Hi

This is a hand from a 5,5$ regular MTT in pokerstars.

We are already deep ITM, 133 players left of 5185.

I get a A7s on the SB on an unopened pot, have been card dead on the last 2 rounds so have not been active.

Image of the oponent is of a solid player, havent seen him doing any crazy stuff.

Here is the hand:

Known Players:
[tg]Position_Stack: hands/vp$ip/RaisePreflop/AF/WTS/ORL/BBvsSteal/W$SD;Hero_78776:///////;BB_97511:///////;[/tg]
2000/4000 No-Limit Hold'em, Ante 400 (8 Players)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A :diamond:, 7 :diamond:
6 fold,
Hero raises 5200 to 9200, BB calls

Flop: (21600) A :club:, T , 5 :club: (2 Players)
Hero bets 12000, BB calls

Turn: (45600) 4 :diamond: (2 Players)
Hero checks,
BB bets 32000,
Hero ???

After I hit the top pair decided to place the usual c-bet, but as i got called i wanted to play for pot control (if that is possible, atending to our stacks in relation to the pot???).

On the turn after i check the oponent either assumes i was blufing or he has something decent also and wants to put me into the decision of comiting to the hand or leave it.

If i give the hand up, i will be playing push or fold with around 14BB left in my stack, if i shove there are many aces that can beat me.

Thank you for your opinions and coments.

call-flop/bet turn is usual play in any circumstance, especially since, as you mentioned, you made a standard C-bet and then checked. What about your image at the table, how did you blind-steal / cbet?

I would personally fold, after his move, as you can probably only really beat a bluff and have 3 outs, if you are behind but not drawing dead.

Calling make very little sense, unless you put him on a gut-shot or a flush draw, but its not very usual for him not to take the free card in this spot. A str8 or another :club: coming on the river will make your out-of-position actions even more dubious.

Issue with pushing is also quite obvious - fold equity is quite small, so he will probably only put down a pure bluff or something like K10.

From coulda-woulda perspective - you should've raised more on the flop, to gain more info. with 12k bet you gave him 1:3 to call, making a flush or OESD call very profitable, considering implied odds of him improving.

Alternatively, a check-call on the flop could work, as it would probably disguise your ace and give you a chance to check-raise or push on turn.

Pushing on flop could also work and he might fold weaker aces.

I assume my image at the table is neutral or tight. I had reached the table around 20 hands ago and this was the first hand I was playing there.

as played shoving turn to his raise , dont think he has a A anyway , maybe a flush draw or ten

don't really like the turn shove. If he has some kind of a draw or turns his midpairs like tx or pps into a bluff we should let him do that.
So call the turn and see what he does on the river.
I really would like to play the hand that way against an agressive opponent. He would call the flop to make a float on the turn when you check. And this is exactly that kind of situation.
So as you played your hand i don't like folding the turn.

what do you think?

Hero started the hand with 78766, as of turn he has 57166. Calling 32k on turn leaves him with 25k, e.g. m4, which basically forces him to push during the next round, if river goes check-check and he loses...

what do we do, if we improve on river? what do we do if we don't?

If I recall correctly, then you get about 4x money if going out on 133rd, right? the more juicy 10x+ starts with around 50-60 left, which is probably another hour or hour and a half of play away. anyone up for figuring EV on folding the turn? :f_grin:

Yes, I think that is a crucial point here, our stack is very shalow.

If we fold the turn we still have 14BB, if we call the turn and loose or fold the river we are left with only 6BB, and will be shoving very soon with hands even worse than the one we have now.
So it seems to me that if we call the turn we are already pot comited and maybe beter shove directly. Therefore I think we have to decide between shoving (and risk being way ahead or way behind) or keeping our 14BB and wait for another spot.

Prize money table goes more or less like dubadal said.

when you check the turn 4 bluffinduce you def. need to check the river too to induce shove from him!

I checked the turn looking specialy for pot control as my stack is small. His bet for 60% of my stack, puts me on a tough decision though.

I'm prob never folding here. As played I'm check calling turn and river. I think he has about 80% of hands that you beat there and your play looks like a steal so he might float you with anything. And when you check the turn it looks like you give up so he might bluff with all his calling range that did not hit the flop.
However with your stack and you hand I would prefer to check the flop for pot control and bluff induce at the same time.
Also I think if you have been very tight it is better to just limp A7s in the blinds battle. This is because like this you keep the pot small and it is much easier for you to fold if he puts a move on you and you have nothing.
