What is the best play here? I think we should bet the turn with the intention of betting almost any river. He looks fishy but 18 hands is almost no samplesize.
What will he check behind?
- 33-JJ
- Qx (but he will often barrel for protection)
- Kx to trap (but not likely)
- A-high hands because they have SD value
When we bet the turn and river he can never call with e.g. 88, perhaps he'll call JJ or TT because they look better and they beat more pocket pairs, but all the other pocket pairs are an obvious fold. If he has A-high it's very likely the A-high is better than ours. (AJ/AT/A9/A8) By betting we also avoid getting bluffed, because we can never call down with A-high.
We could also argument that we won't have lots of strong Kx or Qx hands in our range, but I'm not sure our opponent realises this.
