The king is an EXCELLENT card for our hand. If we hit an ace on the flop we have the 25 for low and top pair top kicker for high. Having 2 wheel cards plus an ace, and a king for high is a strong hand.

At higher limits I would have limped to get worse hands to play, but if they are going to call anyway then raising preflop is fine as well.

Flop isn't that great for us. No backdoor draws for high and a nut low draw with a little protection. Against passive opponents I don't mind checking this flop, however for the record if the flop was K73 I would be smashing it super hard.

In omaha/8 you want opponents who pay you off when you bet, so try and keep the hands multiway in passive games. The skill to the game is knowing when you have hit or missed the flop and acting accordingly.

Bit of a LDO question, but to confirm the thought process: we should be valuing top pair top kicker much more highly than in PLO, as long as we've got a strong low draw to go along with it?

Of course. The thing about Omaha/8 is you have to think about what opponents stack off with compared to Omaha.

Let's say the flop is 3 :heart:6 :heart:K

Now obviously the nuts here is A :heart:2 :heart:, you're going to be favourite against top set with this and it's impossible to be an underdog, you're always going to be roughly flipping at worse). However there are other hands people also stack off here, like A45x or A :heart:K Q :club:5 . Top pair + nut low draw does pretty well here. Someone with a nut flush draw only has 4 outs to scoop (if a low hits, you win half!) where as you can scoop if the turn and river blanks for him.

Low pairs are horrible in omaha/8 because you hit a set and win half, so I dont expect 33 or 66 to show up much here, KK can but we have a blocker plus 30% equity from the low draw anyway. AK25 on a board of K63 is ridiculously strong, even without the flush draw. We have a gutshot to hit the nuts+straight, plus an ace hitting gives us top 2 pair and 2nd nut low (potentially scooping against someone with A :heart:2 :heart:). King hitting is also amazing and if a deuce hits we only get scooped by A45x (we still win half against A4 due to our 2 pair for high).

But in PLO, people will shove a set, maybe 457x and a nut flush draw. Nobody will call with worse if you shove TPTK, but in Omaha/8 they absolutely will.
