So these games are very cheap to buy into obviously, but can they actually be played profitably? I mean, you're basically going through one huge push-or-fold phase (except the first blind level maybe). So basically, isn't variance insanely high in these tournaments?

There is no rake, so if you're willing to spend time playing them you will eventually come out a winner if you have an edge, but obviously in any 990 player tournament there will be huge variance.
well it sounds like you could play a lot of tables due to the less complicated decision making needed
No need to play them unless you really try to learn something. Otherwise it's not worth it to play for profit. It's 990 hyper turbo MTT. Variance is killer and there is just no vollume.
Deposit 500$ and play the 1$ 180's :-)
