An underachiever is a person and especially a student who fails to achieve his or her potential or does not do as well as expected. (wiki)
*Edit - About Me video*
Hello and welcome to my new blog, where I will be sharing my journey up the NL Cash stakes, striving to integrate it in a well balanced life of girls, aesthetics, friends and self actualization.
I will share insights which I think will benefit any player who wants to move up in poker and life along with me. It will not consist in boring and mechanical reports like “I am up today, here is the graph”.
The Underachiever Alliance
Proof I am an underachiever
My 2012, taken from my previous blog - I was breakeven, here is the graph
Oh wait, 2013 was even more of a disaster, although ran over EV haha! Here is the graph ![]()

I consider myself an underachiever, a dabbler (hence the title) – I have been preoccupied with poker (feels strange to say ‘playing’, since my volume has been shit – 100k hands/year) for almost 3 years. Haven’t taken it seriously (although intended to do so on numerous occasions) until about 4 months ago. I want to be an example for all the fellow players that struggle for quite some time, unsatisfied with their progress. I want to show that it’s never too late if you really put your mind to it, no matter how many times you have already failed.
I know the inner struggles, the lowered self esteem it brings, when all your life you haven’t been able to take anything to an elite level. I know the doubts, the mind saying “You have failed every time in the past, why should you succeed this time? Why do you deserve to?”
My answer to it is firstly “Fuck you, brain” and secondly “Yeah, I get it, but what other choice do I have but to try and try and try until I succeed? Just give up? And then what? Die?”.
No. I have one shot at life. Might as well go for the best version of it, what’s the worst that can happen, I will die? I will die anyway so there is no point in taking the ‘safe route’.
So yeah, I welcome anyone who identifies with this, who has a hard time staying commited, to stand together on this journey, to support each other and grow.
Other random facts
My name is Daniel, I am 25y old, from Romania, currently living in the capital of Bucharest. My hometown is the same with 0human0 on Stars, aka Liviu Ignat (nosebleeds player and huge inspiration for me). I want to get money, get shredded, get bitches.
My approach to Poker
Crush the game. Powerhouse. Crush everyone: fish and regs, I enjoy the challenge of destroying other competent regs much more than just stacking a clueless fish. I have nothing against people that are only after the fish, just that it wouldn’t give me as much satisfaction.
My Game Now
I am now comfortably playing NL50 SH (~60BI), after running VERY hot for the beginning of this year (started with ~40BI at NL20).
Graph for 2014, NL20-NL50 with a small NL100 shot

My focus is on improvement and volume. I try to play max 6 tables at a time to maximize learning.
Main Vision
Shoot NL200 at the end of this year. I have structured a somewhat conservative plan to get there. Besides volume, my focus will be on game improvement to counter variance and maximize my chances to achieve this goal.
Blogging
I have struggled with the idea to blog or not to blog, since it can take up quite some time (I like to write a lot when I do – as you can see) and I am a little more preoccupied than I should with other people’s opinions. So in spite of being afraid it will be another distraction, I think there are more advantages than disadvantages. I am kind of sorry I didn’t start it a few months ago, from the very bottom of my ‘career’, since I feel I have made quite some untracked progress since then which I feel would have been interesting to record both for me and other players.
About sharing knowledge that can make the games tougher: This is for me and others that are paranoid about this. I feel I have some inner resistance towards this and some content that will follow – “but aren’t the games hard already, won’t my contributing knowledge make it even more harder?”. No. Trying to hoard information is creepy and comes from a scarcity mindset. The people who want to succeed will get the info anyway. Knowledge is not enough. Everyone that wants to succeed still has to work very hard and most players don’t do this.
This post sets the framework for my blog, other detailed stuff will follow. One of my next posts will contain some key advice and overall strategy for the lower stakes players, since this one is already too long.
