Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $4(BB) Replayer
SB ($833)
BB ($398)
UTG ($368)
Hero ($526)
CO ($194)
BTN ($1,504)

Dealt to Hero Q♠ A♥

UTG calls $4, Hero raises to $18, fold, BTN calls $18, fold, fold, UTG calls $14

FLOP ($60) 7♥ 4♠ K♦

UTG checks, Hero bets $40, BTN raises to $96

Spoiler

UTG is a 54/2 Fish. BU is not repping anything at all with his raise. We did not have any history.
How do we defend vs. this kinda play. Do we tend to 3bet oop and rather call IP? What do we do with hands like 88-QQ?

I think the answer to this Q is same as to question: "How would we play our nuts here vs this kinda play."

I guess we have to call with our nut hands and let the guy barrel as he isn't repping anything, but I don't think we can do this with AQ as he could be turning lots of things into bluffs.

being balanced in this spot is nonsense unless u have a superbig dynamic and play the opp very very often.

saying u have to play ur hand as u would play ur nuts, thats just not a good logic here, it's totally unneccesary, coz if he has JTo he just cannot call ur shove anyway.. but:

the question is of dynamic obv and how good is he adjusting. Did he raise u before many times already and expects u to be full of it by now? .. Then prolly just fold: this is not a good board for him to be bluffraising (unless u barell a totally inappropriate % of F cbets. and he can be valueraising here to just level u into steaming w any KQ and better and could have easily slp AK, KK+ pre as he wants to invite fish into the pot and play ip.

If he is just a random maniac tho, prolly just shove. Yea, he is rapping too narrow, and he just cannot call anything. Also: bad maniacs have the tendeny to be superunabalnced on this sort of boards when they just r bluffs and call strong, so u re rly not getting called much at all.

calling is worst, as u re allowing a good plr to lvrg bluff u for cheap in a big pot on T and u re alw lost.

hi farbenstaedter

+1

He can do this minraise w/ weak SDV to go to cheap showdown, with the nuts (see: aggresssion- we don't know anything about his aggression??), with a bluff). I don't expect him to have KK all too often, but even AK may be possible (and both sets).

My default would be F 34$ bet . Still, I dislike this play as he is often not folding 55-JJ/QQ there.

What do you think about check/folding vs this guy?

Cheers,
Michal
