I agree wholeheartedly. Unprofessional is a word that sums it up nicely. Not much more to be said about it to be honest.

I don't care what she does or says on Twitter. She is free to do whatever she wants on her own. I don't care if others talk about her on Twitter or on the forums. Hell - more power to her if that's how she markets herself.

The point that I'm making is that major poker sites (and PS.com is #1) have a greater responsibility in steering the direction of the discourse in a direction that's good for the long term of the game.

If you have ever met Melanie you would realise she doesn't take herself seriously.

I read in a 2p2 thread she agreed with somebody who called herself a "lucky whore" laughing it off and she even tweeted the link of the said picture to her twitter.

It's all good fun imo.

So let's make the headline "lucky whore with big rack is chip leader in tournament." All in good fun IMO.

Girls in poker get sponsorships, presenter work, promotion work etc etc because of their image, if you have ever been on their site they all have a gallery section. Liv posing semi naked on the toilet, Tatiana (definitely spelt wrong) posing with small t-shirt on, Melanie posing in seductive ways for Full Tilt commercials etc.

If anything PokerStrategy are doing these girls a favour, promoting their image and putting them in the media spotlight for future sponsorship opportunities.

I'm not sure why posting a picture with a fun headline would cause offence to anybody it would cause offence to anybody.

I think the editorial team do a great job and there is some absolutely fantastic articles which are very serious and have a great point. Dominik has a fantastic blog and Barry Carter is doing some absolutely amazing pieces, however if we want to have a news that caters to everybody BASIC to BLACK members then having fun captions and pictures like this is essential.

If you do have a problem with the article then the best thing to do is comment on it in the comments section on the right hand side of the article as I'm almost certain that editorial won't be reading your blog and will be able to respond/give their side of the story.

oh edit:

I am a journalist (well graduated) and my tutor would probably have agreed with you and give me a 2:1, she never liked my captions _evil:

I'm all for promotions. There is a time and place for everything and the focus of that article should be about how she is good at poker, not that she has a big rack. The way it was done marginalizes her skill and accomplishment.

It's just ... well ... tacky.

Here is a preview of the first five pages of Chapter 5 of Building a Bankroll in which I talk about opening hands and ranges:

In general, I think you are too tight from early position. In late position (CO/BTN/SB), I don't think you should have a static opening range, but rather one that's based on who is where. Thus, your CO range will change quite a bit if the BTN is playing LAG vs. loose-passive vs. nitty.

Just looked through a bunch of micro stakes hands where hero opens the BTN, gets 3-bet, and calls. Here is how I imagine most of the hands went down:

1. Hero opens some sort of marginal hand on the button (say, 9Ts) and gets 3-bet by a villain on whom hero has limited reads.

Villain thinks: "Kings are a strong hand - I should re-raise."
Hero thinks "They're trying to push me around. I'm going to call in position and pwn them."

2. The flop comes something like 95Qr. Villain bets and hero calls.

Villain thinks: "Sweet! No ace. Gonna bet and hope he doesn't hit an ace on the turn."
Hero thinks: "He's going to be c-betting his whole range here. I've got a pair and backdoor draws. Better call."

3. The turn is a blank but puts out another heart. Villain bets and hero calls.

Villain thinks: "Sweet! No ace. Gonna bet and hope he doesn't hit an ace on the river."
Hero thinks: "Looks like he was repping the queen and now with a blank coming, he probably puts me on a weak hand and thus wants to seem really strong since it looks like my hand is face up and I am looking to get to showdown. Because he thinks that's what I'll think, he is going to be double-barreling his whole range here. Calling the flop and then folding the turn would make my overall game very exploitable and villains would just walk all over me. Also, he could still be double-barreling the backdoor flush draw. I'm in position and still likely ahead of his range."

4. River completes the backdoor flush draw. Villain shoves.

Villain thinks: "Phew. No ace! All-in!"
Hero think: "His range is completely polarized the either backdoor hearts or air. Our hand is face up and villain clearly thinks I am weak so he's trying to push me off our hand. Also, with less than 1/2 pot sized bet left, I feel pot committed. I'm getting great odds to call and since his range is polarized, I think I'm good enough often enough here to make a +EV call."

