I don't see how you can get away from this - you are pot committed with trips, play it to the hilt.

I put villain on either one of the draws, or holding a strong 8. 8Q/8k/8A. But Check/call followed by Check/raise screams of either poor play, or brilliant slow play. What say?

Fold pre
On flop check back no point in betting here you wont get them of better hand and in this multiway pot worse hands that would call you have a lot of equity.
As played you should call and i expect that you are ahead bigger proportion of time (treys are possible but would most likely raise on flop, 8x combos limited do three out there, and you also beat almost every 8x combo, JJ would raise pre)
There is no hand that slowplaying with would be brilliant in this spot.

Raising it on the flop was a mistake, noted.

Villain was pushing treys in this spot, but I think i was ahead of his range.

Thank you very much.

Yes you'll see occasional pocket 3's but as i stated i don't like his play he should be raising set on flop (for value and protection) in 5-way pot with all sort of draws which are drawing cheaply
