It is the first hand of the tournament , I flop hard he checks and I make cont. bet of half pot to induce raise or hands like 7x or hands like 89 to stick in the pot. He re-raises me so I just call to leave weaker hands in the pot. He checks the turn so I think he has a straight draw or a 7x(not likely) or a small pair or even overpair(but overpairs should make a re-raise pre-flop) so basically a open-ender I think , because Tx will be leading for value on the turn , so he checks and I check to let him catch his straight river comes 9 which only improve hand like 68,8J and he shoves the river so I think he has in that moment a made gutshot or a Tx hand so I call and get a bad news. I slow-played with intention to extract the most value from it. How do you think about my line? just got unlucky?

Hi all,

Your line depends on the expectation that your opponent folds a straight draw like an OESD on the turn. I expect most opponents that check/minraise flops (aka recreational players) to never fold these on the turn. If they miss, they will sometimes even donk the river as a bluff. So if we check it behind, we miss an almost guaranteed bet on the turn and possibly another on the river (although sometimes he will bluff his missed draws if the turn goes check/check). So it is a superior line to just bet the turn ourselves to build a pot.
