Nice thread! I'm also learning PLO for fun and this really helped me get the basic understanding. Looking forward for more of basic postflop strategy.

Of course if the pot is heads up with him. But if he is on our left, then usually 3way pots mean that we have position to that 3rd player.Against calling stations you valuebet the max s**t out of your strong hands, and forget about bluffing or fancy playing. If the opponent is classical calling station who doesn't bet or raise anything but the nuts (and usually not even those) you don't need position.
But table selection is important. And in micros there are usually lots of available tables. If you have a LAG player in your table and you are not comfortable playing against him, then leave. And as blackops said, if you are deep staked with opponent and in oop, leave. This is something that I have said numerous times in my coachings, you have to know where your money comes from in the table. If you don't know, then leave. There are do "honour" or "pride" in tables. If LAG hammers the table and you don't want to flip with him, then don't. You don't HAVE to stay in the table.

Well it depends on the field, but in William Hill it happens all the time... a CS is sitting to my right, I never manage to buy the button from the CO. The problem is that there are many tricky/aggro loose players too who will always call PF and bet full pot on almost 100% of the flops. When we don't have position on them and don't hit the flop in any reasonable manner, it becomes difficult to play.
When the reverend who is going to be marrying you describes your wedding rings as the rings of doom should you take that as a sign?
Everytime i check this blog there is more and more great content but its so hard finding the energy to put it into practise when ive been working 12 hour days. fml.
One thing i dont get, 1.3k views and no thumbs up? ♠_cool:

LOL Results-oriented!
Once thing came to me now... are you guys having reasonable success with floats and bluff raises at your stakes?
I mean... you are HU IP, there are 2 spades on board, you call, a 3rd spade hits the turn, guy checks, you bet 3/4 pot with air and he folds. That's a float.
Flop comes 743, you check, guy bets pot, you raise 2.5x his bet size with nothing, he folds. That's a bluff-raise.
Tell the stakes and the room in which you play.
Ive been playing at stars and everest when ive had time not many hands at everest though so i cant really tell you about that but at stars the majority of people fold to any aggression unless they are holding the nuts so far ive found it pretty easy to mark the players who are too tight and to loose helping me make some easier decisions ive only come accross 3 or 4 people that seem to have a clue what they are doing.
I think the answer to your questions is very opponent dependent i mean the other day i had this one guy on my left who would call EVERY time i opened from BU then would donk out pot size on flop then he check folded 100% of turns he was a crazy fish but ended up leaving when the same guy stacked him 3 hands in a row ![]()
Im certainly not finding any middle ground with the fish they are either really passive or just call down with top pair+ and the decent players i just try to stay out their way as much as possible
wow this is probably the most plo discussion i've ever seen on these forums ever, really interesting stuff! Looking forward to seeing more of this talk in the skype group.

Hey adamjjj
Thanks for dropping by hope you're enjoying the blog
im afraid i cant give you many updates myself yet im working 4am-3pm and then planning a wedding inbetween atm finding it really hard to find time to play but im enjoying the discussions hopefully it lives up to the hype when i get some free time back and can put in some volume.
Have you been playing plo long?
Somebody should start bragging and saying he had a bad beat and that now he has suicidal tendencies so we could analyze his hands, talk about mindset and, basically, put here some strategies that are exactly those he is not implementing at his game.
That's how the best discussions are born in any forum. Start crying guys... anybody?

Ahh yeah real life has a habit of getting in the way of poker. I moved over to PLO in December last year, but I've never really put in a great deal of volume which is basically down to been a loosing player. It's quite hard to put in volume when your bleeding stack after stack lol.
However after a break i have come back and my graph seems to be steadily going upwards for the first time so i'm ready to start playing and studying again :f_biggrin:.
I definatly think with this new group of players talking about the game its going to help us all alot.

yeah please do everyone post hands i will join you once im an "honest man"
I think the bets ok from my little exp people are folding to most bets there on PLO4 wouldnt matter if you bet .30 or pot i dont see the point in checking most fish prefer to check/call with their trash rather than bluff so i dont think you could have got much more value from that hand.
But ive only played about 1k hands altogether so lets see what others say
(first time ive discussed a hand HEM or omaha
)

