.On turn my opponent polarizes his range to 4 combos, QQ/KK. Given his wide 3bet range + high AF + the face upness of my hand I decided to call down. I think with a higher sample and some dynamics its a valid option but in this case I think its a fold. Also on the river he tankshoved reducing his range to QQ, cause I think KK shoves faster. QQ might even cb sometimes because there are very few hands he beats that will call the shove.
Given that my range is like AK only, its tough because this hand can not call a riverbet, so it would be a nice 3barrel bluff spot. I would probably also play QQ+ differently so. Interesting hand that made the diff between $500 or $1700, unfortunately its the first one.
hey, gl in ur challenge, i dont like it at all, but gl ![]()
abt the AK hand: R is a SNAP fold.
1 thing is u think its a good 3barell bluff spot - its not - honestly, when have u last time seen 200bb bet on this board as a bluff (esp FR)? i would be counting on fingers of 1 hand even on higher lims.. Other thing: whats his pf 3bet and 3barell bluffing range?
QQ+, A2, JT which got there and some fd's which didnt, but: u have A
making it impossible for him to have a nut fd, and lets face it: who would on this limit turn tp hand into a bluff?! same goes for lower fd's: agro lags usually call with scs and 3bet ip more of a bw/small A2s, K4, Q7s hands- Q
is on the board as well, so he cannot have those. K
combos are rly like the only ones, but how many are those? and how many does he honestly turn to bluff on R where he might have still easily had the best hand on T?
overall i think pretty much anyone's ratio for bluff/value here esp FR is going to be like 1:50. and i am positive. Big problem is ur PF range also, given he is an agro he should vbet any 2x like this coz he cannot rly put u on fhs (like i found out lately ppl on these lims have weird fetishes for hands like 23s, Ivan can confirm
) so u dont beat close to no valuehand either. The rare AQ i doubt is betting that big on T if at all, would be tempted to potcontrol this deep.
Thx TLN for the answer.
I knew you weren't going to like the challenge but yeah I have been thinking a lot about my poker goals in general. It shifts a lot between trying to be the best or just making money and have other goals in life. Mostly its like 25/75 so probably I should just go for the latter options but as said, bigger update on this next week.
About the hand: I reckon that its a fold but I dont agree on his valuerange here. FR regulars on this limit are very scared to vbet this deep. I'm 90% sure he will just check behind turn here with A2 because they are afraid that i go for a c/r with QQ/KK cause that is still pretty hard in my range, I wont c/r F all the time with that. Also AA will 100% check behind T (prob even 85% cb on F).
You had a valid point with the As in my hand, this reduces a LOT of his bluffing range which I didnt see.
Thx for the input anyways.
Going to start some tables now
Can't help but notice your red line is way below , is it a leak or is it acceptable ?
Well ofc I can't know that for sure but let me put it this way.
Most of the fr regulars (especially nl25-100) have a decreasing non sd line. This is because they are way too nitty and passive. They wait for the nuts so they lose a lot on blindstealing, raising cbets etc. Their blue line is poorly as well because people dont pay them off often.
Other regulars try to balance a bit more and thus 3bet more preflop, raise some cbets. But they dont overdo this, yet their non sd line can perfectly be be. Their blue line still isnt high because their ranges are still weighted towards the nuts.
My style is different. I am very active postflop. C/r flops, raising cbets, floating flop to bet T, sometimes even float F and T to raise river etc. So my ranges are weighted towards air. Because of this my red line is declining because I put a lot of money in the pot with marginal hands and thus have to fold by big resistance on T or R. Benefits of this style is that you get paid off very easily with good hands as well. To illustrate a hand that occurred today:

Against other players he will snapfold AA to a c/r on this F, but against me he decided to look me up light.
So it is always a balance between the two and I think I am a bit spewy sometimes so it might be a leak but still the reason is different to what most people think.
Hope this clarifies it a bit.
Note to self: I think it should be good that I just play some nitty style now till people adjust and then play this style again. But its hard for me not to float when I have a bdsd or bdfd :).
Small lunchbreak now and back to tha grind!

are u sure? .. just that this is not costing u a ton of money vs lags.. 10% 3bet is decent even for SH. I can estimate that range pretty closely and totally disagree on what u said. I am confident he alw bets (if good) anything stronger than (close to alw including) AK for value on both F&T.
i dont believe u just flat oop KK/QQ .. so pf, i assume (hope) u dont have it there more than a third of the time. So on F its then 2 combos realistically. Compared to AK which is there 12 combos, and this is much more heavily in ur range coz ppl in FR play it like this like always. Or u want to tell me u have 4bet v range here vs his 10% just AA?! 90% u should be 4betvbetting there AK as well, and QQ+ for shua - ofc to balance with corresponding no. of 4bet bluffs-how can u ever 4bet bluff here when u just 4bet AA and sometimes KK???. Ofc if he 5bet jams its a different question what u call off with, but u abs cannot have u re 4bet vrange just ur 5bett calling a ship range (he is ip calling ur 4bet with bunch of stuff when good and u re getting a ton of value) - this is just so unbalaced regarding game theory, any reg paying attention on higher lim will abuse u like hell.
I'm quite sure on the first point. There are almost zero good lags on this limit. People I refer too just 3bet a lot and raise some flops and bluff with a good rate. But they mostly dont have a clue in which spots its ok or which not. So I'm pretty sure I wont get abused in such spots.
True that I probably dont 4bet enough but I believe that I just dont see people flatting there too often. If I 4bet there most likely action is just to fold/shove meaning that their range is pretty unbalanced, so it is actually a pretty good spot to bluff.
Against the good regs (esp on 400) I indeed 4bet AK/QQ+ for value in this spot but on this limit I don't do it because people are so unbalanced. If they have air they just fold to my 4bet. I also dont 4bet at all for value against these guys. I play with JJ+/AK against there crap. This is ofc heavy dependable on opp types and maybe I should just leave nl200 for this cause it might hurt my tought processes. Lots of regulars dont take balanced decisions so this results in me being unbalanced as well, but it isnt needed against them so.