5. Showdown.

Villain thinks: "Cool!"
Hero thinks: "Ran into the top of his range. Cooler."

omg verneer I feel you're description of both villain and especially hero's thoughts during the hand are sooo on point, I lolled a lot.
So the call with T9s IP would be wrong? Or not being able to let go of the hand postflop?

That's great Verneer.

Funny and a perfect example of attribution theory, which is so common at the tables.

Hello verneer! You have made a great blog m8!! _thumbsup: . May I ask .. the link you posted on Chapter 5 is it for SH too or only FR?

Also I wanted to ask.. Currently I m playing NL2 SH on Stars after I lost my bankroll in FT. So this time I started with 8 $ and now I have a bit more than 100$. It was a looong road building it from scratch but I made it . So now for the first time I ll start taking shots in NL5 which I hope I ll past fast enough since everyone says that it is the same with NL2. My goal is to reach NL25 by June. Usually I play 5 - 6 tables and I am thinking to start with 4 tables NL2 and 1 NL5 then 3 tables NL2 and 2 NL5 until I feel much more confident with the new limit and start playing exclusively NL5. Do you think this is a good approach? And do you have any further advice during the transition phase? Thank you very much for your time. I ll keep following your blog :)

Hey. I've been following this blog for quite a while now but I haven't really posted anything yet (I'm not sure why). I'm a micro stakes player with not a lot of time on his hands at the minute, mainly because of college work.

Whenever I play online I'm always browsing the internet at the same time, watching TV or doing something which completely takes my mind off of the game. I'm still progressively making money but I don't think that I'm doing it to the best of my ability (obviously). Now, I don't think that I'm a terrible player although the way I think isn't how I should be thinking. What I have quoted is about as deep as I go and even that's terrible (because the majority of the time I'll be wrong).

Earlier on, I watched a thirty minute hand review session on [Edited by fruktpuff] (a site I've never heard of before). The guy who was analysing the hands really started to make me realise how in depth I could/should be thinking, and it made me realise that if I really do want to improve then I need to give myself a swift kick up the backside and get on with it. Like I previously said, it's hard at the minute to play as much as I'd like to due to a lot of college work needing to be done. I still play live every Tuesday with a few friends and I cash there 90% of the time, which leads me to believe that when given time and my full attention I can be a semi-decent player, although it could be because they aren't very good.

TL;DR - Following the blog for a while but never posted. I'm always doing other things whilst playing online poker, such as browsing the internet, etc. I don't think I'm a bad player but I'm definitely not brilliant as I don't think in depth, although I seem to perform better live.

Actually, i think Verneer was sarcastic.

I understood that. If you read the full version and saw where I wrote "What I have quoted is about as deep as I go and even that's terrible (because the majority of the time I'll be wrong)" you can see I agreed.

Hello ytsoP,

For what I believe are rather obvious reasons, I've had to remove the link in your post.

Clearly we cannot let you link to videos by competitor sites who are also affiliates.

Hope you understand this.

Regards,
Richard

Opening hand charts work for both. The book is a Full Ring book but most of the info works for SH as well.

In terms of transition, I would just look to play 2-3 tables of 5NL when you move up and really focus on developing reads and picking the right tables to play at. I wouldn't want to have some other tables distracting me at the same time.

first of all: how did you know i am a fish-calling station?? LOL!!
Great example you describe, I wonder afterwards how I kept convincing myself to call :f_biggrin:

about the chapter5, I've summarized it like this:
UTG & UTG+1
55+, ATs+, AQo+, KJs+, KQo, JTs+

MP1 & MP2
22+, ATs+, AJo+, KJs+, KQo, JTs+

Hijack (MP3)
22+, ATs+, AJo+, KTs+, KJo+, QTs+, 87s+

few things I noticed:
1) between UTG & MP: you just added 22-44 & AJo...being oop most of the time, is it not to wide?
2) A2s-A9s & A2o-A9o are not mentioned...prob of domination? or because postflop, it's harder to play because of the weak kicker?
3) I wonder what your motives are from CO & BTN
