blackjack has a basic strategy, but its not enough to cut the house's edge, optimal card counting in a real casino will get you about 2% edge over, but impossible online
so play poker ^^

And also get you a lifetime ban at said casino if you get caught 
get caught for what??? the basic strategy is just a set of probabilities) you can have a bigger edge, if you have a photographic memory, but in most of the games decks are shuffled too often.
Never been to a casino, but wondered why don't they just use 2 decks? After dealing out one hand, stick that deck i the shuffling machine, take the pre-shuffled deck out and deal again. No time is wasted and you can't ever have anyone counting cards.
they use 6 decks which are shuffled a couple of times and put one on top of each other. as the cards come out and you play some hands, you can memorise what cards are no longer in the deck to have an edge. depending on the size of the remaining decks(or shoe as they are called), and the memorised cards, you have to vary your bet. bet big when there are lots of face cards left, and bet small or leave when there are few face cards, aces and tens left.. that's about it
and yes, xylere, they have methods of figuring out if you're 'optimal betting', betting based on card counting.. and if they catch you, you get thrown out because they no longer have the edge and they dont like losing money ^^

some do this
yes but it is actually worse:D in multiplayer blackjack.. because its only one 52 cards deck and you can see many cards at the table and vary your bet accordingly
Most casinsos have changed their conditions to such an extent that card-counting has become next to impossible. Online it is in fact impossible - making blackjack a -EV game 
One is definitely better off playing Poker.
If your last name is Ungar, you can try it, it is indeed a game of skill if you count the cards. But since I'm not Rain man, I'm just gonna stick to poker.

Unlike poker, blackjack is played directly against the casino. There are no situations in which blackjack has a positive EV for you - that would mean a negative EV for the casino. And casinos dont gamble with -EV.

blackjack can be +EV but you need the proper sign up deal and there is still a high chance that you can bust out
I have heard that one thing to do is change the bet size. Lets say that the bet is 1 and you win then stay the same level. But if you lose double the bet size. And if you win go back to the first level. Lets say you lose bet sizes 1,2 and 4 but win with 8 you are up with 1 dollar. But chances are that you lose your money before you win and myself never tried that.

thats the big no no for me in BJ
if you start loosing DON'T INCREASE THE BET
if you use this system that you are talking about (the martingale system) after 10-15 loses in a row you will lose your whole bankroll (I've had more than 30 or 40 loses in a row and I haven't played that much), not to mention that all casinos have a bet cap that you will reach very fast even if you have a very solid bankroll specially for this type of system
and even if you do win you win 1$ from the whole thing ♦

this only works if you have an infinite bankroll. So even bill gates would lose if he martingale'd blackjack
As long as Black Jack is played in a regular casino with 6 decks and not much shuffling (ideally the shuffling occurs only after the card shoe has become empty) it is a game that has a past and accordingly a future that can be estimated to some extent. Thus, varying the bet amount when the deck is running hot (a lot of big cards, e.g. 10s and aces left) gives and edge to an adept player. Basic strategy is a mathematically validated ready-to-use guide on how to play any hand you're dealt in accordance to what the dealer has to reduce the Houses edge to around 2%. Once card counting and bet varying is added to the mix, a player can turn the tables and acquire a 2% edge over the House himself. Of course, card counting is not that easy to execute, the gained edge is not that large to be profitable enough on lower limits (thus pro Black Jack players have to play on high stakes) and playing according to what cards you have already seen often gives away a card counter and casions like to ban these players from their BJ tables. I have never actually tried playing BJ myself, but I have read a lot about it on the internet and in books such as "Bu$ting Vegas" and "Bringing Down the House" - I recommend these two, it's a good read for anyone interested in BJ and in high-stakes games in general.
