Hello everyone,

Welcome to my blog.

Years back I used to play FLHE, which I enjoyed really much. Currently those games are almost non-existent so I decided to give NLHE another shot - why not?

Starting at the very bottom > NL2. My initial BR was approx $20, dropped to approx $12, now back up at approx $24. Currently playing at PokerStars.
Since my BRM is quite aggresive I've decided to take the "insurance" for most of the all-in pots when my hand is not really, really crushing opponent's hand. Also I will for now play 2 regular tables for more focus and better opponent reading. With time I will add 2 more tables.
Back in the times when I played FLHE I felt most comfortable playing 4 tables, so really PokerStars limit is no harm to me.

Since I called this blog A Hands Lounge why not include a couple in an opening post?

Hello,

time for a weekly BR update (I am checking my results only once per week). Currently at approx $38 so up approx $14.
This week I have been working hard on my cbets, following week I will continue to do so. The Grinders Manual comes in handy. I have improved my game significantly recently thanks to this book.

I think I may stop using cash-out feature now. My BR is more or less what it should be in terms of BI's - I'll think about that. Also HM2 is not tracking this feature properly, or not tracking at all. It shows my winnings to be much lower than they really are. But this feature made me "win" more than I would. My strategy was to take the feature if my odds are between 10%-80%. I was only once in a situation when my odds were below 10%, so I did not use the feature and... won the hand :f_love:

When it comes to my poker learning I started to think I could join or form some small group of micro stakes grinders for some discord hand analysis. It has always proved to be an effective way of learning for me. When I was a FLHE grinder I used to do hand reviews, video reviews etc with a friend and it was a great way to learn for me. Wish he played NLHE, but he's not :ayfkm:

Anyway, that's it from me for today.
I hope you had a nice week and wish you GL in your poker endeavours! :f_drink:

Hello,

I hate the river card and not sure if I like the call, but I've seen him bet in similar spots before and I was more curious that I thought I could win a hand here.

Hi,

As you have seen in my previous posts Poker Gods have been with me last week. Currently my BR is $49,05.

I like the cardex challenge on PokerStars as it's fairly easy to unlock and the prize (even small) is always a + to my BR :)

Next week I plan to continue my learning with The Grinders Manual and hope to improove my game even more.

Good luck at the tables! :f_thumbsup:

Hello everyone,

Thank you @mjez1, hopw you will enjoy the blog! :f_drink:

Another week, another update.
I had joined a group of small stake players and we are actively talking about strategies over discord channel. Really something I've been looking for.

For some reason HM2 is showing a loss for me, but I have approx $52 in my cashier. So my real balance has grown up since last week. This is weird, because before I thought it can't track the cash-out feature properly. But I haven't been using it recently.
Well, not gonna dig into this anyway. I am happy that it manages it's main purpose for me - an analysis tool.

Good luck at the tables and see you soon!

Hello,

I am moving forward with my poker learning. Currently working on cbets + value bets. Also today I have created a very handy preflop chart which is more convenient to use than the one I was using before.

As of the BR... I am more or less B/E. BR is a little over $52, but during the week it was down to approx $40. Well, only 6 BI's. I am happy that I managed to stay focused and play the best I could. At one point sure I was about to tilt but a break helped me a lot! (I exercised, had a meal and took a shower and came back to the tables).

This week is going to be very busy for me in my work so not much volume should be done. But I will anyway learn every day.

Good luck at the tables and

Hi,

This week there will be no BR update, I have decided I need to play certain ammount of hands before checking my winnings and this week I did not meet my goal, so maybe next week :f_drink:

Today I had a guy on my table who was shoving pre pretty wide range (88, TT, A9o, 87s - that's what I've seen). Then I've seen him win a flip TT vs his AKo... couple hands later he wan with his TT vs mine AKo. He was on fire on that table :f_ugly:

I am currently reading an interesing book - The power of habit by Charles Duhigg. I believe it could help with some of the mindset leaks that we all have. Definitely worth a reading!

What do you think of this hand?