I'd check here with the Royal Flush... We want to give someone who might have a set, for example, to fill up or some of the opponents to stab this pot.
The worst thing about the RF is that somebody is going to need a T-high flush and the willingness to pay us off with this, which doesn't happen all that often.
OMFG had an awful session today... got 96-hit combo bad beats, one after the other, sometimes altogether. Kicked the door, punched the table, put a pillow on my face and screamed until I had no voice and...
Felt better. I played a little bit more and managed to go from -4BI to -2BI... ♠_biggrin:
Nice blog sir, will be sure to follow, enjoying the strategy discussed so far as i am a PLO10 noob myself, keep it up & best wishes with the wedding
Thanks Danny much appreciated
hope you check out the blog regularly the more the merrier post some hands too, speaking of which i have PT3 omaha now so expect some hands to be posted as soon as i get a chance to play
So I've been reading some pretty interesting strategy for PLO in those last few days and I could share it here. It is nice for me because it acts as a study summary, as well as some contribution to you.
There are some exploitation techniques that may be useful for us from PLO25 and on, I think. Would you be interested? I'm not developing into the subject if you guys are not reading! ♠_biggrin:
There are basically two approaches for exploitation, and both of them have their efficiency optmized if we are playing in position and in short-handed pots (those that involve 3 or fewer players at the same time). Here they go:
1. Small Ball or LAP (loose-passive) approach: We can smooth call a players PF open-raise when in position in order to try to play heads up with him and then make some moves post-flop that might secure us the pot (floats and 3-bet bluffs/semi-bluffs).
2. PF 3-bet or LAG (loose-aggressive) approach: We can as well 3-bet someone's PF open-raise when in position in order to make moves post-flop and secure the pot. This can be done with two aims in mind:
2.1 Pump-and-Shove: We 3-bet villain PF with the intention of creating a situation of small SPR (stack to pot ratio) in which we have just one or two pot size bets left and are able to shove the rest of our stacks in case we hit the flop with any reasonable draws.
2.2 Isolation Play: This one is very known to NLHE players and consists in 3-betting someone PF with the intention of playing him HU and exploit his tendencies rather than simply playing our hand's pot equity.
Both approaches demand some kind of history with the opponent and are, thus, very selective and should not be applied at random. They allow us to play at another level in which we are not as much inclined to hit the flop hard in order to continue playing the hand, but rather we are enabled to play a wider range of hands from virtually any position that might give us the advantage over the opponent. What we are looking after is to play his tendencies on a wide variety of flops that are not likely of having hit his range very well and use our positional advantage to pressure him to fold after the flop and give up the pot.
Sounds too basic? I did not find any references to this in our articles archive, though. Those two approaches can be extensely developed and we might do this here if you guys want!
About the Royal flush thingie:
I'd check here with the Royal Flush... We want to give someone who might have a set, for example, to fill up or some of the opponents to stab this pot.
No, that is why we bet here, because no set will ever fold here. 3 streets of value > no value
Lower flush calls, set calls, maybe a straight calls if no one calls before him.
Nice bet size because its a family pot. In HU pot i'd def bet smaller.
Nice hand. Good luck in this sick game. Would love to play some too but played HU4ROLLZ vs FBI @FTP, lost in first hand - royal flush vs we flush your money down the drain in the name of the law

I don't have much to add yet but I'll be definitely be reading.
This thread is the best.
PokerStars - $0.02 PL Hi (9 max) - Omaha - 7 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3
MP: $6.39
CO: $5.81
BTN: $1.19
SB: $0.60
Hero (BB): $2.00
UTG: $1.67
UTG+1: $15.17
SB posts SB $0.01, Hero posts BB $0.02
Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero has A♦ 6♥ 8♠ A♥
UTG raises to $0.06, fold, fold, fold, BTN calls $0.06, SB calls $0.05, Hero raises to $0.24, UTG calls $0.18, fold, fold
Flop: ($0.60, 2 players) T♣ 9♠ 7♠
Hero bets $0.30, UTG calls $0.30
Turn: ($1.20, 2 players) Q♠
Hero bets $1.15, UTG calls $1.13 and is all-in
River: ($3.46, 2 players) J♦
So first hand of many to look at, things to tell you about villain: not alot lol only had a few hands on him maybe 50 but he was limping A LOT of hands and was also calling any bet on any flop then folding to a 2nd barrel 80-90% of the time, not playing full stacked so from the few hands id been with him i could start to assume he didnt really know how to play very well.
Il post my thoughts after you guys have discussed a bit i dont think this is too much of a tricky spot just nice to get some talking going.
Also here is me after a long day at work with my baby boy ![]()

Also if anyone is reading this and thinks our own pokerstrategy series of poker with actual winners bracelets is a good idea could you show your support for the idea and post in This thread here please Would be great to see this happen imo Cheers everyone for reading
