So I am going to try a blog. I'm self-depreciating enough to think this will be very boring, so don't get your hopes up of finding yourself up at 5am glued to my updates, but I am hoping it will help focus me on studying my game and also force some accountability - no wussing out on my goals.
Arbitrary Personal Information
I'm 26, British, in full time employment and in a stable relationship with a wonderful woman who I don't deserve.
My Poker History
Through 2009 and 2010, I played tournaments, mainly 1-2 table sit and go's. I beat $3-16 STT's on stars pretty convincingly, I don't have have my database for that time anymore but Sharkscope shows me as a $6k winner. I also played a little bit of SH 25NL after reading Verneer's "moving up through uNL in 2010" thread, and was a 1BB/100 winner over 25k hands according to poker table ratings.
I moved in with my girlfriend and got my current job mid 2010, and I cashed out my roll to buy luxuries such as basic furniture. Poker very much fell into the background.
And on to 2012...
For some reason poker caught my attention again right at the end of 2011 and I wanted to play again. Unfortunately, I am currently trying to save for a deposit for an apartment, and I live in a place where one bedroom apartments start at $300,000. House (not an apartment) prices start at $600,000. Therefore even a 10% deposit is a big chunk of change, and I just couldn't justify depositing any serious amount of money. Hence the 2012 challenge:
Deposit £100 ($155) on Stars on 1 January 2012, start at 5NL SH and try to climb uNL through 2012
Why SH and not STT's where I have had some previous success? Basically because STT's are easy, compared to cash. A good push-fold game is simple to learn, and makes up most of the game. The harder the game is, the more mistakes people make and the more opportunities there are to profit.
Here are the main sub goals:
- 15,000 hands a month
- Spend two hours week studying
- Work towards 6-8 tabling (currently 4 tabling)
- Stick to good BRM (~25BI for each limit minimum)
- Don't watch TV while playing poker, or do anything else stupid like playing drunk
Seen as how 1/6 of 2012 is gone already I will follow up this wall of text with some giraffes for January, February and Year to date info. Stay tuned.
