KK - Folding Preflop

Folding KK Preflop???

There have been very many arguments in poker forums over the fact, if you can fold pocket Kings in Preflop or not, I'll write a short summary about my opinion of that. My opinion - there are situations, where KK in Preflop is an easy fold. Why?

"You can never fold KK preflop."

"Folding KK preflop is a huge mistake."

and so on, are these sentences familiar?? I have been hearing these sentences countless times, but never it has been explained more specifically, there is always some hazy wheeze, that it's such a strong card and he might have AK and so on.

In case of a shorthanded game, I'm not so certain about myself, but in fullring there is no doubt, that there will occure situations, where is right desicion to fold KK Preflop, thus all my statements go for FR.

I'll bring an example from real life, which hand I recently had:

I raise UTG with KK, the next player 3bets me, and SB cold 4bets. Me and cold 4bettor have a bit over 100bb, 3bettor 100bb, all winning regs.

The first 3bettor is 21/13 3bet 7,1% sample 8300 hands!!! 3bet EP 0,8%!!!
In this case - a sample enough to believe

Cold 4bettor is 18/13 4bet 1,2% for 12 500 hands! Again a sample enough.

It's an easy fold, since the first players' rannge is 0,8% and the other players' range is 1,2%, here we can greatly reduce the second players' range becuase he:
Cold 4bets, this is always stronger than a so-called "usual" 4bet
He 4bets against 2 opponents, both are UTG - with a strong range, the second players' range is still very strong, so this 4bet is here 0% bluff, KK+ always.

Let's open our old friend Pokerstove and type there:

KK (us)
0,8%, only AA/KK is 0,9%, since on combination of KK is in our hands, then there is left excactly 0,8%
1,2% AA/KK and AKs is excactly 1,2% but we could actually reduce this range more bravely a bit, because he hardly every time here would make a 4bet with AKs against this kind of action.

The result:

8.5%
54.3%%
37.2%

I think, that this all should say how EASY fold is KK Preflop in this situation.

To here call/shove the situation we must hope, that one has QQ and other AK,
KK 55.7%
QQ 18.3%
AKs/AKo 26%

Thus, in the given situation we in principle flip, and this range really is the weakest what to possibly give them, but I'm sure that this happy you're maybe max 1 time of 50, in the remaining situation, you'll just make [x]setup, but actually donate 100bb+ what could easily be saved.

More situations, where to seriously think about folding KK Preflop:

If you're deepstack (200bb+), then never go all-in preflop against an any in some way thinking player (of course,in case of the adequate game dynamics, the villain is in tilt and so on don't go under this) you can call if he 3bets you and play postflop, but be ready to give up quickly also postflop. If you're OOP and he raises, then I often just call, even don't 3bet, because he calls very lightly your 3bets thanks to good odds and very difficult is to play then OOP your KK.

There is an super nit against you

When decent sample if 4bet is 1% and there is no situation BTN/SB/BB

In general I recommend against UTG for example to try just calling strategy, this means not even 3betting.
In an usual FR game you just isolate yourself against a too strong range. And there always may happen, that someone squeezes you from the back.

For 2bb/100 winner this means 100bb 5000hands, on an average it is played on 9 tables, which is 500hands per hour, this makes then 10 hours. In one this kind of situation you are waisting your valuable time, only because that everywhere there is written, "never fold KK preflop" - FUCK YOU"

i completly agree
