I don't think the dumbbells are required, but pushups + jogging is fine. Also doing planks, holding basic freezes for 30 seconds, bench dips, sit ups, handstands and doing footwork drills is probably all the strength training you need. It will help you get in shape as well. A balanced diet, enough rest and consistency are the key to success in breaking. Practising every day at least 1,5 hours a day + jogging (if you're serious/wat to get really good, you should ramp it up to 3-5 hours a day + jogging) and progress will come... Not sure what exactly you like in breaking/bboying/breakdance (whatever you prefer to call it), but make sure you practise everything... uprock, footwork, powermoves, freezes, combos... Just listen to the music and let your body follow it, that is the whole point of it. You will understand this in a few years if you're serious about it. If you aren't and just want this as a hobby/to show off, then you don't need all this... Learing certain good looking moves isn't that hard/does't take that much effort. Being good/great does though.

thanks for the advice, but unfortunately I can't practice as:

1) I have yet to learn any!

2) I have nobody to teach me as of yet.

until this changes, I'm just doing preperation.

there's no crew's in my area :(

also interested in popping and locking :)

It's kind of hard that way :(. But besides youtube tutorial, here're some useful links with guides etc:

You were gone?

cwalking is also pretty cool too - a nice thing to have in your arsenal because you never know what you want to go into:

and like Schnitzelfisch said, learning both toprock (i thought it was this, not uprock) and footwork are really important. I know a guy who can power but has no way of getting into them, he just shows them off one by one (which is pretty lame).

Also, find other people who want to learn - its really difficult learning by yourself. and kinda boring too.

uprocking is pretty damn useful for battles ;). but of course toprocking is a basic... ad as for the powerheads... well, if they enjoy doing it, they should, they just shouldn't expect to win many battles apart from powermove ones. style is everything...
