Definitely not! i couldn't imagine playing cards professionally, the downswings you'd go through would be just too painful. I think i much prefer to study and get a solid career and just play poker tournaments where you aren't at risk of running up massive losses

I think if you're approaching the game with the attitude that "you're able to lose a lot of money", you shouldn't play at all

I am lazy enough that only having to travel from my bedroom to my computer and playing a few hours of poker is appealing.

Depending on the country you live, persons you have to support, savings for your retirements, social insurance, rent, car, etc etc. and downswings. Just some thoughts:

say for fixed limit 1 BB/100, 200 hands/hr, 4..6 hours a day (you have to learn the rest of the time) = 1000 hands per day = 10 BB per day
220 working days (yes you will be sick, tired sometime, want to make vacations and relax) makes it to 2200 BB per year.

so if you need $40000 per year your limit would be 10/20.
If you can play more hands, then maybe 5/10, but below I wouldn't say you can live in a country except developing countries where everything is cheap.

And you need a 1000 BB bankroll and must put aside money as well.

Btw, I am wondering why the microlimits are not flooded with TAG people from India/China etc where $500 is a very good monthly income. Maybe this will come in 2 ..5 years when they have internet more widely available. Then it will be even harder competition on the micros.

I need to be making over 20 € per hour on average, 8 hours a day then to beat a normal job financially, maybe even a little more considering it feels like a lonely job to me and you're income is variable. So let's say anything over 30 $ per hour is an acceptable wage to be pro for me...

That means on NL400 I'd need 7.5BB/h or NL1000 I'd need 3BB/hr.

yes i can imagine to be a pro, and I do imagine too. Otherwise you can never make it, I also hope i get a dealerjob, i applied at a casino, that might give me the 40/week extra that can do it. Plus, it earns great.