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (SB): $2 (100 bb)
BB: $0.65 (32.5 bb)
UTG: $4.65 (232.5 bb)
MP: $4.37 (218.5 bb)
CO: $2.26 (113 bb)
BTN: $2 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 7 8
UTG raises to $0.04, 2 folds, BTN calls $0.04, Hero calls $0.03, BB calls $0.02

Flop: ($0.16) 9 6 5 (4 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG checks, BTN checks

Turn: ($0.16) A (4 players)
Hero bets $0.15, BB calls $0.15, UTG calls $0.15, BTN folds

River: ($0.61) Q (3 players)
Hero bets $0.59, BB folds, UTG calls $0.59

On the flop I wanted to play a x/r. As played I can see UTG to be A-heavy that's why I've decided to play pot sized bet. Would you overbet River?

Definitely overbet that river, massive size

But that is the trick -- if you bet too big, they just fold.
Unless they have something -- AQo for example.
Then Hero's bet size can induce a reraise "for value" from villain.
I think that 1-pair hands are folding to an overbet

Uh, today was a very bad day.
I had to quit my session after only 250 hands because I was literaly not thinking at all and just button pressing and hoping for the win. Hope I did not loose too many BI's but it's not the time to check that.

Hope that tomorrow will be a better day!

Approx 250 hands too late.
Before I opened the tables I felt something was wrong.
I did not prepare for the session correctly, I had a meal right before play (makes me loose my focus), and the day overall wasn't a good one.

Well, I next time I will just skip the session and work on strategy.

Hello,

You will still not get my BR update. I wanted to check it, but decided not to as I had some major loosing session tonight and I believe it would have negative impact on my mindset. I felt I was tilting and closed the tables. Don't want to check BR when on tilt :f_drink:

Surely during the week I will post an update.

I am still wroking on "The grinders manual" the concepts are quite complex and I want to understand them very well. This book has helped me alot so far and I believe it will be with me till the end of the year. Love it!

Tomorrow I'll post some hands as I will skip playing and focus on analysis + learning.

Hello,

There's never enough of hand analysis. So here we go.

Hand #1

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 5 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

SB: $0.83 (41.5 bb)
BB: $4.62 (231 bb)
MP: $7.13 (356.5 bb)
Hero (CO): $2 (100 bb)
BTN: $2 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 9 8
MP folds, Hero raises to $0.05, 2 folds, BB calls $0.03

Villain is an unk - tend to be fishy (limping etc)

Flop: ($0.11) J 9 T (2 players)
BB bets $0.06, Hero calls $0.06

Flop getting ~1:3
I hold a bottom pair with a OESD, however my top card draw might be dead. So counting only 4 cards, a 9 could be good too so add 2
So far 6 cards + runner runner FD
6 cards are 24% equity + 3% for FD ~27% equity, while I need 25%
On top of that I am also in position and could steal the pot, or could see the showdown if villain does not bet further streets where I could be ahead.

Turn: ($0.23) 3 (2 players)
BB bets $0.11, Hero calls $0.11

Turn getting 1:3 again
Now I am drawing for SD + FD so getting 6 + 7 outs ~28%

River: ($0.45) 5 (2 players)
BB bets $0.22, Hero folds

Hand #2

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (SB): $3.15 (157.5 bb)
BB: $2.10 (105 bb)
UTG: $0.90 (45 bb)
MP: $4.85 (242.5 bb)
CO: $7.22 (361 bb)
BTN: $2.65 (132.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with J A
UTG folds, MP raises to $0.04, CO calls $0.04, BTN folds, Hero calls $0.03, BB folds

Preflop
Open from MP from a 69/10 player (25 hands only) + a call from 9/6 (also 25 hands). A squeeze here should be much better really. Instead I called.

Flop: ($0.14) 4 8 5 (3 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $0.07, CO folds, Hero calls $0.07

Flop getting 1:4 and got 6 outs + backdoorFD so a 26% + approx 3%, gives 29%. I am OOP but folding seems so weak here with this holding.

Turn: ($0.28) 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $0.14, Hero calls $0.14

On the turn versus his bet I should fold. Not getting proper odds for a call.

River: ($0.56) J (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $0.54, Hero?

I believe I should call this river (because what else could I've been drawing to?), but the sizing is massive and made me wondering.

Hand #3

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

SB: $1.50 (75 bb)
Hero (BB): $2 (100 bb)
UTG: $2.19 (109.5 bb)
MP: $2.31 (115.5 bb)
CO: $0.37 (18.5 bb)
BTN: $6.24 (312 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q Q
UTG raises to $0.05, 4 folds, Hero calls $0.03

Preflop a 3bet should be made vs UTG UNK open. No need to call vs an unk...

