Can someone explain exactly why you can go All In with an opponent and then lose money doing it when you both tie?

Hello!
I'm not completely sure what you are asking but one such case is if you are in BB and oponent is in an earlier position. this means that you and your oponent will split the blinds which "belonged to you" i guess. He will gain a bit as he got out more money than he invested while you will get a bit less and therefore lose some. In a cash game it might be because of rake maybe.

That could be the reason Primzi. I just remember too watching the WSOOP on PokerStars.tv and the player wouldn't call an all in because he would stand to lose money.
And yes the rake is another reason also.
