I was running some test on PokerStove and noticed that:
AKs wins vs T9s (61.281% equity)
T9s wins vs 33 (53.216% equity)
33 wins vs AKs (50.982% equity)
I wasn't aware of that there existed some sort of rock-paper-scissors-situation in poker. How does this work?
It doesn't. Your never playing against 1 specific hand, your always playing against a range of hands so you have to consider how your equity is doing vs his range not against the hand he happens to show up with on that occasion.
By your logic AKo is the worst hand if you run it vs AA and 27 does way better against a range off AA only, AK having 7% while 27s having 16%.
But if you run those 2 hands against his likely stackoff range(TT+,AQ+) you see that 27 has 23% equity while AK has 50% equity.
these specific equity values only really matter when you ship the monies preflop. and when you ship the monies preflop, it's better to think in terms of hand ranges.
AK does much better against a preflop shipping range than T9s or 33.
in any case, in general two overs vs two unders = 60/40, two overs vs smaller pair = 50/50, domination (ie AK vs AQ, KK vs AQ) = 70/30 or something like that
you guys dont get why it is important. At homegame:
1. Take AKo, 9Ts, 22 from a deck
2. Offer someone to pick a hand
3. Pick winning hand over his pick
4. Offer a bet who would win
5. ????
6. Profit
7. Repeat
You can even explain them that its rigged and you are always favorite, they dont believe and still bet.