Flop: ($0.11) T 3 K (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.08, Hero calls $0.08

Flop getting a 1:2,5 so I need 28,5% equity.
vs a range of QQ+,TT,AQs+,ATs,KTs+,QJs,AsJs,AKo,KQo is should not call (getting 24% equity).

Turn: ($0.27) J (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.26, Hero calls $0.26

Turn getting an OESD so improoving a little. Villain bets pot size so getting 1:2, so need 33%. With my 8 outs, where not all could be live (2 flush draws on the board) I get 17% so a fold should be done.

River: ($0.79) 8 (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.16, Hero calls $0.16

Hand #4

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 4 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (SB): $2 (100 bb)
BB: $0.84 (42 bb)
CO: $1.68 (84 bb)
BTN: $2.28 (114 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q K
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.05, BB calls $0.03

Flop: ($0.10) 3 4 Q (2 players)
Hero bets $0.05, BB raises to $0.16, Hero calls $0.11

Flop getting a raise IP from an unk. I need to pay approx 1:3. Villain is short with only 32bb remaining and after my call the pot is going to be 21bb. He could be raising with worse Qx or a FD or a GS/SD.
vs this range 44-33,Q7s+,KhTh,JhTh,Ah9h,Kh9h,Jh9h,Th9h,Ah8h,Kh8h,Jh8h,Th8h,9h8h,Ah7h,Kh7h,Jh7h,Th7h,9h7h,8h7h,Ah6h,Kh6h,Qh6h,Jh6h,Th6h,8h6h,7h6h,Ah5h,Kh5h,Qh5h,Jh5h,7h5h,6h5h,Ah4h,Kh4h,Qh4h,Ah3h,Kh3h,Qh3h,Ah2h,Kh2h,Qh2h,Q8o+ I get 66% equity. A raise sounds good here

BB showed 4 Q and won $1.02 ($0.49 net)

BB: $2.63 (131.5 bb)
MP: $2.32 (116 bb)
CO: $1.11 (55.5 bb)
Hero (BTN): $2.29 (114.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with 9 T
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.04, SB folds, BB calls $0.02

Flop: ($0.09) 5 4 T (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.05, BB raises to $0.15, Hero calls $0.10

Flop getting a xr vs a cbet. He could do so with a Tx, set but also a FD / OESD
Vs a range: TT,55-44,ATs,76s,32s,KhJh,QhJh,KhTh,QhTh,JhTh,Ah9h,Kh9h,Qh9h,Jh9h,Th9h,Ah8h,Kh8h,Qh8h,Jh8h,Th8h,9h8h,Ah7h,9h7h,8h7h,Ah6h,8h6h,Ah5h,7h5h,Ah4h,Ah3h,Ah2h,ATo,76o,32o
getting 47% equity
I get 1:3 pot odds so decided to call.

Turn: ($0.39) 2 (2 players)
BB bets $0.16, Hero calls $0.16

Turn is not really improving his range (doubt that he played like this with A3). I get 1:3,5 so I need 22% equity.

River: ($0.71) 2 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks

On the river he checks and I can not see a worse hand that would pay my thin value bet.

Hero (SB): $2.16 (108 bb)
BB: $2.06 (103 bb)
UTG: $1.80 (90 bb)
MP: $2.59 (129.5 bb)
CO: $2 (100 bb)
BTN: $2.08 (104 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 8 J
UTG calls $0.02, 2 folds, BTN raises to $0.06, Hero calls $0.05, BB folds, UTG calls $0.04

Preflop a fold here.

Flop: ($0.20) 6 9 7 (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG checks, BTN bets $0.08, Hero calls $0.08, UTG folds

Flop 1:3,5 so I need approx 22% equity.
I have OESD with 8 cards so to turn I get 17%, to river my equity is 31,4%

Turn: ($0.36) 4 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN checks

River: ($0.36) 9 (2 players)
Hero ?

The draws missed, Villain has checked turn so probably is not holding a 9x. If he had a SDV he should bet the turn... I think a bet here could make him fold Q-high, K-high, possibly some A-high.
