Got Destroyed at 50NL - Embarrassment

I Literally got my A** handed to me at a 50 NL game at PS today. I lost to a ace high flush when I had trips and dropped another 30 against aces. Needless to say, I wasn't feeling too good dropping $80 in under 7 minutes of play. I'm just going to not play cash games anymore and focus on SNG and MTTs. All I can say is cash games are pretty damn hard and I wish everyone luck at those tables!

I gotta say, it was pretty stupid of me too since I rarely have any experience in cash games... So I am to blame.

Thanks for reading my nagging thread!

stop playing poker....if droping 1.5 Buy-In hurts you have no hope. Just from your post it sounds like you shouldn't even be playing that high to begin with. Start at the bottom and work your way up...

You shouldn't quit poker but you shouldn't be playing NL50 either....

Play NL10 or even better start over from the basics and work up from NL2.

I agree with you in some aspects. I was just trying a "hit and run" sort of scenario. Unfortunately it didn't work out my way. I assure you that I can handle these types of losses as I have experienced them every now and then.

I am just saying that it was a complete embarrassment that I lost that amount in so little time and my "table image" at that table specifically classified me as "fish".

I let my curiosity get the best of me as I wondered what it would be like playing 50NL -- if it was the same as $15-30/18 man tournaments.

Thanks for the post though!

no kidding. look at this prime example of value extraction vs calling station by some random 30/10 guy:

Everest - $0.02 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

CO: $2.53
BTN: $3.33
Hero (SB): $2.64
BB: $0.97
UTG: $0.33

Hero posts SB $0.01, BB posts BB $0.02

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.03) Hero has 3♦ Q♦

fold, CO raises to $0.07, BTN calls $0.07, fold, fold

Flop: ($0.17, 2 players) Q♥ 7♦ 9♦
CO bets $0.17, BTN calls $0.17

Turn: ($0.51, 2 players) 6♠
CO bets $0.51, BTN calls $0.51

River: ($1.53, 2 players) 9♠
CO bets $0.58, BTN calls $0.58

CO shows Q♠ J♣ (Two Pair, Queens and Nines) (Pre 33%, Flop 47%, Turn 66%)
BTN mucks K♦ A♦ (One Pair, Nines) (Pre 67%, Flop 53%, Turn 34%)
CO wins $2.53

i honestly think it's pretty darn good actually

Variance can be unbelievably cruel. I once dropped 2.5 BI in 6 minutes!

P.S. I'm not making this up. True strory!

Why cash games is hard?

Imo, in SNG and MTT players suffer more variance and swings than cashgames. U just lost couple of buyins in couple of hands, its nothing. i was running -25+BI under EV throughout a month. see my graph here

choose limit which fit ur bankroll will help reduce risk of going broke even ur favor =)
