Bankroll building - moving through the Micros! NL2-NL50

Broke my own rules yesterday of playing distracted and (very)tired. I have been talking with a lot of players who are interested in coaching and I'm absolutely loving it! but as a result my session yesterday was less than optimal. Also got freerolled once where we had like 49.x chance of splitting after getting it in on the flop... backdoor flushed from a rainbow flop. Fun times All good though! Today is a new day, today I'm doing things the way they should be done! Thankfully won $2.50 in the promo to make up for my lack of discipline, thanks Pokerstars!

In regards to coaching, by the looks of it, all 10 sessions will be booked by the end of the day or tomorrow. So I really urge especially all of you NL2 players who maybe couldn't otherwise afford coaching: hurry up and grab one of the remaining sessions!

Am doing my second coaching today and even though I'm still tired (I didn't sleep that well and damn I just miss the sun - god damned winter) I am super looking forward to it. I've always felt poker lacks a bit of social interaction and blogging only partly satisfies my need, but chatting and getting to know players and then doing the coachings is really brightening up my days

Day off.... Or keep workin'? I haven't had a day off since New Years... Parts of the day I am tired and parts of the day I am energetic, so I can't make up my mind!! Since I didn't do the missions yesterday I am tempted to attempt it today.... Think I will put in a couple of sessions. I am going to visit family at the end of the month so it would be nice to have some volume in before then

Challenge tells me.... win a hand with three of a kind to unlock the next part of the challenge... Wth, I keep improving to full houses all the time

Won my $2.5 from the challenge at last! so I'm taking the rest of the evening off, feel I need some regeneration time.

It's time to reward myself a little, so I think I'll buy the shelf on tuesday!

Haha, simply go allin with a Flush draw out there .... they will call & you make better profit.
I also think that players are affected by the daily goals. If it is just a first task of getting a hand with 22, everyone plays tight. If it is to get a Flush or Straight... let's see Flop turn and river with all types of hands...

Filling my "leftover" time with coachings I don't really find a lot of time for the microchallenge atm. My time management is really going to get put to the test but I somehow also really enjoy it, because this is where we find ways to improve. And besides, if I'm gonna run like this session, I probably better stay away from the micros and stick to main games

Noone is immune in this game. Noone can escape the claws of variance. Most of it evens out in the end though.

Some players (a pretty small proportion) are winning players in the long run. Some players (most) are losing players in the long run. We want our stats to tell us which category we fall into (so that we know whether to keep doing the same things, or whether we need to try something different).

Unfortunately, the sample size we need from our results (Net Won USD) is so large that it takes too long for us to know which camp we fall into. This is because, in the short run, luck/variance plays too much of a role - its only when we get into the longer run that we know which type of player we are.

The "$USD (ev adjusted)" statistic manages to remove some (but not all) of the luck/variance from our stats - meaning that we need a far smaller sample before we know which category of player we are. The USD (ev adj) stat is therefore a far better measure of which type of player we are (winning or losing) than the actual profit figure.

Of course - one session still has a huge amount of luck/variance, no matter which type of player you are.

In the long run (for example, over an infinite number of hands), the two stats are the same and there is no difference between them, because there is no luck/variance at all.

I prefer to have sessions where I lose money and have positive ev, than sessions where I win money and have negative ev, because it means that I'm probably doing the right things, and I can keep doing them without concern.

Yeah it's worrisome, isn't it? It's like winning a battlefield but knowing the enemy has assembled a LOTR-size army of orks, wizards and allies to crush you

zyvy: Short answer to your question is yes If things would always run out according to my "equity" I would have indeed been up $4 something. I can't recall exactly but I got in KK in a squeezed pot vs 49 on a T42 or something flop and lost it, also lost a coinflip. It's ofc all very normal, and as runo says, in the long run it will even itself out If the bad players didn't get to win their crap hands every now and then (or in some occasions very often ) then they wouldn't keep playing and it would be much harder for us to make any money at all. So variance is our best and worst friend at the same time
