My goals in 2012 are to challenge myself really hard..
I had a pretty big downswing in last few months but I also played bad ...

So my goals :

1- Beat NL 1K
2- Study game theory because I really suck at that (equity, odds, etc)
3- Watch a lot of videos from differents coaches and maybe get 1-2 coach in the year to work on some aspects of my game

It should be a pretty fun year !

:diamond: First and foremost, in 2012 I want to be able to say that I enjoy poker as much as I did in 2011. And that is A LOT.
:diamond: Keep working on my skills and my mindset. I'd like to be able to say that I have a Poker Pro's mindset. And not just any poker pro, but TwiceT, if possible
:diamond: Stop procrastinating. It's killing me.
:diamond: When it comes to skills, my game of choice for 2012 will be HU SNGs. Goal here is to establish myself as a midstakes grinder with aspirations to higher stakes. That means playing 60-100 by midyear and going from there. Maybe work up the nerve to try those damn hypers.
:diamond: Get Pokerstars to retrack my account to Pokerstrategy so I can get strategy points. If FTP comes back (as the same site) get them to retrack my account to PS
:diamond: Enjoy life as much as possible. Don't miss travel opportunities.
:diamond: Keep studying IT, so I can apply to be a PokerStrategy.com's IT guy :f_biggrin:

Eh, I hope I’m not too late to post. My main goal is to beat some form of poker at the .5/1 level. I’ve been close to this before, but have always failed due to lack of time, effort, or mindset issues. To accomplish this:

(1) Structure study habits: Work on one theoretical concept at a time, and practice it at the tables.
(2) Time management: Do poker stuff instead of browsing 2p2, reddit, youtube, since I don’t have a huge amount of spare time.
(3) Go through all the mindset resources again and try to be self-critical.

My goal is to cover all my living expenses only with the money I'll get from poker. I am moving next week so the more I grind the more money I can spend on new furniture and decorations! I also hope to participate in some live events next year, and cash big :f_biggrin:

I have a nasty history of running bad, so I put my thumbs up that it will change next year. Also it would be nice to be the best woman poker player in Finland, I promise to do my best :f_wink:

Hi everyone,

My name is Dragos and today being the last day of the year, I think it's the perfect time to set some goals for 2012. I consider myself a decent player and I am mostly a tournament player, but I've only played low stakes and small tournaments so far (except for the occasional big ones where I completely disregarded any bankroll management).

I think a large number of the PokerStrategy community members are in the same spot: playing quite small, and risking most of their bankroll in tournaments they can't really afford hoping for the big score. So if you're in this spot, what kind of goals can you actually set? Should you aim outrageously high, hoping to make the final table of the WSOP main event? Or should you aim low and try to become a winning player at your level and slowly move up in stakes? For me, it's a combination of both big and small goals.

My main goal for 2012 is to win a tournament, no matter which tournament. I've finished second in a few tournaments so far and final tabled some others but I never won. And I never won because I played scared at the final table, I was just trying to get some extra money and folded a lot more than I should have. So the next time I'll get there I won't play scared anymore. So my main goal for 2012: WIN A TOURNAMENT

My secondary goal is to play more cash PLO. I seem to enjoy it much more and I'm quite good at it, but I never took it seriously. That's why I wanna become a winning Omaha player. I don't play a lot of cash, but the one that I will play in 2012 will be Omaha and I WILL be good at it.

So how about the outrageously high goal? Play in a live Main Event. Simple, apparently, but so difficult in reality. How many of us playing at low stakes haven't thought about it? But how difficult it actually is to pass all those levels of qualifiers where only one or two people win! It seems impossible, but you have to dream big sometimes, right?

That's it for me, I hope I'll accomplish my goals and I hope you guys do as well. Happy new year and have a great 2012! Cheers

Hi everyone,

As some of you that may have read my blog already know I quit my job more than a month ago and I'm currently trying to make it as a poker player. So, my ultimate goal for 2012 is to be able to make a decent living out of playing poker exclusively. I am willing to do everything in my power to make that happen and among my targets are:

:club: Play as many HUSNGs as possible every single week of the year, except for when I take some short vacations.
:club:Study as much as I can: read as many strategy/psychology books that I can, watch all the videos available on PS, get accounts on other HUSNG sites.
:club:Take care of my health and trying to enjoy life to the max.

Happy New Year!
Stefan

Ok, let's do this. 1st of all, thanks pokerstrategy for giving me the opportunity, the idea to write down my goals for 2012.

I. Find poker a clearly defined place in my life
:spade: Treat it like a job. Put in the hours regardless of how I feel. The boss at my job would not tolerate me missing work, just cause "I don't feel like it"
** Consistency. Consistency. Play every day. Every week. Every Month. (biggest leak atm)
** Remind myself that this is a more pleasurable replacement of a 9 to 5 job.
:spade: Balance Poker / Socializing / Exercising / Other business project / School.

