I've overplayed aces a few times on this session. Some worked, some didn't.

On this specific hand I thought it was somewhat clear he had some KKxx or QQxx type of hand - even though yeah, some players do 3bet rundowns and in that case I'm crushed. But would he call his rundown out of position for a chunky portion of his stack?

What can I do on this flop? Check behind?

You can never fold the flop no matter what hits, so you played it fine, especially with holding a gutshot straight and backdoor flush draw.

I actually won the hand since he had KKJJ.

But still, like said I've lost a couple of hands where I overplayed AAxx in a very exploitable way. I'm still not sure what to do to avoid that...

Just open full pot, 4bet full pot if 3 betted adn shove any flop. You can flat trashy aces and 3bet good ones + some rundowns not to be exploitable.

That's interesting. Why can't I fold the flop no matter what hits?
I invested 25% of my stack and now I have to broke on any flop? Why?

Because there is a significant amount of money in the pot.

You will have the winning hand enough of the time to make it +EV to put the rest of your money into the middle. You only need to have the best hand around 38% of the time for it to be correct, which will always be the case.
