      NOW NEW AND IMPROVED!

      Hello,
I call myself Jackalof in this poker journey.
I have created this blog to keep me motivated to stick to the strategies that this site is offering. I am a BSS fan, currently grinding the NL10 limit. Not anymore! I switched to Pot Limit Omaha which provide me more action and excitement.

I update my blog entries at least once a day (except when I'm away), to refresh graphs, illustrate a certain hand/play, state my observations/etc. From time to time I'll state my opinion about non-poker related stuff, like movies, world events etc.

      My goals:

      [X] beat PLO Hi 0.10/0.25
      [ ] beat PLO Hi 0.25/0.50
      [X] beat 0.02/0.04 NL FR
      [ ] beat 0.05/0.10 NL FR - goal suspended :f_p:
[X] be profitable with pocket jacks :)
[X] double my starting capital in first 5 days - FAILED, doubled in 10 days
[X] achieve silver status in 2 weeks - It took 9 days (including 2 days without playing)
[X] achieve gold status till the end of July - Achieved in 10th of June
[X] achieve platinum status till the end of the year - Achieved on 7th of September.
[X] get Pokerstrategy Elephant licence untill the end of July - Acquired in 4th of June
[X] buy something nice for poker money! - bought flat screen 37`` TV :f_p:

Disregard the goals that were set to No Limit Hold'em for now (until I return to it).

I'm usually away on friday afternoons and weekends, so cannot play on the most profitable time (or so i heard) of the week, therefore my goals are so modest :)

Played 9 more DoNs with 1$ and 2.5$ buyin, lost a couple of bucks overall. The problem with those DoNs are that they have 5 mins blind increase, not 10 like in 5$ buyin, so inevitably you have to play some crappy hands in the end.
I will stick to cash games now, will try multitabling 1/2 cents table and see how it goes.
It was hard to find players for DoNs btw, it took lots of time to wait till 10 players register :/

      Current bankroll: 10.28$ :D

[this post was about play in Pacific Poker, don't play there anymore because got a new starting capital in PartyPoker]

I was away for the weekend. When i returned, i found that pokerstrategy has granted me another starting capital! weeee :)
So i got my starting capital on Partypoker. Played a couple of sessions (4 tables of 0.02/0.04 FR NL), won 5$ overall.
I guess i will have to forget Pacific Poker for now, because i must clear that bonus on Partypoker.
Oh, and i played a freeroll on Partypoker, and got two poket jacks in a row (jacks i love :D ). But meh, lost all my chips with those two hands :)
I will try editing my original blog post later, to include my progress with starting capital.

Decided to stick to PartyPoker, so there won't be any updates on PacificPoker, therefore i will edit my original post and only leave out the important info.

I've had a total of 15 pocket jacks since the beginning of this blog, and they produced me an amazing profit of 7 (seven) cents! Pocket jacks are definately a hand you want to get!

You know what they say, there are 3 ways to play them and they are all wrong! :)

Dont worry, they become profitable with time:

Good luck with your blog :)

Today Partypoker have updated their software. The main new feature - it is illegal to have pocket Aces.
I was enjoying my game until got pocket rockets in early position. One guy made a bet, so i decided to raise 5BB. As soon as i clicked 'Raise', the table froze. It unfroze 10-15 seconds later, and showed that i have folded my aces. It wasn't a very pleasant sight, and a good material for the omg-its-rigged type of poker players.

Anyway, i haven't noticed any visual difference after the update. But one pleasant thing was: Partypoker was down for several hours to implement the update, so when they launched it, there were tons of players waiting to throw their money away at the tables. Some tables even had 12 (!) player waiting list, others averaging about 5-7.

I'm experiencing my first big downswing. And it's amazing ;) During this period you just KNOW your pocket Queens or Kings will be cracked by the likes of K7s or KTo, set will always lose to fullhouse or straight or flush.
One of my last hands was pocket rockets, and shortstack before me went all in. "Finally a win for me" - i thought, until it turned out we both had aces :)
The good thing is i don't worry too much about it. No tilt whatsoever. I've read psychology articles, threads in downswing section, and i knew downswing is inevitable. I'm sticking to SHC, reviewing hands, watching hasenbraten's videos and hoping that the downswing will end before my bankroll vanishes :f_biggrin:

The thing i'm worried about is my goal to beat NL4 limit. If i understand this correctly, i must accumulate 250$ to move to NL10? Oh man, it will take months to achieve this.

      Hi Jackalof,

Hehe it sucks when you have aces n get it all in, then see they have AA too! Hey, at least you didn't lose to a flush ;) I Know how it feels when you think that every premium hand you play is gonna lose, taking a break is best at that point. I'm glad you aren't tilting tho! Good luck with makin those jacks profitable, they should be in the long run as long as you fold them when a couple of over cards turn up.

Grinding your way through the microstakes can be tedious but I'm sure you'll get there in the end! Wish you the best of luck.

      Regards,
      Sarah

      Hi Sarah,

thank you for your support. Since i wasn't tilting, decided to continue playing. And it turned out to be a good choice (see graph on top) :)
Regarding pocket jacks: already learned to fold them with overcards on the board, when opponents show strength. I mostly lose with them on dry boards, when villain slowplays pocket Queens or higher.

Time to study some articles and watch some videos!

      My elephant has died today,
"You have to feed him everyday", the doctors say,
But where the hell can I get peanuts in May???

I skinned the elephant and ate his meat,
Made two chairs out of his feet
And a lucky charm to protect myself from a bad beat.

As I was drinking a second bottle of rum
A genie appeared in the room
All covered in....actually he was wearing just a hat.

      "Your elephant resurrect I can
Collect strategy points you shall, man!"
He clearly was a Star Wars fan...

The genie flew away and promised to come back
It won't be soon because four hundred strategy points I lack
To resurrect that god damn elephant's ass...

So here I am sitting on my chair
Making a napkin out of dead elephant's hair
Hoping that rotting smell does not reach my neighbour's lair...
