pokers a great game and i find it really fun and entertaining sometimes, however even though i think i have alot of potential to become a great player, realistically i have to realise that i cant make a living just off poker.

for starters you need a fairly large bankroll to start out just to even make the amount of money that would be needed to live off.

secondly what about variance/getting unlucky. i would have to have amazing faith in my ability to play consistently at a high level to put it all on the line like that.

thirdly gambling is addictive and you should never bet what you can't afford to lose and certainly playing like this is very risky and unless your loaded already then its deffo not a good idea. :f_cry:

Its possible to build up a bank roll, rather than starting with one. Its a big mistake to 'put it all on the line'. If you follow good bankroll management rules you won't be doing this. Instead you are playing with what you can afford to lose, and the risk of ruin is very low. If you feel like you are putting it all on the line you are playing too high.

My answer to your final point is the same - its only 'extremely risky' if you are not following strict bankroll management guidelines. I didn't start playing 5/T limit until I had $5k in my bankroll. I could have lost it all with that roll, but the risk is really small. If I had dropped a lot of BB I would just have dropped down stakes. The same principles apply to high stakes games.
