Why this overbet on the river? He called flop and turn so he would maybe call a bet on river with top pair or a pair of 9s.

Hi,

Guess this was fine, you had OESD on flop and hit the turn.

I'd just bet that river smaller, max 2/3, probably 1/2. They will fold every weak TP they have in their range and also some weaker midpairs. If the river was like Ace I could try to shove to make them call their A9 kind of holdings.

Considering our draw is so hidden and we hit it on the turn I'd prefer to try to get a check raise in to try and build the pot (it's very small and we have a lot of money to get in). I can see villain betting 1p hands and not folding to raises.

Taking the lead on flop with 8 high is fine because you can still get better hands to fold while still having equity in the pot.

As played the river shove is not bad especially on the blank. Villain may call with Jx and sets/2p.