II. Dreams

:diamond: Sustain myself through the money I make in poker
:diamond: Afford being able to rent my own room at Uni. This SO HUGE for me, I really feel the need for being alone from time to time while at uni, intimacy is a big thing for me. I really hate the current situation.
:diamond: Summer - afford a trip w/ my beautiful girlfriend, rewarding her for believing in me all this time. Through this, also getting revenge on her hater friends for constantly dissing me, saying I'm no good, just because I don't get a job of doom like every other zombie out there.
:diamond:Also for the summer I already want to be on my road to being carefree, enjoying free time with my younger brother, chillin, playin' the gamez, spending quality brother time

III. Game
:club: Keep studying, ploughing through the material to find the real jewels that will boost my game.
:club: Keep analysing spots I get in, review hands
:club: Keep the Study > Play > Review cycle going
:club: Always remember why I'm playing, before each session
:club: Get to at least 50BI BRM in SnG's, acquiring peace of mind
:club: Playing non-result oriented, focusing on +$EV play, only rarely looking at the cashier.
:club: Dedicate at least 4hours / day to poker (like having a part time job)

Summarising
:heart:become independent from my parents -->make an income at least comparable to a regular job from poker
:heart:Be able to have my own space, sanctuary, for a better mindspace
:heart:Become an overall better person, keep working on the different aspects of my life
:heart:Maintain a healthy balance in my life

Those are my main goals concerning poker / my life.

Thank you and may we all have a wonderful year!
Daniel

Of course, I'd love to qualify for, and win a live event.

However! Since I only started playing last month, I think I'll have to leave that goal for 2013.

For now I want to learn all that I can about the game, and progress up to a point where I can hold my own in decent stakes.

I'll break down my goals one month at a time.

First on my list: Achieve gold status.

And of course the ever-present goal...keep enjoying the game.

and maybe starting off the year winning an Ipad?

Hello
In 2012 I intend to be a more active member in the forums.I have just reached Gold status for the first time and intend to push on to platinum. A few days ago I finally took up the offer of free $50 with Party Poker. I will be playing on Party at least 3 days/week on average throughout 2012. I will also be getting involved with the live coaching asking questions instead of just simply observing.
I will also be entering live tournaments. I have had some success already but my bankroll does not yet stretch to regular buy-ins of £75+
I will be entering more satellites.
With regards to tilt I handle it well but every improvement here is vital to success.
Obviously one of my goals is to move up in stakes online and bankroll (lack of bankroll) management has not been one of my strong points so far.
The more I listen to the coaches the more i will learn

Greetings to the PS community. I would like to first thank you for the promotion and the site you run because it is one of the best I have ever frequented.

I guess before I post my goals I should talk a bit about myself so people can put things into context. I am 25 years old and have been playing poker on and off for about 4 years. Poker has been a hobby for me during that time and I've put little effort into it truth be told preferring to play with friends or in micro cash games & tourneys.

Back in September I started doing the NL beginners coaching course at Pokerstrategy as I wanted to make something of poker but life promptly intervened (as it seems to always do at the most inopportune time _biggrin: ).

I could not continue the course because I have been sick in and out of the hospital for 5 months. The brief period of times I was out I was too tired to do much of anything. Now I say this not as an excuse, or to complain because I feel sorry for myself nor am I looking for pity in any way. I mention it because during that time I had lots of time to sit and think. I thought mostly about my life but I gave a lot of thought to poker and how it fit into it.

I realized that I do really enjoy poker and want it as a part my life for as long as I live. I had toyed with quitting poker altogether before I got sick as I was frustrated with my game and my mediocre results but that would be the wrong decision. Poker is probably one of the fairest games you will encounter in your life. Cards have no prejudice, memory or preference. Everyone at a poker table starts out as an equal. Given enough time skill will prevail. To be allowed to compete on such a level playing field a privilege not to be taken lightly.

I discovered though that even if I liked the game when I do spend time on it it is in the wrong way. I spent too much time on the trivial things, grudge matches, spending time reading gossip on forums, or about the financial/sexual exploits of successful players via blogs. These things do not matter to me or my game so why should I include them in it? Instead I should be focusing on what I really enjoy about poker - the game itself.

So 2012 will be the year of the Cliche for me. It will be the year of taking poker seriously. So what does that entail?

2012 Poker Targets

1) Start back up and finish the PS beginners course
2) Move through the microstakes from 2NL-100NL beating the game starting with $150 bankroll
3) Derive a regular income from 100NL so that I can live
4) Have at least a $5000 bankroll for 100NL

Now I'm sure there are some that might roll their eyes at the lofty ambitions but I honestly think they are within my grasp. The opportunity to be successful is promised to everyone. All we have to do is go after it.

Unfortunately I will not be able to start the year off on a positive note as I am saddened going into 2012 as my two cats that I've had for 11 years passed away. They were great friends, very important to me and touched my life in a way that only animals that you love can. I am still committed to my goals however and will work at them despite how I feel inside. I hope others who face adversity this year can do the same.

I sincerely wish success to everyone who was brave enough to open up about their aspirations for this year success. I will try my best to achieve what I've set out to do and hope you do too.
