Well it makes sense. Btw do you table select? If you do, then decision is easy just join a 60$ when a fish is playing, that's what I do now that I'm MSSing FT NL100 shallow tables. If I see fishes on 1/2 I join and one or two tables togheter with my regular ones are not such a shock monetary or psichologicaly wise.
sounds like a good plan to me tim.
fwiw, i was achieving a higher $/hr under a stake due to rakeback and my attainable ROI.

This is so British. You're like a gentleman athlete in 1905. 'Training? My god sir! That's cheating!' Get yourself a stake and some coaching.

I am the same
And I feel like if I would get a coaching I would feel lik e a failure... (not to mention staking...) Even though, Tim, in ur shoes it might be qutie a good idea to get a stake TBH
Got to do what you're comfortable with but fwiw I found that staking really took off the pressure of stepping up. I'm obviously not playing anywhere near as high as you and I've always been quite nitty but still it prevented the stepping up/dropping down repeatedly - just play x amount of games and settle up then you've had a taste for half the price. I guess if you're disciplined enough though that doing it alone gives a much better sense of achievement (and more $'s obv if you're winning!).
if you can achieve the same ROI on the 60s. then you are better off with 50% backing because of the rakeback effect.
if you can achieve a slightly lower ROI you will need to take a higher % of your action on the 60s to give yourself a higher $/hr.
For example you can create a new 'limit' through a backer, by selling 25% of your action. you essentially create a $45 limit. I just did some quick maths for you Tim.
45*4% = 1.8
36*5% = 1.8
So for a 1% reduction in your expected ROI you are better off with a 25% backer (remembering the rakeback effect is added plus intangible effects like experience).
But if your expected ROI is 2%
then you are better off staying at the 36s entirely, because even if you only sell 5% you are still earning less per game compared to the 36s with 100% of your own action.
Hope that makes sense, but thats how I decide whether I need backing and how much. You also have to consider some emotional things, like will you be able to attain those ROIs you estimated? Will you be scared money and play bad?
For some people a backer is more pressure because its not their own money, which can mean a lot of emotional and psychological issues (obviously bad for your game).

Now, if I could have worked this out by myself, I would probably be good enough not to need a backer. ♦
Anyway, very convincing argument - thankyou! Idea of creating a new limit by taking part backing is v interesting. By selling 33.3% action, I create $40 SnG which is only slightly higher than current limit. I anticipate losing not more than 2% off my ROI @ $60s. Will give this some more thought...

Yeah, very Chariots of Fire.
Anyway, this month has got off to a good start. 120 games. 6.3% EV (19.7% real). Graph below.

Kind of embarrassed about this but...

... shows my progress for the first 3 playing days of this poker month. However much I get pummelled by variance in the future, I could not be more happy with the move to tournaments...
I now have 105BI for the next limit so will probably gently dip my toes in to see what the water is like. Probably still look to organise staking unless they go awesomely well, since the reasons in favour (discussed above) are pretty compelling.
As is traditional (Liar Dice – When to Move Up?), I will post a screenshot of first shipped $60. Hope I don't have to wait too long for it.
Took three bites at the cherry. Play at this limit pretty woeful. Villain 3b jamming 67s HU vs me as unknown for 30bb... RoI 19.2% after huge 3 tourney sample. ![]()
Screen print as promised. Ship it!

Going out for a Thali (Indian set meal) at new place with wife and child in an hour or so. Feeling tired but happy. Prolly sink a cerveza or two.
GLATT

p.s. 3 posts in a day probably sufficient. You'll hear no more from me until next week I promise.
Don't waste all your profit on Thali. ![]()
When I first got it at some fast food Indian restaurant, having no idea what I ordered, it was in two separate plates and I kindly returned one of them thinking it wasn't mine. ♠_confused:
congrats tim. its so nice to see you happy after months of struggling in the ring games. it won't always be like this, so remember to keep grounded.

Also, I have this sizeable chip on my shoulder (heaven knows why) whereby it's really important to me to prove that I can do something by myself.
Nice to read that I'm not the only one who feels like this ![]()
I have nothing against getting coaching or letting other people help me with my games. It's just getting staked and playing with other people's money that feels really weird to me, I'm worried that it would affect my play. Maybe to the better, prolly for the worst.
I think that you can beat the 60's (based on the results I see posted here). You are a little nitty about moving up IMO, if you have a drop down limit of two buy-ins (you move down if you lose two buy-ins) you can start taking shots with a much smaller bankroll imo.
Ofcourse that's just my opinion and its different for everyone. You should definatly do what feels best to you. GL on the 60's man
Thats true, if u not a pro
But when u have to suppply ur family and stuff liek that w ur poker income, u ahve to have a lot bigger BRM
fwiw tim, i have no doubt in my mind that you are a winner on the 119s. but you can enjoy healthy 2k swings daily in those games.

"2k swings"??? Zomg, not much healthy about that.... ![]()
Had a good overnight rest after our meal and feel fighting fit today. Just prepared Ropa Vieja, lit. "Old Clothes" which is a Cuban dish of flank steak slow cooked until it falls apart like shreds of...old clothes. Was thinking how cool it is that on a Monday morning while all of London fights to get on the same tube train, I'm out in the Gloucestershire countryside (-ish) cooking dinner before the day's work starts.
congrats tim. its so nice to see you happy after months of struggling in the ring games. it won't always be like this, so remember to keep grounded.
My thoughts exactly. So easy to let imagination run away with you when you make $1,000 in two and a half day's work. But I need to think back to a few months ago, when I played like 150 hours in a month and at the end of it had lost money. Fickle mistress, poker. (Or, as <3 says a "cruel mistress" - but we won't get into his fantasy life here).
The water in the $60s is luke warm. 13 games, ROI -2.7%, EV 4.6%
Games felt really tough and slow all day today... Wanted to play more $60s but all morning was reg-filled and I'm not going to fall back into the trap of playing a "target" limit regardless of game quality. I'd rather have an easy time on the $20s and $30s than claw tooth and nail for 1-2% ROI on the limits above.
Amazed to see the enthusiasm of 5 regs all trying to suck the flesh off one poor fish, as if that could ever cover the rake...
Anyway, a late rally turned things round this evening as things sofened up:

Still running beautifully so I just got to keep filling the larder with dollars before winter sets in.
O&O,

You are soooo right. I one-tabled 3 in a row. Complete with furrowed brow and everything.
Yeah, I remember that comment (like most of mine, made without any basis in fact or experience) ♦
