Homework for lesson 1:
Question 1: What is your motivation for playing poker?
I want to be good at something, I need to feel a sense of achievement in life, and poker gives me that. It also can have the opposite effect! But that's for the next question. I can't deny that money is also a factor, it would be nice to have a little something extra (indeed it is on the occasions I've done well). Money is perhaps an important part of my desire to play poker because it's a universal barometer of success.
I suppose if I were to distil it into a single reason, it would be that I want to prove that I'm good at something.
Question 2: What are your weaknesses when playing poker?
I don't really play enough right now, nor do I study. In the past poker became too consuming and it affected my day to day life and relationship. I find it hard to strike that balance.
My biggest difficulty is finding the motivation to study.
I become too emotionally involved, I need to detach myself more. I don't really tilt because of bad beats, but mostly because I make mistakes.
I don't play tight enough in the late position and blinds.
Sometimes I know an action I make is -EV but do it anyway because it worked out once before. In the same vein, rarely, I gamble rather than play well.
Question 3: What does it mean to play tight aggressive?
You play only premium hands, according to position. This works out that you should actually play very few hands. You raise and bet high with those hands, and avoid checking and calling.
