Few weeks ago after watching some videos and analyzing my game i decided to open up a bit my early stage play. Was not such a huge change, but i like to play my suited broadway cards, pairs and suited connectors from late position, making some more isolation steals against limpers, etc.
I think the change had a positive impact on my EV, but i figured out it also has some disadvantages. I don't mean that with more hands you can get into more trouble (especially, because my post flop play sucks
), but sometimes i see the following happening: I play a few hands with non premium cards and i win some nice pots (hitting a set, making a cbet and winning an average pot, doubling up after hitting 2 pairs, etc...) and BAMM i have the invincible feeling like it's impossible for me to loose a pot. ♠_cool: This leads to even looser play, many steals, even some bluffs pre- and postflop and sometimes i see myself making such stupid moves.
So my new solution is to keep repeating: just play tight, just play tight, just play tight, like a mantra and fortunately it helps in most cases
The problem is that first i have to realize i am on tilt, which is not always that easy.
So my suggestion to myself and others: from time to time, especially in the early and middle stages ask yourself this question: how is my game now compared to my standard A game? For me, when i can do this every 3-5 minutes, it helps to avoid the big mistakes resulting from my stupid overconfidence.
Some short updates about June: it's break even so far, but in the last few sessions i managed to play my best game, so i am happy. I am pretty sure i won't accomplish my goals though, cannot put in enough volume ♠_cry:
Anyway, i still try to play around 400-500 SNGs before i leave to a music festival to the countryside.
That's it for today, be good!
