Introduction
Howiyas PokerStrategy!
Firstly who am I and why am I taking up your time with my ramblings? I am FireFly, and I hail from Dublin, Ireland. I'm a 19 year old, computer scientist, and obviously a poker player! My goal with this blog is for motivation. I have found that when ever I do anything, that only I see the results of, I do it poorly, but when I do something where people see the results, I put effort in.
Basically I have got my $50 starting capital, and after a series of bad beats and general poor play, on my part, I was down to 25$ish. After a good two days of play I'm back around the 45$ mark, after a week break to calm down I might add. I was seriously close to just taking it all in one hand on like 1/2$ blinds :P. Essentially this blog is to keep me on the straight and narrow, be that nagging voice in the back of my mind going "hey remember someone else will see this result!".
Anywho, I have been playing poker for 5 years nearly, and I don't think I am too bad (I'm in the black anyway). I much prefer live play over online, but I am getting better at online ^_^.
How I got into poker
Once upon a time, there was a younger FireFly, and one of his friends suggested to play poker. Said friend had played before and was much better, so he took FireFly's money along with the rest of FireFly's friends. After a year and a half of losing, but having fun, I finally won my first game. That is when younger FireFly said "Wait a minute! That's 30€ worth of 30€". From that day I have taken poker much more serious, and my bank account has enjoyed it. Now I'm talking about 5€ friendly games with friends, but a game every week, winning 30€ every other week adds up.
Then I went to college, played poker with my college poker society, and managed to win the first game I played, beating a field of 35ish people taking a nice 150€ prize. Long story short, while I began taking poker seriously against my friend I never thought I would actually be able to hold my own against people I've never played with, who know how to play poker, and play it well. I feel I have improved massively since I started college, that maybe, with a little push in the right direction and some motivation I can actually make some cash out of poker.
Final thoughts
I know it must sound like I'm going "I'm great!", but really I know, while I'm not bad, I have a long long road ahead of me to start winning some serious cash. So yeah this blog, and I do hope you join me in my endeavorers, will hopefully be the beginning of something good for me. As I said above, if I am unmotivated I put in a poor effort, here's hoping this blog will keep me motivated!
Bai!
