I was playing last night when I managed to get set-mined 200bb deep against someone who had 15 minutes before two-outered me after getting 100bb all in on the turn. I'm not reporting this as a whinge - that would be against my rules - but because I decided that I wasn't tilted by this, but that I should stop anyway (after only 600 hands), just in case. This means that I have progressed from 'tilt + carry on playing -> spew' through 'tilt + stop playing' to 'don't tilt + stop playing'. Given the limited number of hours in the day I have for this project, I need to quickly move on to 'don't tilt + don't stop'. I am however glad to report that I said 'No' to beer last night, much to mrsjb's astonishment.

Xmas CD no. 3
------------------

This is The Octopus by Amplifier. Amazon recommended it to me, probably because I like Opeth and Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree. It says on the box that it is 'the grand benchmark against which all British prog rock albums will be judged', which manages to be simultaneously grandiose and amusingly parochial. What can I say? It's kind of OKish. It's not as heavy as Opeth, has fewer notes than Dream Theater and it's not as musical as PT. If it was 1981 I'd probably be thinking it was the most complex, heavy, extended, fantastic thing I've ever heard, but music has moved on a lot since then. I expect it will grow on me as I listen to it some more (you certainly get lots of music for your money with this one as it's two full CDs of prog nonsense).

This is track quite good. I like the drums and it has a bit of a Lenny Kravitz feel to it in the middle. But, inevitably, it rather outstays its welcome.

Well, £££££ actually. I get money for refereeing grant proposals, which I can spend on work-related stuff. New laptop required to replace failing 3.5 year old laptop, which I use for teaching. Not poker. No, no, no. No way. Not me.

I picture you as a Walter White, straight laced into ---> midlife crisis, cooking crystal meth, stash of cash behind the vents in your office at work, plan to use poker as a cover for ill gotten gains.

Nice cover story though, grants eh...

Hi JB,

I accidently found your thread about ICM some days ago.
I have to admit that I am pretty impressed of your work and I even tried to download your Matlab code but I wasnt able to download it.
It would be great if you could add me in skype: -.

You'll probably dont know me because actually nobody is reading the articles I've written for pokerstragy.de about Bubbelfactors or Advanced ICM.
This is even true for the german community, too.:)

And please keep up this amazing blog!

Cheers,

Bobbs

The University gives me a choice between a Samsung 300 E, a Samsung 300 E, or if they aren't acceptable, a Samsung 300 E. After due consideration, I decided to go with the Samsung 300 E, but it was a close call.

I will consider those models, too.

Back in the days when I didn't ache when I woke up, myself and a good buddy used to play a lot of chess. After a few of the usual excesses of the time, we decided it would be a good idea to combine a game of chess with our favourite video game - frogger.

At about five in the morning, we took our magnetic chess board down to the A12 and played a game of chess/frogger. The rules were simple. Sit in one lane playing until a car was approaching and then hop to another lane and carry on the game. We crossed the dual carriageway many times and were heading for an interesting end game when the police showed up and arrested me. Not him! Just me. He was allowed to walk away.

Never could understand that, but must have been ...

Spoiler

... because I was black
